V1 Chapter 5: A Shocking Surprise
[Andrew's POV]
I sat inside the Guild after my son went towards the awakening room. I have to admit, awakening is a bit nerve-wracking sensation. (What will he awaken?)
Trying to distract myself from my thoughts, I saw two party members approaching me. One is the scout, Claire, and the other is the tank, Chris.
"Damn, we are late," Claire said when she approached me "couldn't you wait for us? We wanted to meet your son, ya'know" (I bet you overslept)
"I told you we were getting late," Chris said, stopping Claire from nagging me more. (Sigh~ This couple stated again…)
"Oh yeah! Who was finding his gear till the end of time?" Claire retorted
"Shut up! I just forgot where I put my arm protectors," Chris shouted at her (You all are here to meet my son, not fight with each other)
I just kept watching them bicker. They did distract me from my thoughts, though.
After a while, a guild employee came toward me. "The guild master requests you to come to the office," he said. (What happened?)
"What happened? Did something go wrong?"
"I don't know," he shook his head.
I got up from my seat and started walking toward the office; I looked back at my party mates in the eyes, and each one's eyes showed some surprise or concern. I calmed myself down, trying to think of all the possibilities of this happening. (Did something really go wrong?)
*Knock- knock-*
I knocked on the door
"Come in," Came a voice from inside, and I went inside the office door
The room was spacious at one glance. Looking around, I saw many types of awards and antiques, and the office looked like someone from a noble status.
I saw the Guildmaster Brion sitting at the table with a somber expression on his face; opposite him, I saw my son, Jake sitting and eating bread rolls. (What's with all this?)
I squinted my eyes towards him, thinking of possible reasons I was called.
I looked towards Jake; he was looking at me too. I gestured for him to tell me what was happening, but he just smiled and gestured me back to talk to the GuildMaster. (What do you mean? Why aren't you clearly telling me?)
"Have a seat, Mr. Andrew," the guild master's words distracted me from my thoughts. After sitting down and taking another glance at my son, I asked, "Is there any sort of problem."
"Um, you can put it like that," he said (Why is everything so confusing here?)
"What happened?"
"Your son awakened a silver potential with an auxiliary element."
"..." (What did he say? Silver what?)
"Mr. Andrew?" Guild Master asked me again
"Can you repeat what you just said? I am afraid I didn't understand," I replied (Was he talking about silver potential?)
"I said, your son awakened as a Silver Potential. His elements are Ice and Darkness; he is one of a kind," he elaborated on his previous words (what the fuck?)
"He did what?" (How did this happen? Silver? Darkness?) I looked at my son to reconfirm Guild Master's words, and sure enough, Jake nodded.
Did I hear it right? Did my son really awaken that?
These were the things that were only talked about in fairy tales and folklore. I have never seen or heard someone awaken an auxiliary element before. (Is he really my son?)
"..." I was truly speechless. I don't know how to react to this news. (Silver means he has to become Knight but darkness?)
After giving me a while to organize and process this information, the Guild Master again said to me. "This is where the problem comes in, Mr. Andrew."
I gestured for him to continue his words. (Problems?)
"Your son is unfortunately really talented, that's the problem" (What do you want to say? Unfortunately?
I got seriously pissed off by how the Guild Master spoke of my child. But even though I was glaring at him, he ignored me and continued speaking.
"Yes, if your son only was a Silver talent, he could've been recruited as a Knight, but 'if only' he was silver talent."
My eyes went wide when the realization hit me, (He has a darkness element too!) I noticed the hint given by the Guild Master (Is he telling me this because he could do something?)
"Can you help us?" I got straight to the point
Hearing my reply, Guild Master smiled and said, "If the right price is paid."
He was indeed a greedy man, a bootlicker of nobles. (Fucking jackal)
"What do you want? And how will you help us?" I asked with a stern tone, releasing my Magic Pressure.
"Nothing much, I just want the A-rank adventurer forever indebted to me" (Damn! He trapped me in this)
"You didn't answer my second question," I asked again, (This better be worth it)
"I will make sure that the darkness element of your son doesn't go out of this building," he again said to me with a confident smile. (He will be taken by those nobles; still, it's better than dying, I guess)
I sighed and said, "I accept, but you'll regret it if you go out of your word. (I truly have no means to confirm, I just hope he gets scared) I leaked my magic pressure to rub in the effects of my threat.
I feel truly helpless now. My son always said he wanted to be free. But look at his bad luck; he will be getting chained by the nobles. (Considering he is a Silver talent, he might get brainwashed too)
They will go to any length to keep the common folks in the palm of their hands. (They will make Jake a weapon!)
I looked at him. He was showing no expression on his face, Blankly listened to what was going on around him; his mind was not there.
After discussing some minor and finer details, we got up to leave, but then the Guild Master stopped us and said, "You should be careful of people of 'that' side. (Yes, I forgot about them too, sigh~ It has been a long day. I need a break)
What the Guild Master talked about was the people of the Underworld, especially the slave traders. They would do anything to have Silver potential as one of their merchandise.
After that, I walked out of the Guild, and we went straight home. (We need a lot of discussion after this)
I don't know what fate has in store for us.
