Chapter 4
Mr. Trevor stared hard at Ethan as he took his phone to his ear. “Get your team up here at the administrative board room” “No.. no! I'm the victim. I am the victim!”, Ethan shouted, scattering the documents atop the table. His eyes were reddish and tears darkened them even more. “I'm the victim!” Ethan pulled down the large drawer mounted against the wall closest to the door in anger and rage. “I'm the victim!” “Security, get this boy out of here!” They held onto Ethan, taking him by the arms. “No! Let me go!” He struggled, kicking and pushing against their hard, strong grip. He shouted and struggled, even holding onto the door as they attempted to carry him out. “Let me go!” They soon loosened his grip on the door. Handcuffed, they shoved him into the school's security shuttle. Ethan breathed heavily as the bulky tears streamed down his eyes. The men monitored him as he cleared the apartment the school had built and awarded him personally. While at it, a knock came to the door. “Who is it?!”,one of them asked in a deep, gruff voice. “It's Miss Davington from the school cafeteria sir” “Lea…” The other one held his hand up. “Let her in” The gruff one went to the door and swung it open. “Good day sirs” “What do you want?” “I came to .. hand these over to Ethan Wayne?” She said, gesturing to him as he stood at the head of his bed. She walked in, the box in her hand. Her emotions were obviously shaking out if whatever she's boxed them in and as soon as she handed him the box, she hugged him tightly, tears unfailingly streaming down her eyes. “I'm so sorry son”, she said, amidst loud sniffs. “I'm so sorry this happened. I..” “It's alright Davi. I'll be fine.”, Ethan said, trying his best to smile. “You can still come around right?” “I can't.. work there anymore Davi. They won't.. they won't allow it” Davi took a moment to digest the reality of him leaving completely. It was like a dream , a nightmare. For a minute, they were in each other’s arms, a warm, consoling hug. “We haven't got all day, woman. I'd advise you to leave now.”, the taller one said to her. They disentangled and Davington touched his sharp cheekbone lightly. “Here”, she said, placing something in his hand. “Ohh Davi…” “Take it”, she said in a slightly sharp tone, just so he knew she was serious. “Good bye Ethan” “Goodbye”, Ethan said in a whisper. He watched her leave slowly, tears trying not to gather in his eyes. He shut them, drawing the unnecessary elements back as he took a deep breath. He heard the door shut before he opened them back and when he did the two men were closer to him. “You have the next twenty five minute to finish” When Ethan was done, the shuttle transported him and his stuff to the main entrance of the school. There, they dumped everything right outside the school gate. “We shouldn't come back and find you here kid” They drove off and Ethan watched the little shuttle car disappear in the distance. It all felt surreal. Too real to be true. He couldn't still believe that in less than five minutes, his whole future had been thrown into the mud, like he never mattered. He'd taken more than just a look at all he ever owned. They were right before him, scattered all over. Best believe, they weren't even much. This was a school he'd slaved to be a part of, a school he'd slaved to keep himself in. Slaved to be the best, a school he'd slaved and given up personal time and pleasures up for just to represent in extracurricular events. In less than five minutes, he'd been declared an ex-student and a rusticated one at that. Tragic. Where was he to go from here? He'd lost his phone and he had no other place. No other relatives. Noone. He'd been by himself. He'd always been by himself. The clouds were slowly gathering and Ethan knew that he had to snap out of whatever stirring depression he was diving into. “I have to get out of this place” He stood up from the sidewalk where he'd been sitting and walked just a little away from the gates of the school. He'd sighted a public phone box and luckily for him, he knew Benji's number off hand. He dialed the first time. There wasn't any response. He took out another cent to try again. The line was out for a bit but finally, the phone connected. “Hello?” “Hey, hey Benji. It's me. It's uhh, it's Ethan” “Ethan who?”, His voice was groggy and Ethan felt he was either high or just extremely sleepy. “It's me. Ethan. Ethan Wayne. Your best friend” “Oh..”, he responded, taking a moment of what Ethan assumed was getting himself together. “What's up?” “Uhh.. I got .. I had to make an emergency move today. Out of my apartment. I was.. I was wondering if I could come over” “Yeah, I .. I wish you could man but I have my girl over and you know my apartment isn't really