Chapter 1
“That exam was …” “Absolutely exhausting. God!”, Benji blurted out. “Ohkayy..”, Ethan said slowly in a low voice. “I couldn't even get halfway through the theory and those objective questions were just way too difficult to solve each in sixty seconds! It was our last exam for God Sake, why did they have to make it so hard!” Benji kicked a bottle in his way in anger. He kicked it again and this time, Ethan strolled a little ahead of him, kicking the bottle to the side. It jumped up as he applied force to the slimmer end. When he caught it, he shot it into the dumpster. “Really?” “What? We have to keep the school clean” “We are graduating in a few weeks Ethan. You don't have to care so much” “Well, as vale…” “Valedictorian yeah, we get it. You don't have to rub it in our faces”, Benji said, rolling his eyes in an annoyed and exhausted manner. “How am I rubbing it in your face? I was making a fact” “Oh yeah, in the middle of me pouring my heart out about that exam” “Hey, hey. I did not, ok? You were done talking” “No I wasn't. I was waiting for you to make a statement but I guess you weren't listening anyway. Trust you to be more concerned about a bottle than your best friend” “What..? Oh.. ok are we.. Are we really doing this right now?”, Ethan asked, his expression serious. “I don't know about you Dawg but I need out.” “Out of what?” “I need to cool out”, Benji said, taking a detour. He strode off the interlocking. “But what about our plans for tonight?”, Ethan said, his arms spread out. He got no response as Benji continued to stroll away towards a building not so far away. Ethan watched his best friend, left a little confused from his behavior that evening. He could have pinned it on the exam but Ethan felt there was something more to it. Ethan stopped staring but his mind seemed to become restless over the issue. Why should he though? He knew Benji couldn't stay angry for long. They'd be back to normal by tomorrow, even tomorrow was too long for Benji to cool off. Perhaps, it was the crack? Benji should have stopped drugs a long time ago. But a forgotten habit wasn't hard to hook on again, especially one that was so hard to come off. Ethan soon reached the main study hall where he'd left his books and bag. At the right middle corner of the hall, Ethan shoved his books into the black medium sized school bag. He wasn't in a hurry for somewhere else but something in him just didn't want to stay a second longer. The hall was rowdy anyway and that was something he wasn't a fan of. Lucas, the Chancellor's son, and his gang, sat across not too far from where Ethan was. Of course, they had to be the ones playing the horrible music that seraded the whole hall. Lawless beings. When Ethan was all packed up, he was ready to leave. At least he attempted. “Isn't that Pickle boy?”, One of Lucas' minions called out to him. They all laughed, turning toward him. Ethan ignored, walking on. “Hey Pickle boy”, Lucas’ sarcastic voice rose above the music. Ethan ignored still, making his way to the door. The volume turned down slowly. “Hey! You deaf?”, one of the boys shouted, jumping a row of chairs as he got up. Ethan still didn't answer. He placed his hand on the door knob. “I dare you, Pickle. Go through that door” Ethan stopped halfway, his hand still on the door. He gritted his teeth, his anger rising. Why did they have to make it so hard? He didn't want to fight, not now that he'd kept such a good streak being valedictorian. He looked down. The footsteps of the lot he could hear were slowly walking down to where he was. The door seemed to form a perfect angle of 45°. Perhaps if Ethan had a protractor, he could confirm that he was right. “I thought so. Pussy” They laughed and it echoed like the hall was empty. But it was only quiet and within those seconds, it was funny how many people had left. “Turn, you pussy or I'll turn you”, one of the boys threatened. Ethan let go of