V1 Chapter 6: Stir (R-18 Warning!) In this world, most of the population were the common folks, or we call them commoners. But there were minorities too. The most prominent of them were Nobles. Unlike earth, where Nobles just ruled with manipulation and starved people to death, in this world, even if a full-blown war was to happen between the Nobles and the Commoners, the Nobles would win by a considerable margin. The other one of group was the dark side of society, the Underworld. They always stayed and fought inside the shadows. One could not recognize the people from the Underworld in the common folks. The dark side existed everywhere. While the Nobles ruled the people and showed chivalry and mercy, the Underworld coveted everything else. The Underworld ruled everything that was 'too below for a noble to participate in.' Illegal drugs, smuggling, human trafficking, looting, and much more. While Nobles tried to get peace and stability between Commoners and control them, the
V1 Chapter 7: Training As the information about the Silver talent circulated in the light and dark factions, although they all reacted differently, they all made a common decision. To stop the rumors of Silver talent spread around too much. Nobody wanted a third faction to take advantage of this variable. Although one may believe that in no way would there be a third faction that could even make a dent in their power struggles. But the leaders of these factions believed otherwise. There have been many instances where a third party has taken advantage of their situation. Sometimes they assassinated a major figure, which led to a huge power vacuum. And sometimes sabotaging them both, which led to expensive monetary and personnel losses. Both of the factions weirdly complimented each other. Nobody wanted the third wheel in their toxic relationship. What they didn't know was that a third wheel was already formed even before the news of Jake's Silver talent came out. It was the Guild
V1 Chapter 8: Rising Pressure Jake's life was passing with monotone. He was only focused on becoming stronger, while things around him were in a ripple effect. The dark side was plotting something inconspicuous, and the Baron could not track them at all. Which was a nerve-wracking situation for anyone. People are the most afraid of things they know nothing about. Getting anxious about the current situation, he wanted to send away the irregular variable away from the city. The way the Underworld worked was its strong and weak points at the same. They hid in shadows and attacked in the most unexpected situations. This is where weakness comes in. If they get discovered in between their plans, they will fail miserably. So generally, there is a notion in the Lights faction that the Underworld doesn't attack head-on. Following this concept, Baron was preparing for the departure of Jake away from the city. The Lights faction usually needed a reason to kill or purge anything. They c
V1 Chapter 9: The Offer That night when my dad came back home. We had a family debate about the right decision to take. We all knew that I shouldn't delay this any longer. Any more will strain our relationship with the City Lord. My dad told me that serving the City under Baron Balek would be the best scenario for me right now. Although I will leave the town for more than ten years, ultimately, I will return to the place I ought to serve as a Knight. (I'll be back home again) Considering my father's reputation, I will also be respected and looked upon in this city. His words seemed reasonable, but I was still salty about not being able to explore the world and travel. Still, deep down inside, I knew that this was a decent life anyone would die for in this world. There was also an element in our decision; it was that I had no choice but to accept the offer of Baron Balek. I didn't want to be 'silenced' or, worse, to be sold away and kept involuntarily. Just imagining these s
V1 Chapter 10: Merchant Town Andrew wasn't happy with the treatment Jake was receiving. He had a frown on his face the whole time while the meeting with the Knights was going on. Those Knights acted as if nothing was wrong, but Andrew held onto his suspicions. Something felt wrong; this whole drama of Baron rushing them to make a decision was shady. It looked like they wanted to send Jake far away as soon as possible. (Are they trying to hide something?) Andrew, who grew up in this town, had an idea of the dark faction or the Mafia, as the ordinary citizens called it, but he didn't have a picture of the actual depth of darkness. He could've suspected those people, but he didn't believe that the Baron would run away from those rag-tag rejects of society. It was too unfathomable to imagine that state authorities would fear the criminals. As absurd as it sounds. Still, it created an ink of doubt inside his mind. (What if it's true that there are people who want to capture Jake?)
V1 Chapter 11: Goodbye Spar The day of my departure was just around the corner now. The days which might be the last time I would see my parents passed by in a flash. I'll have to set off for Ethos tomorrow, making me feel empty and sad inside. Although I may have my consciousness of my past life, the bond I have created with my family is special to me now. This is how I wished to live in my previous life, too, with my family. I was sitting in my backyard, gazing up at the sky while my thought was running rampant. A lot has happened in the last five years. (I got the thing that I so yearned for) I lived, ate, and slept with my new family. It was one of the best feelings I got from this life. Maybe this happiness got multiplied by the fact that I lost everyone in my previous life, but I didn't care. My heart, which was numbed before, slowly regained its former form. V1 Chapter 12: GoodbyesThe town of Balek is a pretty small town in comparison to this world. Some may even say that this town acted like a satellite city for the town of Ishara. There were very few residential buildings in Ishara, so most of the people came to Balek town for residency. This town didn't have many roads and pathways built to connect itself to the major cities of the Etunesian Kingdom, which made it a fair bit of a secluded town, with visitors mainly coming from Ishara.Being a secluded town, this town was relatively quiet and monotonous from the rest of the world. V1 Chapter 4: Awakening Ceremony Two years have passed since I started swordsmanship training with dad. It was really harsh at first, but then I got addicted to it. It was as if I had found something that was supposed to be mine. If anyone asked me in this world what I like the most, I would answer them Sword and Magic. I was five now, and this was the time of my awakening. To say that I was nervous was just an understatement. I was swinging my sword in the garden. Swords gave me peace of mind; it was like a trance-like state where I could peacefully introspect myself. I always diligently trained under my father. My addiction and the love I cultivated towards swords were part of that motivation. And another part of the reason was that I was horrified. Yes, I was horrified to be a bottom-feeder in this world. I wanted to have choices (What good I would be if I became a failure in this second chance). I wanted to be the owner of my fate, free from burdens. I sometimes overexer
