Chapter 5: A Disrespectful Receptionist

Because both the staff and the security team knew Kagern, no one disturbed him at the entrance. He had been a part time waiter here for a whole year, after all.

"Hello miss!" he greeted as he approached the counter. He knew the name of the girl at the reception, but didn't call it because they were not that close.

"Hello, dear customer!" Jennifer replied in a friendly tone while shifting her gaze from her phone to him.

"How can we..." she paused a little when she saw who it was, then continued after blinking twice to confirm. "...help you?" she finished her sentence, this time with an unfriendly tone and contemptuous look.

'Isn't this a waiter?'

'What's he 'helloing' me for then?'

She internally asked herself.

"I'm here to book a suite.”

Jennifer couldn't help but burst out laughing when she heard this?

"Ha! Ha!"

Who was Kagern?

A pauper who even took home some leftovers from the hotel restaurant just to save the money he would be spending on meals now wanted to book… a suite?

"Ha! Ha!"

What was a suite to him? Some kind of a candy, accessible to everyone?

Jennifer knew Kagern very well. One of the receptionists, her best friend to be exact, fell for him. Jennifer laughed at her and tried to convince the girl to abandon that idea but she refused.

Because she was her best friend, Jennifer agreed to help her get close to Kagern, only to receive rejection from the guy.

It has been a year.

Now, after depression, Jennifer's best friend found another guy.

What did this jerk want then?

Confused about what was making Jennifer laugh, Kagern decided to ask, "What's so funny?"

He was not new to girls like these so he knew what Jennifer's behavior meant.

She was mocking him.

Jennifer laughed for a few more seconds before replying, "What's not funny? Do you have such low self-esteem that you don't find your joke funny?"

"I'm not joking! I'm here to book a suite... and stop wasting my time!"

It was as if this was the funniest joke Jennifer had ever heard in her life because she laughed even more.

"Ha! Ha! Ha! I know you might think that I'm like Kellen but I'm not. If you're crushing on me, go tell it to your mom instead of embarrassing yourself here just for the sake of talking to me."

'Kellen?'

'What is this crazy girl saying?'

Of course Kagern knew who Kellen was. It was a girl who loved him. Unfortunately for her, Kagern was in love with Erica so he said no. Now this crazy Jennifer thought Kagern was here to confess his love to her like her best friend did to him.

"Ha! You're so wrong and so shameless! I'm here to book a presidential suite, nothing else!"

This time, Jennifer stopped laughing, replacing the ridicule on her face with a mockery look of concern.

"Now I even have pity for you. You have been a worker here for even longer than me. You know what a presidential suite in this hotel is… yet you brag about booking it. Ha! Are you out of your mind?"

There's a reason this hotel had ‘Golden Heart’ in its name. . Each meal here costs six times more than in any other luxurious hotel in the city because one would have to buy six meals; one for himself, 5 others for homeless people out there. It was a hotel for people with a golden heart!

Now, this dude Kagern said he wanted to book a presidential suite. That would be 5 times the original cost, which also was not something a pauper like him could achieve even if he starved himself for a hundred years and saved all his salary.

"Just leave and go to your waiting job. I'm not interested in humiliating you anymore. You need pity!"

To be honest, Jennifer was pleased when she saw Kagern approach her. Besides being proof that she was prettier than her best friend, it was also an opportunity to avenge her.

However, after hearing how crazy the guy sounded, she was not in the mood to humiliate him anymore.

Who would like to humiliate a crazy person? It would not be revenge if the guy was out of his senses and didn't get hurt like she wished.

"I need your manager!"

Kagern managed to blut out only those four words. He was so tired after everything that had happened to him today that he didn't have energy to keep arguing with this disrespectful receptionist.

"You're not new here so you know her and where to find her. Bon voyage!"

"Jennifer Hoffman," Kagern had been avoiding to call her name, but now he couldn't hold anymore. How could he go searching for the manager himself? "Go get me your manager now! I came here as a client, not as whoever you normally know, got it?"

Jennifer smacked her face with her palm at these words.

“Gosh! Are you that eager to get yourself humiliated? Why don't you quietly leave now that I'm still going easy on you?”

Kagern felt speechless. How could a person be this stubborn? Didn't she even ask herself if maybe Kagern was right?

“Jennifer Hoffman, I'll make sure you regret this after your manager comes,” Kagern said in a serious tone, his voice volume raised a bit high because of the anger.

“Make me regret? Are you going to make me kneel in front of you? Ha! I can even kowtow to you and lick your shoes if you are able to book a suite in this hotel. Ha! Ha!”

Just as Jeniffer finished saying these mockery words, another voice, so sweet and familiar, spoke from behind.

“Sir, how can we help you?”

Kagern turned to look at who it was, only to find a pair of ocean blue eyes staring at him.

It was Bingle Spears, the lobby manager.