large.” “I know I just… I just need somewhere to stay today, just so I can put my thoughts together. Just for the night.” “I’m sorry. It’s not just gonna work. I told you, I have my girl over. What happened to your place anyway? “I'll explain later just.. help me out here okay? I'm stranded. I don't have anywhere to go. I don't know anywhere. My stuff is scattered all over, I couldn't even get all of it out. Just please.. just this one night” “Bro I've told you ok? I can't have you over when my girl's around.” “Benji? What.. are you high or something?” “Get off my phone man” The line terminated but Ethan dialed again. “Come on man. Come on. I just explained my situation to you.” Ethan said, his voice rising. “Hey, hey, I've told you, man. It's not gonna work ok? I'm not the one who advised you to go punching the Chancellor's son in the face, ok? What the heck were you thinking? Now, don't you call my phone again. Bye” The line terminated again and Ethan was most dumbfounded on what had just happened. Where was he going to go now? His so-called bed friend had bailed out on him without even thinking twice. He breathed out loudly. “Calm down Ethan. It's gonna be alright* He had to move on . It was getting late. He placed another coin into the slot and dialed Maddie's number. “Pick up, pick up, pick up please.”, He said in swift succession, whispering to himself. The line ended. No response from her. He tried again. “Please, please pick up Maddie”, he prayed silently. The phones rang for a long while. Still no response. He tried. And again. And yet… again. “Arghhh!!”Chapter 5“Arghhh!”, he shouted, hitting the landline in anger against the glass box. Ethan breathed heavily, his fist clenched in obvious, physical anger though he was inwardly happy he hadn't broken the glass nor the landline. He'd seen a policeman around the corner and he was certainly not prepared to go to jail.“Better you were in cell than outside”He still had nowhere to go. He ran a hand through his hair trying not to lose it.“God, where am I gonna go?”He breathed in and then out, finally deciding to call his girlfriend. He pressed down the number buttons, his heart hoping that he'd hear her ever consoling voice as the buzzing sound began. He held onto the receiver like it was some fragile item but the call ended up terminating with no response. He dialed again, this time slowly, like heart and hope were breaking into bits in him. The buzzing began, taking longer than usual. But there wasn't any response. “Hey Maddie.. urr.. this is Ethan. I … I'm really in a very bad state
Chapter 6He'd have knocked, perhaps they'd have had enough time.Perhaps.If the door wasn't already open. “Maddie?”, Ethan said softly, knowing what time it was. Madison's neighborhood was unusually quiet and they seemed to like to keep the peace. Once, he'd tickled Maddison so hard, she had almost laughed her head off. Her next door neighbor had come over the very next day to complain of how disturbing they were. That would have been a one off if they had been visited by two other neighbors on the same day, saying exactly the same thing.Weird, right?Ethan thought it was more than just weird. It was crazy. Ethan closed the door behind him, his mind switching back to why the door was open. Maddie never left her door open. At least as far as he knew.He looked into the kitchen, wanting to call on Maddie but deciding otherwise. Perhaps she was sleeping.Perhaps she was so tired, she had to take her clothes off in the living room. Perhaps her lingerie too.A red gown, matching ling
Chapter 7 “He's dead”The line on the cardiographer straightened and the loud high pitched sound it made resounded in the room. The doctor, with head movement, signaled to the nurse.“Charge” A surge of electricity went through his body and Ethan felt his soul rise and then with a hard, sudden push back into his body. He could hardly open his eyes and when he tried, or so he thought, he saw the doctors backing up. His eyes felt weak and heavy and he was squinting.Or so he thought. To the doctors, he was very much dead.He closed his eyes and a thick cover of darkness covered him. A darkness that drifted to sleep. The next time he opened his eyes, the face of a young nurse looked down at him, an obvious brightness to her countenance. She looked like she was quite happy to meet him and Ethan couldn't tell why. He was more surprised that he was still alive and he knew he was still in the hospital from his surroundings. A man's figure appeared beside her unexpectedly to him, his face