the door and it swung shut, the sound of the door hitting its frame echoing throughout the hall. When Ethan turned, there was for sure almost no one else in the hall. The boys were a bit taken aback but they braced up. “Tough pickle huh?” Lucas asked in a sarcastic tone and the others laughed. “You think you're so tough. Banging the door like some cowboy superman.” Ethan kept shut, looking him in the eyes. Lucas stepped forward, trying to measure up. “Is hearing not one of your superpowers, Pickle Boy?” “My name is not Pickle Boy”, Ethan said, his voice low in an uncanny calmness. “Are you trying to argue with me, valedictorian?” Ethan smirked. “What do you want, Lucas?” “Aha! Now you're talking Pickle Boy. Me and the boys were hungry. Could you help us grab a snack from Burglaries?” “I'm not your errand boy, Lucas” “Is that a No, Pickle Boy? I don't remember giving you a choice” “I wasn't asking you either”, Ethan said coldly. He adjusted the bag across his shoulders. “I have somewhere to be” He turned but Ethan hadn't expected them to leave him alone. Of course they hadn't. Lucas had dared to try and drag his shirt . “Hey! I'm not done talking to you Pickle Boy!” Kpow!I Ethan turned more swiftly than Lucas had imagined he would and soon he saw himself across the hall, his jaw rearranged. His side hurt as well and it took a minute for both to come to realization and when Ethan did, he bolted out of the door. “What the … the fuck!”, Lucas struggled to stand up, holding his side. He whimpered like an injured dog. “What are you all doing standing like dummies, huh? Get him already!” They all ran out almost at once. Ethan by this time had gone some distance but even he had sustained some sort of injury. His knuckles hurt and his fingers felt weak as well. Not to add, he'd hit his feet on a stone in his attempt to escape. Unfortunately, he couldn't do that for long. The boys were on his tail and his bad foot was in pain. “Shit!”Chapter 2He leaped, trying his best to run as fast as he could. He caught some sand and threw it in their direction, delaying them a little. As he detoured into a bushy path, his legs got caught up in a twig and he fell.“Arghh!”, He groaned, his already injured foot knocked once again against a stone. “You asshole! Thought you could run from us huh?”, one of them grabbed him up. The next thing he felt was a heavy punch to his jaw. Another one landed on his cheekbone and Ethan felt the blood gush up through his throat. He sputtered out.“C’mon boy. Control yourself Pickle Boy. We haven't even got started yet“They dragged him along the ground, pulling his body with the dirt, through the thorny, bushy path. The sharp thorns cut through his clothes and he was well tattered before they even threw him into the abandoned plant house.“Urghh!”, He groaned, holding his side cut by the thorns from the naked bushes they'd dragged him to. “We are just getting started, Pickle Boy”, the bigges
Chapter 3“Maddie…”His sentence was cut short as she rushed him in a hug. He hugged back but slowly. His mind couldn't wrap around how she knew. “What happened? Why didn't you call me? Look at … you… you look…?”, she paused, scrutinizing him with her eyes, expecting his body to be badly battered. “ … Benji didn't even know where you were..”“I. . I lost my phone. But I'm alright, it's fine”“You're not. They beat you up Ethan. You know better than to stand up against those boys”“You … know what happened?”, Ethan asked in a more concerned than surprised manner. Maddison's eyes widened, like she'd let herself be caught off guard.“How did you know?”“Claire told me. She said she'd seen you punch Lucas and then they chased you like a thief. And then Phil said he saw you covered in blood, staggering into the cafeteria. I bugged that one and she wouldn't even tell me a thing. I was so scared, Ethan. I…”“I'm sorry. I'm sorry I scared you”, he said, standing as he pulled her to himself.
