Circe stared at Noel for a few seconds before the corner of her lips twitched and a smile appeared on her lips. She had though he was a gonner, that he had run off, but yet, here he was back at her doorsteps and even chosing to follow the path of revenge she had set out for him.
What an interesting way to start her morning!"I see, you slept on my offer." She mused after a few seconds of silence had passed between the two and then stepped aside, pointing her hand towards the inside of her house.Noel understood her gesture and did not hesitate as he stepped in. His life had already been ruined, what else could go wrong in trusting a stranger.Stepping into her house, he sank down into the nearest chair and peeled off the hoodie from his head, exposing his face completely. Circe took her seat in the chair opposite Noel and studied him for a few seconds before she spoke."Did you go back to beg?" She asked.Noel did not respond immediately as he felt a wave of shame wash over him. She had hit the nail right on the head. How stupid had he been to believe that he could fix everything just by begging and apologizing. He truly was pathetic just like Celine had said.Watching him remain silent, Circe hummed in understanding while nodding her head. "You must feel really humiliated.""You don't say?" He responded sarcastically his gaze dropping to the floor."I see things didn't turn out the way you wanted. Seems like you truly have nothing to lose now, so, let's do it." She suddenly said, her tone was cold and distant as she adjusted to the edge of her seat. "If you really want to take revenge, the first thing you need to do is divorce your wife before she can, you." She said.Noel lowered his gaze and thought it through."I get it," she said, leaning back into her chair and folding her legs. "You don't have any money, do you?""No," Noel responded with a sigh, knowing that his situation was truly bad."Don't worry, you can always use this." She said and placed a credit card on the table.Noel examined the card. It was a black credit card. This made his eyes widen.Holy shit!He looked up from the card on the table towards Celine who simply smiled.Just who was she?!"I'll lend you this for the time being. Use as much as you need to hire the best lawyer and divorce your wife.""What...why...why would you do this?" Noel stammered in surprise. He still couldn't understand why a mere stranger was treating him this way.At his question, Celine's face softened, a smile adorning her lips as she stared at Noel. "Well," she paused and thought for a few seconds before adding. "Let's just say I know how it feels to watch those who you once trusted betray you and have no one in the world to help. I'm not asking that you trust me immediately, but please do know, that I'm always going to be on your side."Circe ended her statement by flashing him an assuring smile. For the first time since learning of his wife and brother's affair, Noel felt his body relax. He knew he shouldn't just believe whatever she says right off the batt, but it couldn't be helped. The sincerity in her eyes and words made it hard to do otherwise.Sighing, he ran his hand through his hair and closed his eyes in deep thought. Why has his life become so complicated? How had everything he worked so hard to build, spiraled down into nothing?!Was he really that much of a failure in life?Thinking that, Celine's words replayed in his head and he squeezed his eyes shut tighter, wanting nothing more than silence in his mind.Sadly that never came as the words of Celine and Mark continued to haunt his mind and after a while, he peeled his eyes open and stared at the black card in front of him.He knew what he needed to do to silence all these voices. He knew what he needed to do to get the pain off his chest."Made your choice yet?" Celine asked with a tilt of her head."Yes, yes I have." Noel answered.** ** ** **A few days later, Celine stepped out of her car, arms laden with shopping bags, feeling the residual excitement from a successful shopping spree. She hummed to a happy tune while daydreaming about her now happy future with Mark. Thinking of how he would spoil and pamper her just like this in the future made butterflies swirl with excitement within the pit of her stomach. And to think that she had almost settled for a broke and useless bum like Noel!Celine reprimanded herself harshly. She had nearly ruined her life and spoiled her chance at living a comfortable life.Thankfully that was all water under the bridge now. She had made the right decision. She was carrying Mark’s child and was about to start a family with him, her life of poverty was no more!Chuckling to herself, Celine continued her way towards her door, however stopping abruptly at the sight of a stranger barring her way.A tall man with graying hair stood before her, clad in a tailored suit. His serious expression did nothing to hide a glimmer of professionalism in his eyes.