Tanya’s suggestion wiped the smile off their faces and even the king’s cousins looked away in discomfort. Although they were unhappy with King Reginald’s laxity and indolence, they would never imagine supplanting him with the help of his own daughter.

While the others were too nervous to speak, Marquis Sullivan decided to break the silence.

“What you are suggesting is nothing short of high treason. Conspiring against the crown to overthrow the reigning king is a crime punishable by death,” he said.

Tanya stepped closer to the table and looked him in the eye. “I think I need to remind you that as a Marquis your duty is not only to remain loyal to the crown but to protect and safeguard the interests of its subjects as well. And sometimes, the courtiers need to protect the king from himself.”

“And do you think the loyalists will agree with your methods?”

“I do not care about pleasing the loyalists. My allegiance lies to the people of Valaria and Goddess Ishani is my shield. She will show

For God’s sake, there are women here! Keep your dogs away from us!”His friend, the young Lord Rasher Desmond, soon joined in. “Lord Lamier is right. We are guests here, and such behavior is disrespectful.”“Simmer down, son. His Majesty’s safety is at stake here, and we do not know if the shooter is still out there or not,” Marquis Desmond said, putting his arm on his son’s shoulder. The atmosphere in the grand hall remained tense as the nobles whispered among themselves, trying to come up with different theories regarding the identity of the shooter.Although Marquis Desmond’s and Marquis Sullivan’s families were close, the two had never seen eye-to-eye on matters of the court, especially those involving military policies and issues of national security.Since they were two of the most powerful nobles at the court and represented two reputed houses, they tried their best not to air their conflicting opinions in public, but by now, their supporters and close allies had already figured out they had contrasting ideologies. The undead invasion had dealt the final blow to their relations as they were unable to reach an agreement on the matter. When Tanya and Ezra returned from the palace, Count Gressil was already waiting for them in the living room of the mansion. News of the king being attacked had already reached the Count, and he was eagerly waiting for more information. After changing into casual clothes, Ezra and Tanya narrated all that had happened at the ball, including their discussion with the rebel faction headed by Marquis Sullivan and their little rendezvous with Esmeralda."There are many gangs in the city that would like to see the king dead or replaced. But it takes guts to send an assassin after him,” Count Gressil remarked, stroking his beard. “I would wager it could be the work of the Bleeding Roses or the Black Nightshades.”Ezra had heard about the Black Nightshades, but the mention of this new gang called ‘Bleeding Roses’ piqued his curiosity. Tanya looked equally clueless about it all. “You mean to say there are multiple gangs operating within Magaravia? How is that possible?”“You will be surprised t

The Wind Rider soared through the blanket of morose gray clouds, and the world below soon disappeared into a hazy blur. Ezra looked on to catch one last glimpse of the capital as it was swallowed by the morning fog.Flying over the walls of the great city, the airship picked up speed as Zala turned a knob to fuel its magic flames with crystal dust. Being so high above the clouds kept the airship out of harm’s way by preventing the guards and towers from detecting it. And its silent engine ensured that it was quieter than a bird in flight. With the wind on its back, the Wind Rider sailed the sky like a weightless ship, its bulbous frame drifting through the clouds and bobbing up and down as the pressure kept rising and falling with each little turn of the knob.As the Wind Rider soared over the barren peaks of the Marauder Mountains, Ezra caught a glimpse of the treacherous pass snaking across the rocky ridge. It was here the old kings of Valaria had held back the elves during the ear

Ezra narrowed his eyes on the Tower of Corruption as Zala turned the knob and dropped two sandbags to reduce the drag and take the airship higher. The tower erected on the ground roughly resembled an ancient watch tower with a wooden framework and black stakes jutting out of its sides to make it appear more formidable.A raised platform on top served as a shooting deck for the Skeletal Archers housed within, and a black gem glistened on its crown, hoisted by two severed human hands crossed at an angle. Each time the gem vibrated, it released a corrupting pulse that contaminated the surroundings, tainting the minds of living beings unfortunate enough to be caught within its sphere of influence.Ezra watched as the vultures circling above fell from the sky, struck by the corrupting pulse. But instead of staying dead, the birds underwent a terrifying change. Their bones burst out of their chests, and their beaks turned black and grew larger. Every feather on their body became coated with

The Vespid Swamps had always been notorious for their terrifying wildlife which included several kinds of deadly reptiles and amphibians. It was the reason why most people chose to avoid going anywhere near it.Glenn would have preferred to take the longer route and go around the swamp, but the two roads on each side were guarded by Towers of Corruption.Although the airship could fly above the clouds to avoid detection, the magic crystal powering it had expended most of its energy, and trying to boost its power and increase the altitude again would slow the airship down and prolong their journey. To shorten their travel time, Glenn and Zala had decided to take the quickest route by flying over the swamps. However, this treacherous path also brought them closer to the monster lurking in the depths of the tarry black bog.As the Wind Rider approached the Vespid Swamps, Ezra leaned over the railing and looked below. • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   The Garnock Encounter