Chapter 4Mr. Trevor stared hard at Ethan as he took his phone to his ear.“Get your team up here at the administrative board room”“No.. no! I'm the victim. I am the victim!”, Ethan shouted, scattering the documents atop the table. His eyes were reddish and tears darkened them even more.“I'm the victim!”Ethan pulled down the large drawer mounted against the wall closest to the door in anger and rage.“I'm the victim!”“Security, get this boy out of here!”They held onto Ethan, taking him by the arms. “No! Let me go!”He struggled, kicking and pushing against their hard, strong grip. He shouted and struggled, even holding onto the door as they attempted to carry him out.“Let me go!”They soon loosened his grip on the door. Handcuffed, they shoved him into the school's security shuttle. Ethan breathed heavily as the bulky tears streamed down his eyes. The men monitored him as he cleared the apartment the school had built and awarded him personally. While at it, a knock came to the
Chapter 5“Arghhh!”, he shouted, hitting the landline in anger against the glass box. Ethan breathed heavily, his fist clenched in obvious, physical anger though he was inwardly happy he hadn't broken the glass nor the landline. He'd seen a policeman around the corner and he was certainly not prepared to go to jail.“Better you were in cell than outside”He still had nowhere to go. He ran a hand through his hair trying not to lose it.“God, where am I gonna go?”He breathed in and then out, finally deciding to call his girlfriend. He pressed down the number buttons, his heart hoping that he'd hear her ever consoling voice as the buzzing sound began. He held onto the receiver like it was some fragile item but the call ended up terminating with no response. He dialed again, this time slowly, like heart and hope were breaking into bits in him. The buzzing began, taking longer than usual. But there wasn't any response. “Hey Maddie.. urr.. this is Ethan. I … I'm really in a very bad state
Chapter 6He'd have knocked, perhaps they'd have had enough time.Perhaps.If the door wasn't already open. “Maddie?”, Ethan said softly, knowing what time it was. Madison's neighborhood was unusually quiet and they seemed to like to keep the peace. Once, he'd tickled Maddison so hard, she had almost laughed her head off. Her next door neighbor had come over the very next day to complain of how disturbing they were. That would have been a one off if they had been visited by two other neighbors on the same day, saying exactly the same thing.Weird, right?Ethan thought it was more than just weird. It was crazy. Ethan closed the door behind him, his mind switching back to why the door was open. Maddie never left her door open. At least as far as he knew.He looked into the kitchen, wanting to call on Maddie but deciding otherwise. Perhaps she was sleeping.Perhaps she was so tired, she had to take her clothes off in the living room. Perhaps her lingerie too.A red gown, matching ling
Chapter 7 “He's dead”The line on the cardiographer straightened and the loud high pitched sound it made resounded in the room. The doctor, with head movement, signaled to the nurse.“Charge” A surge of electricity went through his body and Ethan felt his soul rise and then with a hard, sudden push back into his body. He could hardly open his eyes and when he tried, or so he thought, he saw the doctors backing up. His eyes felt weak and heavy and he was squinting.Or so he thought. To the doctors, he was very much dead.He closed his eyes and a thick cover of darkness covered him. A darkness that drifted to sleep. The next time he opened his eyes, the face of a young nurse looked down at him, an obvious brightness to her countenance. She looked like she was quite happy to meet him and Ethan couldn't tell why. He was more surprised that he was still alive and he knew he was still in the hospital from his surroundings. A man's figure appeared beside her unexpectedly to him, his face
Chapter 8Ethan couldn't tell what was more fascinating - the array of designer clothes, neatly laundered or the intriguing technology of the closet. Short shelves against the wall contained shoes polished to perfection that is if they weren't brand new. To his right, the jewels were arranged on headless dummies and in glass cases, the watches even had a special light to give a glow from underneath them. In fact, Ethan was lost in another world until he heard the doorbell from the door again.“Shit!”He looked near the clothes section to see if he'd get any casual wear. Some light Polo V-necks hung on the other end and Ethan rushed to put one on. He took one boxer shorts out of the drawers and put that on as well. Hopping on one leg in his completely rugged walk-in closet, he came out of the room and the door closed behind him. He walked to the door, finally pulling on the shorts to his waistline and he picked the card from its cardholder attached to the wall.He pressed against the r
Chapter 9Standing there, he couldn't still believe he was in the Household of The Wayne's. The Waynes! Scratch that. He was the grandson, Ethan Wayne. The rightful.. or actually, the only possible heir to the inheritance of The Wayne Fortune! That was completely mind-blowing. Nah, it just had to be cap.“This can't be true. This is a joke. She was probably lying”, he said to himself, one hand on his waist and one stroking his chin line. Just then, he noticed the mirror, built into the white doorless cupboard. On the tabletop just by the door, he could see his smartphone as well. Great. He could check what Ethan Wayne really looked like in today's age. He didn't even know what era he was living in to start with. He went over to get the phone first. Damn! It was the latest Givoni. It had his face recognition and as soon as he put it on, it verified his face and opened.Woah. First evidence. The time.April, 5th 2027He was living in the 21st century alright. In his world, this wou