“Who are you?” She asked, eyeing his fancy suit from head to toe and wondering if he might be one of Mark’s men.The Intruder spoke, his voice measured and professional as he introduced himself. “My name is Pablo Campbell. I’m the attorney handling Mr. Noel Barrette divorce case."Celine’s eyes widened. She scanned the man from head to toe once more, unbelieving that Noel could actually hire such an expensive looking lawyer.Wasn’t he broke?“You must be Celine Hangreve, I presume?” the man began, holding out a stack of papers. “I am here to provide you with the divorce documents.”Celine’s eyes widened more in shock, her fingers tightening around the shopping bags. She had anticipated Noel’s return, perhaps a plea for reconciliation, but receiving divorce papers blindsided her. Emotions battled within her, confusion intermingled with a mixture of anger.Beneath her breath, Celine muttered a string of insults, damning Noel for his cowardice and truly useless nature. He had sent a sham of a lawyer clad on fake branded attire instead of coming to face her himself.‘Tch, truly useless!’ Celine thought as she snatched the papers from Pablo’s hands, her hands trembling as she flipped through them. Each page cemented the finality of their crumbling marriage, depicting a union marred by broken promises and unfulfilled dreams. After a few minutes of reading through the documents , Celine picked out a pen From her purse and scrawled her signature on the dotted line, the ink sealing the fate of their shattered marriage. She showed no remorse nor regret, but rather joy, as she handed the documents back to Pablo. To her, this was liberation like no other. If anything, she’d even have to thank Noel for agreeing to the divorce with ease.‘Now she could live her life the way she wanted it.’ The thought alone brought a bug grin to her lips. The lawyer, observing her strong-willed determination, nodded approvingly. “Thank you, Mrs. Hangreve. The court date is set for the fifteenth of next month. I will see you there.”Celine met his gaze with a burning fire in her eyes, her voice tinged with a mix of overwhelmed joy and relief as she announced. “I’ll be there, ready to begin the next chapter of my life.”Just as Celine had said, a month later, on the fifteenth, she had dressed up in her best and most luxurious attire that Mark had acquired for her and walked into the court room. She had expected to see Noel in the room when she walked in, however the male was nowhere to be seen. She approached the judge, haughty greeting him as she stood before him, waiting for her husband, soon to be ex husband, to arrive. Thirty minutes in and he was yet to arrive. His absence only deepened Celine's anger and frustration towards him.She mentally berated herself for ever believing that she could spend the rest of her life with someone as useless as him while shaking her head. How had she been so blind? She couldn't help but feel foolish for ever having faith that Noel would be the one who would inherit the family business and bring fame and luxury to her.If she had known from the very beginning that Mark was the one who would inherit it, then she would have married him instead of Noel and saved he
~Five Years Later~ On the influential side of New Orleans, precisely on the premises of the city’s most wealthy, affluent and accomplished business property, a meeting mainly for shareholders had been announced and was currently being held. The atmosphere in the meeting room was tense, as the prestigious and powerful shareholders of NX Global gathered to address a matter of utmost importance. A sudden change in ownership had rocked their company, leaving them bewildered and uncertain. Swirling rumors and whispers had filled their ranks, igniting anxiety and curiosity amongst the highly successful aristocrats of New Orleans. The room was adorned with opulence befitting their esteemed positions. The dark mahogany walls exuded a sense of authority, while the plush leather chairs provided comfort to the high-ranking individuals who now found themselves facing an uncertain future. The air stifled with anticipation as each shareholder took their place, eager to discuss and debate the matt
As Circe asked this question, her voice carried a note of familiarity that hinted at a deeper connection between them. Leon’s expression remained unchanged, accepting the use of his true name without any personal attachment. After everything they had been through together for the last five years, only she had that privilege. “Those useless shareholders had quite a lot to say.” Noel- rather Leon, briefly informed her of how the meeting had gone before he fixed his gaze on the tinted windows of his car, watching as the building went by. Circe chuckled at his debriefing as she continued to flip through the pictures on her tablet. “What would you have expected.” She uttered and at last, passed the tablet to Leon. “The venue for the gathering has been booked,” She informed him as he collected the tablet and allowed his eyes roam across the details. From the venue, cuisine to be served and even down to the arrangements, Leon memories everything in a short Span of time before flipping to th