Chapter 8Ethan couldn't tell what was more fascinating - the array of designer clothes, neatly laundered or the intriguing technology of the closet. Short shelves against the wall contained shoes polished to perfection that is if they weren't brand new. To his right, the jewels were arranged on headless dummies and in glass cases, the watches even had a special light to give a glow from underneath them. In fact, Ethan was lost in another world until he heard the doorbell from the door again.“Shit!”He looked near the clothes section to see if he'd get any casual wear. Some light Polo V-necks hung on the other end and Ethan rushed to put one on. He took one boxer shorts out of the drawers and put that on as well. Hopping on one leg in his completely rugged walk-in closet, he came out of the room and the door closed behind him. He walked to the door, finally pulling on the shorts to his waistline and he picked the card from its cardholder attached to the wall.He pressed against the r
Chapter 9Standing there, he couldn't still believe he was in the Household of The Wayne's. The Waynes! Scratch that. He was the grandson, Ethan Wayne. The rightful.. or actually, the only possible heir to the inheritance of The Wayne Fortune! That was completely mind-blowing. Nah, it just had to be cap.“This can't be true. This is a joke. She was probably lying”, he said to himself, one hand on his waist and one stroking his chin line. Just then, he noticed the mirror, built into the white doorless cupboard. On the tabletop just by the door, he could see his smartphone as well. Great. He could check what Ethan Wayne really looked like in today's age. He didn't even know what era he was living in to start with. He went over to get the phone first. Damn! It was the latest Givoni. It had his face recognition and as soon as he put it on, it verified his face and opened.Woah. First evidence. The time.April, 5th 2027He was living in the 21st century alright. In his world, this wou
Chapter 10For a while, silence hovered and Ethan felt he was the only one who was feeling the tension. Apart from having a very high sense of impersonation. Ethan could feel the weight of unspoken words from his grandfather's mouth. Finally, his grandfather broke the ice.“I believe you are yet to explain your lateness, Ethan”Ethan hesitated, not even having the dandiest thing come to his mind. He was completely blank on what to say and he knew there was no way he wouldn't stammer if he opened his mouth. “I urr…”, Ethan began, swallowing hard.“Sit up straight and project your voice properly”Ethan closed his mouth and sat up.“We don't stutter in the Wayne family, I've warned you. Now answer the question.”Ethan took a moment before he opened his mouth again.“I didn't get up on time”“Your alarm goes off at 1 a.m, 3 a.m and 4 a.m. If you didn't get up at all between these times, that means you didn't study. I believe you have a test today, am I correct?”“Yes sir”, Ethan answered
Chapter 11Ethan stepped out of the car and was surprised to see that for the first time, the stares he received from his schoolmates weren't disgusted or demeaning, but instead were met with smiles and winks. He noticed that some of the girls even gave him flirtatious looks.Let's give that a bit of a tweak:This was a significant shift from his usual reception, and Ethan was perplexed as he made his way through the school hall and into the cafeteriaAs he mulled over the events that had led him to this point, Ethan wondered, 'How did I go from being run over by a truck to becoming Ethan Wayne? And why do all of these people suddenly like me?Ethan's thoughts were interrupted when he heard Lucas call out to him, "Yo, Ethan!" Ethan's expression hardened at the sound of Lucas' voice. With a face that betrayed his loathing for Lucas, Ethan turned to face him as he approached. Lucas put his hands on Ethan's shoulders and said, "You look down today, did something happen? Did someone p
Chapter 12Ethan stood up, straightening his shirt and smoothing his hair. He couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness. He had yet to have a conversation with William Wayne, and he wasn't sure what to expect. Ethan followed the maid through the house and into the study, where William Wayne sat behind a large, mahogany desk. The room was filled with the scent of aged leather and pipe tobaccoWilliam looked up from his paperwork as Ethan entered. “Ah, Ethan,”he said, motioning for Ethan to take a seat. “I’m worried about you,it's unlike you to make up late even after all your alarm. It should not happen again Ethan. The Wayne are known for their punctuality you shouldn't spoil the family name, am I clear?”. ‘Yes sir’ Ethan replied ‘How was your test?’ William asked ‘It was Good sir’ Ethan replied William gave a satisfied nod, then spoke again. “'I'll have the staff ensure that your schedule and alarm clock are adjusted accordingly. In the meantime, I'd like for you to att
