Chapter 2
He leaped, trying his best to run as fast as he could. He caught some sand and threw it in their direction, delaying them a little. As he detoured into a bushy path, his legs got caught up in a twig and he fell. “Arghh!”, He groaned, his already injured foot knocked once again against a stone. “You asshole! Thought you could run from us huh?”, one of them grabbed him up. The next thing he felt was a heavy punch to his jaw. Another one landed on his cheekbone and Ethan felt the blood gush up through his throat. He sputtered out. “C’mon boy. Control yourself Pickle Boy. We haven't even got started yet“ They dragged him along the ground, pulling his body with the dirt, through the thorny, bushy path. The sharp thorns cut through his clothes and he was well tattered before they even threw him into the abandoned plant house. “Urghh!”, He groaned, holding his side cut by the thorns from the naked bushes they'd dragged him to. “We are just getting started, Pickle Boy”, the biggest amongst them said with a laugh , raising him by the collar of his jacket. “Stop”, Lucas said, walking in. He had his hand up in a halt sign. He walked towards Ethan, leaping a little from his side that still hurt. “Hmm… think you are so tough huh?” All he could do was spit out from his bloody mouth. The big boy adjusted his hold on him and another of Lucas' minions assisted him, holding the other end of the collar. “We haven't even started yet. We are gonna make you regret Pickle Boy. Or should I say Ethan Wayne”, he said, leaning closer in his last sentence. “What’s your name, tell me?” Ethan looked up with dead eyes. “Huh? Pickleboy?” Ethan's breathing was heavy but he said nothing. Lucas stepped closer and then punched him in his guts. Blood spurted out of Ethan's mouth. “Urghh”, he groaned. “What's your name, boy?”, Lucas asked, louder this time. “Huh? You can't talk?”, Lucas gave another hard punch to Ethan's abdomen. “Cat got your tongue Pickleboy?!” Another punch. “Say Pickle Boy!” Blood spurted all over the ground. “Say Pickle Boy son!” More blood. “Pickle…”, blood spurted all over the remains of the words. Ethan couldn't even describe in words the pain he was feeling let alone call out the name. “Louder asshole!” This time it was kicks and punches and Ethan knew he was most certainly going to have that concussion. They were shouting louder at him but the words seemed to come from farther and farther until they faded out and all he could hear were sounds like mumbles, like someone beckoning on the door of a sound proof room. It was the last thing he'd remember before zoning out. Minutes he'd woken up to a battered and swollen body in wee hours of the morning. *************** Ethan sat up on the hospital bed, his body still brutally sore. The doctors had given him some pain reliefs but his body had been brutally beaten, funny though he hadn't broken any bones. The doctors had been surprised as well considering how bad he was when he'd staggered into the hospital. He glanced at the circular standing mirror. His face had been bashed badly but still luckily, no teeth and his jaw wasn't as bad as he'd thought he'd be. He had bad bruises though but the more he seemed to look into the mirror, the more they seemed to … “Ethan Wayne?”, The doctor asked as he came through the curtain. The nurse was behind him and Ethan thought he'd seen her scurry away. She was pale and white like she'd seen a ghost or something. Perhaps him. “How're you feeling today Ethan?” “I’m .. I feel sore kinda”, Ethan said, wondering if he'd just lied as he didn't feel as sore as when he'd first woke up. He sat up, stretching his aching back a little. “You… you're healing quite fast, Ethan. It's… surprising” “Uhhh.. I guess It wasn't that bad after all..?” The doctor nodded slowly. “Nurse, check his vitals please” The nurse hesitated, like he was some kind of monster that could snap. “They are … stable sir”, she said, picking her words as she stepped back from him. The doctor was silent for a moment. “Excuse us Sandra please.” She nodded, making her way out. “And take a break. Forty five minutes. Stress is the first cause of hallucination” The nurse scurried out just as Ethan had thought he saw her do before. The air seemed unusually tense and Ethan couldn't decide if he should be nervous or chill. The doctor took a seat and pulled off his glasses. Okay … “Ethan when you came, you were in a very, very critical state. We were in a rush to stabilize you in the theater and… “ The doctor hesitated. “You were … we had doubts we would be able to sustain your life” The doctor paused again. “But .. for some reason.. you started reading. Your heart rate started reading. “ “Was it supposed to not read?” “It's… it's a … it's a rare case. It doesn't usually happen, especially with a case like yours.” “Oh”, Ethan said, looking down at his feet. When he raised his head, the doctor just stared at him “Are you on drugs.. Ethan?” Ethan didn't think heard well. “Dru..” “Ethan!”Chapter 3“Maddie…”His sentence was cut short as she rushed him in a hug. He hugged back but slowly. His mind couldn't wrap around how she knew. “What happened? Why didn't you call me? Look at … you… you look…?”, she paused, scrutinizing him with her eyes, expecting his body to be badly battered. “ … Benji didn't even know where you were..”“I. . I lost my phone. But I'm alright, it's fine”“You're not. They beat you up Ethan. You know better than to stand up against those boys”“You … know what happened?”, Ethan asked in a more concerned than surprised manner. Maddison's eyes widened, like she'd let herself be caught off guard.“How did you know?”“Claire told me. She said she'd seen you punch Lucas and then they chased you like a thief. And then Phil said he saw you covered in blood, staggering into the cafeteria. I bugged that one and she wouldn't even tell me a thing. I was so scared, Ethan. I…”“I'm sorry. I'm sorry I scared you”, he said, standing as he pulled her to himself.