Leon stood in spot, not to far away from where Celine was currently throwing her invalid tantrums, calling out waiters and basically demanding to see their boss, which unknowingly to her was him, the exact same man whom she had betrayed and abandoned five years ago.Just how funny was the universe's constitution, Leon thought, the look in his eyes darkening with each second that he watched on. Now, what was he to do?Obviously two options were set before him. He could step into the lime light and shut Celine up, relishing momentarily in the shocked expression that would taint her face the moment she recognized him, or, he could carefully handle this situation without revealing himself and wait till the grand ball which was less than a month away, ensued, then relishing in the feeling of watching both she and his traitor of a brother as they realized that not only was he back, but he was now the wealthiest man in all of New Orleans.Ah, what tempting offers, both equally wetting his des
Leon returned home immediately after his visit to his restaurant. Throughout the drive back home, his head felt clogged with the image of Celine. Even after five years, she still looked as beautiful as she previously did. And she didn't change. She still remained as innocent and as evil as she always was. Many may wonder, how can someone be innocent and Evil at the same time. Well an example was Celine Barrette. She looked innocent on the outside, holding the demure of a gentle fairy who could barely hurt a fly and was most likely to spend her weekends in an orphanage doing charity rather than spending it with friends, when in reality, she was the complete opposite of that.A backstabbing low life who was ready at anytime to manipulate a man's heart all so she could get whatever she wanted.Leon slightly grimaced at the thought as he turned his attention to the approaching vast landscape of his estate. He really wished he could have spotted Celine's true nature from the get go...mayb
The annual grand ball had finally begun, casting its enchanting spell upon the breathtaking city of New Orleans. It was an event as legendary as the crescent moon that presently adorned the night sky, known to be the grandest gathering of nobles, socialites, and influential figures in the city of high and mighty status. A symphony of laughter and music cascaded through the opulent halls of the grand venue, adorned with glistening chandeliers and cascades of colorful flowers intricately arranged at every corner. As the clock struck nine in the evening, the grand ball was in full swing. Half of the illustrious guests had already arrived, their radiant gowns and impeccable suits adding splendor to the glittering affair. Among the throngs of elegantly dressed individuals, Celine and Mark made their grand entrance, hand in hand, down the velvet-draped red carpet. Cameras flashed, capturing the mesmerizing couple from every angle, immortalizing their presence in the chronicles of high socie
Mark and Celine couldn't believe their eyes. The person standing up on the podium looking all high and might in a 30,000 dollars branded three piece suit...the alleged Leon Heroux, was actually Noel Barrette! They stood there with their mouths open, dumbfounded as they continued to stare with surprise ever so visible on their visage. They both had a lot of questions going through their mind at that moment, but neither had the courage nor voice to speak up, thus they both continued to stare like fools. Which made sense seeing as they had not expected to meet him again after five years. In fact, after Mark's men had suddenly lost tabs of him, The couple had considered him dead, or at least a hobo in some run down city who had to fight with the sewer rats for food, but never had they expected him to have risen to such status. For them, the situation was bad! Dire even, but for Leon, it was a good night. Celine and Mark had not expected to see him, but he had expected to see them.He ha
"Fuck!" Celine cried out in anger as she kicked the center table in front of her, sending all the decorative ornaments on it, sprawling all around and the maids who lingered around, flinching. "How dare Noel treat me that way!" She roared louder, while her husband turned towards the maids and shooed them off at once. Not wanting to stay any longer, they all did as told and scrambled off. After they were all gone, safe for the head butler who still lingered, Mark turned his attention to his wife. "Celine, calm down." He tried to sooth her anger as he undid his tie and handed his suit to the butler who quickly scurried away after retrieving it, not wanting to once again be caught in the crossfire of his madam's anger."How can you tell me to calm down, Mark? That bastard is making a fool out of us." Celine screamed, pointing towards the general direction they had come in from after leaving the grand ball. "He was the one who had me thrown out of his restaurant. It was all him! He disg