With half his face obscured by the shadows, he whispered in a cold, unfeeling voice, “I need you to tell me something, Lord Ezra. Was it all worth it? Is this what you had hoped for?”The winds howled around the dark shrine as Vorus raised his crooked finger, lifting Ezra higher and tightening his grip on his shackled body.“Answer me, my Lord. Did Ishani help you vanquish the darkness? Do you still believe in her light, or has your faith finally deserted you?” he hissed like a viper coiled inside a dark pit. Ezra clenched his fist and parted his lips to speak. “You haven’t won yet…and you never will.”Vorus’ face darkened, and his eyes gleamed with all the malice festering inside his soul. “So…defiant. So…naïve…even in the face of death. But your words are as h

  • Cruel forgiveness

Lord Lucius breathed a sigh of relief but still kept his sniper trained on Ezra. “You know, the good ones don’t always win. This is a cruel and unfair world. But at least you tried,” Lester scoffed in his arrogant voice as his war axe grated against the wet floor like a long-handed scythe. “Your father was too self-righteous for his own good. He should have just taken the hint and stepped down while he had the chance. It would have certainly saved us all the trouble of killing him.”Those cruel words stung Ezra’s heart. Once again, he was reminded of that fateful day when he had lost everything. But instead of lashing out and cursing Lester, he remained as calm as a monk.“My father trusted you. We thought you actually cared about the people of Aranor. But you really just care about filling your own pockets,” he spoke in a cold, emotionless voice.Lester chuckled and grabbed his war axe with both hands, raising it above his head. Ishani has abandoned our world,” Marquis Desmond spoke in a cold voice, his eyes glued to the colossal brute glaring at them.“Run back!”“We can’t kill that thing!”“Move!”Panicked voices rang out across the battlefield as the Imperial Swordsmen ran back, fleeing from what looked like certain death.Swish! The Primal Demon swung its burning meat cleaver, slashing a wide arc through the terror-stricken crowd and slicing the swordsmen in half.Blood and guts splashed out in the air as horrified screams echoed into the night. With each swipe of its flaming cleaver, the demon mowed down dozens of terrified soldiers who tried to run away.“Summon Spectral Companion!” Count Gressil called out to his Spectra

  • All hell breaks loose

Outside the walls of Stonewell, the Imperial Army was nearly spent from the endless fighting. The ghouls and resurrected skeletons kept coming even as the soldiers killed them in hundreds. “I don’t think we can hold them back much longer,” Marquis Desmond relayed in his hoarse voice, his throat sore from shouting commands and organizing his troops. “These things just keep coming. There is no end to their numbers.”“Don’t give up just yet. Ezra needs us to hold the line and keep them distracted,” Aurelia replied, firing a firebolt from her musket. It burned through five packs of ghouls infront and cleared a path to the Infernal Gates. “Those Lich Kings are doing all the summoning. If we kill them, there will be no one left to raise the dead again.”“The problem is getting close to them,” Count Gressil said, riding down from the frontlines. “We tried shooting at them, but they are protected by unholy barriers. Not even my enchanted bullets could get through.”While the three of them wer

Fighting demons was nothing new for Ezra. He had single-handedly vanquished a Flame Demon barely a few weeks back and then held his own against an even stronger Abyssal Demon. However, the Shadow Demon blocking his path presented a whole different challenge. To make matters worse, Vorus had already enlisted the help of a dozen more cultists to empower his spell and prevent the dark barrier from shrinking further. Now, even with one of the dark towers disabled, the spell’s influence continued growing stronger with each passing minute.Ezra could feel his muscles turning stiff as the decaying influence of the dark spell slowly sapped his strength, wreaking havoc on his body. The Shadow Demon noticed Ezra’s hands trembling as he leveled Lord Sebastian’s enchanted musket against his shoulder and took aim. • Rotting away

Destroying the tainted crystal disabled the first dark tower, severing its link from Vorus. With just two dark towers empowering his spell, the dark barrier shrunk back to the walls of Stonewell, weakening in intensity.Ezra breathed a sigh of relief as the decay slowed down, giving him just enough time to drink another Rapid Rejuvenation potion.Although it wasn’t a permanent solution, the magic brew helped Ezra buy just a little more time for himself.“One down. Two to go.” As Ezra looked outside, the shrieking of wyverns alerted him. The dark ones had heard the explosion and were now circling the skies around the tower.Flying out of there was only going to land Ezra in more trouble, so instead of taking the quick way out, he jumped down onto a broken ledge and rolled onto the rubble to cushion his fall.It wasn’t the smoothest path, and it tore Ezra’s jacket and bruised his legs, but he managed to get out of the tower before the necro bats swarmed in through the hole in the wall.E

Vorus’ mastery over dark magic, combined with Stonewell’s advanced technology, allowed him to amplify his spell, increasing not just its area of influence but its power as well.Encased inside a dome of decay, Stonewell remained impervious to all attacking forces. The Imperial Army fighting outside was forced to back away and adopt a more defensive approach as the dark barrier expanded, engulfing a good quarter of the vast plains.Even the elves under Flavius’ command ran back to escape the effects of the spell.Ezra, however, had no choice but to push through the city while struggling with the constant life drain. Every second he spent inside the dark barrier leeched an hour from his life, making him age unnaturally.Although Ezra had only been inside Stonewell for a couple of minutes, he could already feel his limbs growing stiff and his skin turning wrinkly and soft.“Why don’t you just attack and kill Vorus directly? Why go through all the trouble of sabotaging the dark towers and