Chapter 4Mr. Trevor stared hard at Ethan as he took his phone to his ear.“Get your team up here at the administrative board room”“No.. no! I'm the victim. I am the victim!”, Ethan shouted, scattering the documents atop the table. His eyes were reddish and tears darkened them even more.“I'm the victim!”Ethan pulled down the large drawer mounted against the wall closest to the door in anger and rage.“I'm the victim!”“Security, get this boy out of here!”They held onto Ethan, taking him by the arms. “No! Let me go!”He struggled, kicking and pushing against their hard, strong grip. He shouted and struggled, even holding onto the door as they attempted to carry him out.“Let me go!”They soon loosened his grip on the door. Handcuffed, they shoved him into the school's security shuttle. Ethan breathed heavily as the bulky tears streamed down his eyes. The men monitored him as he cleared the apartment the school had built and awarded him personally. While at it, a knock came to the
Chapter 5“Arghhh!”, he shouted, hitting the landline in anger against the glass box. Ethan breathed heavily, his fist clenched in obvious, physical anger though he was inwardly happy he hadn't broken the glass nor the landline. He'd seen a policeman around the corner and he was certainly not prepared to go to jail.“Better you were in cell than outside”He still had nowhere to go. He ran a hand through his hair trying not to lose it.“God, where am I gonna go?”He breathed in and then out, finally deciding to call his girlfriend. He pressed down the number buttons, his heart hoping that he'd hear her ever consoling voice as the buzzing sound began. He held onto the receiver like it was some fragile item but the call ended up terminating with no response. He dialed again, this time slowly, like heart and hope were breaking into bits in him. The buzzing began, taking longer than usual. But there wasn't any response. “Hey Maddie.. urr.. this is Ethan. I … I'm really in a very bad state
Chapter 6He'd have knocked, perhaps they'd have had enough time.Perhaps.If the door wasn't already open. “Maddie?”, Ethan said softly, knowing what time it was. Madison's neighborhood was unusually quiet and they seemed to like to keep the peace. Once, he'd tickled Maddison so hard, she had almost laughed her head off. Her next door neighbor had come over the very next day to complain of how disturbing they were. That would have been a one off if they had been visited by two other neighbors on the same day, saying exactly the same thing.Weird, right?Ethan thought it was more than just weird. It was crazy. Ethan closed the door behind him, his mind switching back to why the door was open. Maddie never left her door open. At least as far as he knew.He looked into the kitchen, wanting to call on Maddie but deciding otherwise. Perhaps she was sleeping.Perhaps she was so tired, she had to take her clothes off in the living room. Perhaps her lingerie too.A red gown, matching ling
Chapter 7 “He's dead”The line on the cardiographer straightened and the loud high pitched sound it made resounded in the room. The doctor, with head movement, signaled to the nurse.“Charge” A surge of electricity went through his body and Ethan felt his soul rise and then with a hard, sudden push back into his body. He could hardly open his eyes and when he tried, or so he thought, he saw the doctors backing up. His eyes felt weak and heavy and he was squinting.Or so he thought. To the doctors, he was very much dead.He closed his eyes and a thick cover of darkness covered him. A darkness that drifted to sleep. The next time he opened his eyes, the face of a young nurse looked down at him, an obvious brightness to her countenance. She looked like she was quite happy to meet him and Ethan couldn't tell why. He was more surprised that he was still alive and he knew he was still in the hospital from his surroundings. A man's figure appeared beside her unexpectedly to him, his face
Chapter 8Ethan couldn't tell what was more fascinating - the array of designer clothes, neatly laundered or the intriguing technology of the closet. Short shelves against the wall contained shoes polished to perfection that is if they weren't brand new. To his right, the jewels were arranged on headless dummies and in glass cases, the watches even had a special light to give a glow from underneath them. In fact, Ethan was lost in another world until he heard the doorbell from the door again.“Shit!”He looked near the clothes section to see if he'd get any casual wear. Some light Polo V-necks hung on the other end and Ethan rushed to put one on. He took one boxer shorts out of the drawers and put that on as well. Hopping on one leg in his completely rugged walk-in closet, he came out of the room and the door closed behind him. He walked to the door, finally pulling on the shorts to his waistline and he picked the card from its cardholder attached to the wall.He pressed against the r
Chapter 9Standing there, he couldn't still believe he was in the Household of The Wayne's. The Waynes! Scratch that. He was the grandson, Ethan Wayne. The rightful.. or actually, the only possible heir to the inheritance of The Wayne Fortune! That was completely mind-blowing. Nah, it just had to be cap.“This can't be true. This is a joke. She was probably lying”, he said to himself, one hand on his waist and one stroking his chin line. Just then, he noticed the mirror, built into the white doorless cupboard. On the tabletop just by the door, he could see his smartphone as well. Great. He could check what Ethan Wayne really looked like in today's age. He didn't even know what era he was living in to start with. He went over to get the phone first. Damn! It was the latest Givoni. It had his face recognition and as soon as he put it on, it verified his face and opened.Woah. First evidence. The time.April, 5th 2027He was living in the 21st century alright. In his world, this wou
Chapter 10For a while, silence hovered and Ethan felt he was the only one who was feeling the tension. Apart from having a very high sense of impersonation. Ethan could feel the weight of unspoken words from his grandfather's mouth. Finally, his grandfather broke the ice.“I believe you are yet to explain your lateness, Ethan”Ethan hesitated, not even having the dandiest thing come to his mind. He was completely blank on what to say and he knew there was no way he wouldn't stammer if he opened his mouth. “I urr…”, Ethan began, swallowing hard.“Sit up straight and project your voice properly”Ethan closed his mouth and sat up.“We don't stutter in the Wayne family, I've warned you. Now answer the question.”Ethan took a moment before he opened his mouth again.“I didn't get up on time”“Your alarm goes off at 1 a.m, 3 a.m and 4 a.m. If you didn't get up at all between these times, that means you didn't study. I believe you have a test today, am I correct?”“Yes sir”, Ethan answered
