Finally Awoken To The Harsh Reality.

Just as Celine had said, a month later, on the fifteenth, she had dressed up in her best and most luxurious attire that Mark had acquired for her and walked into the court room.

She had expected to see Noel in the room when she walked in, however the male was nowhere to be seen.

She approached the judge, haughty greeting him as she stood before him, waiting for her husband, soon to be ex husband, to arrive.

Thirty minutes in and he was yet to arrive. His absence only deepened Celine's anger and frustration towards him.

She mentally berated herself for ever believing that she could spend the rest of her life with someone as useless as him while shaking her head.

How had she been so blind? She couldn't help but feel foolish for ever having faith that Noel would be the one who would inherit the family business and bring fame and luxury to her.

If she had known from the very beginning that Mark was the one who would inherit it, then she would have married him instead of Noel and saved herself all the trouble.

Huffing out in annoyance, Celine asked if she could sign the final papers without Noel being present. The judge looked hesitant, but he too had trouble of his own to take care of, so after hesitating for a moment longer, he granted her request.

Remembering that she had a spa date with some of her friends today and later an audition for yet another movie role, Celine wasted no time in stepping forward and signing the papers.

She felt better than ever as she stepped out of the courtroom now a free woman and soon to be Mark’s new wife.

Her career was steady and she was about to be married to the future heir of Barrette industries, what better life could she have asked for!

Celine thought that as she gently rubbed her stomach, the smile on her lips growing with each passing second, however, it soon faded as she caught sight of Noel who was approaching her, or more specifically, the court room.

He was dressed in a plain white shirt and blue jeans and lastly he wore a pair of brown old timberlands.

Her eyes narrowed with distaste, and she couldn't stop the wave of disgust that washed over her. Once again, she harshly reprimanded herself for having entertained the thought that Noel had simply been testing her.

Someone like him had no future. He was doomed to the slums, she thought and tried to walk away.

However before she could get far away, Noel held onto her wrist, pulling her to a stop.

Celine quickly retaliated with a shriek of disgust. “Ew! What do you think you’re doing?! Get your hands off me!”

She yanked her hand free and quickly stepped back, putting a considerable amount of distance between herself and Noel like he was some kind of disease before reaching into her bag and pulling out a handkerchief which she used to wipe clean where he had touched her and threw it in the nearest dustbin.

People whose attention had been caught by her loud shriek, began to whisper underneath their breaths, making speculation while watching.

Noel stared at the hand he had used to hold onto Circe’s wrist for a while before he raised his eyes to meet hers, she however, flinching when she saw no warmth in his eyes and what stared back at her was a blank canvas.

‘How dare this useless thing be rude to me?!’ She sneered in her mind while glaring harshly at him.

“You…” She opened her mouth and began, but before she could say any more words, Noel cut her off.

“Celine, is this really what you want?” He asked. “Are you sure you’d be able to live your life without regret after taking this step?”

Celine remained silent for a few seconds after listening to his question and then…she suddenly scoffed loudly, drawing the attention of those nearby.

Her light scoff soon turned into chuckled which escalated into laughter. Celine didn’t stop until she had bent over and had her full of laughing, then she stood up and did what she always did when she found something funny.

She wiped away imaginary tears from the corner of her eyes one by one before sighing out loud.

“Oh Noel, I see you still haven’t come to your senses even after a whole month.” She began. “You’re asking me if this is what I want? If I would be able to live my life without regret after doing this? Yes, this is what I want and yes, I would live my life to the fullest because this is what is right for me.” She said and stepped forward, discarding the distance she had once out between them and getting into Noel’s personal space.

Noel didn’t step back. He stood his ground, glancing down at her and watching her every move.

"You're nothing but a useless loser, Noel. Why would I ever regret divorcing you? Huh? No one would ever want to be with someone like you!" Celine's voice dripped with venom as she unleashed her hurtful words upon him. With a malicious glint in her eye, she went on. “You’re so useless and incompetent that you couldn’t even save your own mother when she was dying. When she needed you the most. You should really be ashamed of yourself.”

At this point, the weight of Celine’s words became too much for Noel to bear. His anger and frustration spilled over, and he erupted with scathing remarks of his own.

“That’s enough, Celine! You dare not bring my mother into this!” He scolded harshly. “I simply asked you a question, I did not ask for you to berate and insult me.”

“Oh, is that so? Well forgive me because I’m sure the words that had left your mouth was a direct request for me to do so rather than the useless question you claim to have asked.” Celine said and chuckled.

