Chapter 4: More Money

After the convoy came to a stop, the body guards opened the door for Kagern, then rushed him toward the private jet. He was about to board when his phone rang.

Maybe it was Eric.

Stepping into the jet, Kagern pulled his phone out of his pockets and looked at its screen.

"Dad?!"

He had thought that maybe Eric wanted to thank him for saving him or what, but it was… his father?

Didn't they just talk?

Wasn't he on the way home to talk to him?

Kagern was curious.

"Uh... son, I'm sorry!"

One could feel sorrow in the man's tone.

"Sorry for what, dad?"

"The media is now watching my every move," explained his father. "I don't want them to find out that you're still alive. I want the Williams Family to pay for what they did to us tenfold. You being dead will be my strong weapon to have public opinion on my side."

To be honest, except for his father, Kagern had no other person waiting for him in Cereal City. He would like to stay here in Surreal City where he had made many friends and enemies. That's when his change in status would mean something because many would be shocked.

Plus, he was in his last year of university. It just didn't seem like a good idea to transfer to another university now.

'I have to stay in this city where Erica is, where David is so I can have my revenge.'

'I have to stay here where Lilyon is, where Belinda and her family are so I can repay them.'

'I belong here!'

With these thoughts, Kagern gave his father a reply.

"Dad, you don't have to apologize to me. We were in this together. We shall end it together. If me remaining here can help your revenge plan work better and faster, I can stay. We can always meet each other, after all."

His father returned to his normal character of being direct.

"Thank you for your understanding, son. I'm going to send you some pocket money and there's a big gift I'm sending tomorrow. Just spend it however you want."

"Quite busy right now," the man added before Kagern could say anything. "Good night!"

Disconnected.

Kagern wasn't angry about this. He knew his father's company had too many matters he needed to tend to since he wasn't there for three years. The man also needed to be vigilant since his release was a threat to the Williams Family.

Kagern understood.

"Change of plans," one of the bodyguards said to Kagern as soon as he saw him taking the phone off his ear. "Your father's secretary said we should take you to a hotel instead!"

"Sure!"

Kagern didn't even bother asking them which hotel. He knew these guys were stubborn and only followed orders. Though he would talk about this when he gets a chance to have another conversation with his father, now he decided to just let them do as they pleased.

After all, this had been a long day and it was late. He needed some rest.

*Ding!

Kagern looked at the screen of his phone to check the notification that had just appeared.

[Received $100, 000, 000 from...]

'100 million dollars?'

'No way!'

When his father said he was about to send him some pocket money, Kagern thought it would maybe be another 10 million. Turns out, it was much higher than he thought.

'Why is he sending me so much money?'

Another notification popped up as if it was triggered by his thoughts.

[Don't question it! Just spend it as you please. You could have spent billions by now if I wasn't imprisoned, after all. It's time you erase all the memories of the misery you experienced because of my negligence.]

These words touched Kagern's heart but also made him confused.

Was his father feeling guilty of what happened? That it was his negligence to fall into the Williams Family trap?

'He probably is.'

'But he shouldn't.'

'This is all because of the Williams Family. They'll pay for this.'

...

It didn't take long for the convoy to come to a stop.

"Mr. McHegan, we're here!" the bodyguard said as he opened the door.

Kagern stepped out of the car, and his eyes were greeted by a view of a massive building that screamed elegance and construction brilliance. It was shaped like a heart, and the edges were illuminated by golden lights, bathing both the sky above it and its surroundings into a crimson hue.

Before Eric's call that made Kagern rush to David's place, he was supposed to come to this hotel for his shift as a waiter in its restaurant.

He couldn't believe he was now here, but for a different reason.

'Life continues to surprise me! Ha! Belinda, I'm coming!'

"Your father said we should protect you from the dark so we won't go in with you," added another bodyguard, bringing Kagern back from his reverie.

This information made Kagern's lips curl into a satisfied smile.

'My father is still a genius. Many steps ahead of me. While I say I will ask him to tell the bodyguards to be low-key, he had already done it. Damn!'

With this thought, Kagern nodded at the bodyguard and walked toward Golden Heart Hotel... this time, not to be a waiter there, but to be a vip client!