Noel shook his head, disgust evident on his face. “How did I not see your true colors earlier?” He asked himself. “How could I have been so blind to the point that I missed who you truly were? If I knew you were like this, then I would never have married you, because I would have preferred to remain unmarried rather than get married to a gold digger like you.” He spat.

Celine’s expression completely crumbled. The smile from her lips was now gone as her expression darkened.

She wasn’t taking too lightly to be called a gold digger by Noel. After all, in her mind, she was anything but that.

In her mind, she was a woman who knew how to okay the right cards and do whatever it took to survive while climbing the ladder of society.

“What did you just say?” She asked.

“You’re a gold digger, Celine and I wish I had seen that earlier. You…” Before Noel could finish his words, he was interrupted.

In the midst of his insult, a sudden, sharp slap echoed through the court halls, earning more whispers and gasping from the people who were watching previously two, now three people.

Mark had appeared out of nowhere, witnessing the entire confrontation. He couldn't stand to see Celine being humiliated and degraded any longer. With His face twisted in anger, Mark had raised his hand and delivered a stinging slap to Noel's cheek.

The room was a buzz with whispers as everyone turned to witness this unexpected turn of events.

“I expected better from you, Noel.” Mark said, his hand still lingered in the air.

Noel slowly turned his face to look at his brother, right side of his cheek stinging and red from the slap.

“Do you have no shame? Saying such words to Celine? Was it her fault that you couldn’t provide the necessary for her? Rather than making her feel ashamed of her decision, you should feel ashamed that you became such a failure of a man.”

Mark's words lashed out like a whip, tearing at Noel's already fragile self-esteem, but he kept a neutral expression and watched as Mark turned around and faced Celine.

“Are you done here?” He asked, to which she nodded. “Good then, let’s leave.”

Celine nodded her head and watched as Mark turned around to leave, sparing Noel one last look of disgust before walking off.

She however, didn’t follow after, immediately. Celine felt like she had to get even with Noel for calling her a gold digger. When all the options of what to do were running through her mind, she came up with an idea  and couldn't resist inflicting one last wound before she left.

Stepping forward, she lowered her voice and spoke. “I hope this teaches you a good lesson, Noel. Do us all a favor and just disappear. Mark wouldn’t care, neither would your father and…certainly not the child of your brother who I’m currently carrying.” She chuckled. “I hope we never see each other again, Noel.”

With that, she walked away.

Although Noel already knew this painful reality, the fact that his wife was carrying his brother’s child, the confirmation still cut him deeply.

Left alone in the heartbreaking reality, Noel stared blankly at their retreating figures, his heart heavy with pain.

Just they wait, he was going to return this pain some day! The shame, pain and Humiliation they all have him, he was going to return it in triple folds!

Tearing his gaze away, he slowly made his way into the courtroom, feeling the weight of the divorce procedure that awaited him.

As he completed the necessary paperwork, a mixture of emotions consumed him. The pain of betrayal and the bitterness of rejection swirled within him, but amidst it all, he clung to a glimmer of hope – revenge.

With each pen stroke, Noel resolved to move forward, focusing on  rebuilding his life and getting a satisfying revenge.

When he was done, the judge stamped the papers and his divorce was made official. This only seemed to harden his resolve, after all, there was nothing stopping him now.

As Noel stepped out of the city court, the bright ray of sunlight reflected down on his face. He raised his hand up to block it just as a black Mercedes car pulled up in front of him and a guy dressed in a black suit stepped out.

The man rushed towards him and bowed his head deeply. “Hello Sir, please forgive me if I had kept you waiting. Madam has sent me to pick you up.”

“Is that so?” Noel mused uninterestedly.

“Yes. She says that I should inform you that your flight leaves in two hours and I should have you back by the house on time.” The suited man answered.

He then reached into his suit pocket and pulled out an international passport. “And this, belongs to you.” He respectfully handed Noel the passport.

Noel collected the passport and opened it to see his details…the details of the new life he would now be living, written inside.

He stared at the unfamiliar name for a few seconds before shutting the passport and shoving it into the back of his pocket.

“Let’s go, take me to where Circe is.” Noel demanded.

“Yes Sir!” The suited man responded as he held the door open for Noel to enter before shutting it and rushing over to the driver’s seat quickly.

As the car’s engine came to life and the car began to move, Noel stared at the building outside his window. He watched all the buildings pass by, his eyes particularly lingering on the one building that used to be his home, as he passed it.

He tore his gaze away from the window as he felt his heart ache.

Celine and Mark, he was going to make them both pay. He was going to make them both suffer just like they made him.

He may be leaving for now, but some day he was going to be back and that day would mark that start of their destruction.
