2025-04-25 17:25:42Chief Lambert’s face was covered in sweat, “How is Benjamin related To James Sinclair? What have I gotten myself into.” He thought.
“Mr. James, I will let him go immediately. Please, don’t report me to anyone. Just give me a few minutes, and you will get a report of his release; if you want, I can drive him personally to wherever you want.”
“Just let him go, and make sure he doesn’t have a bruise on his skin or else you would be a dead man before morning.”
Just as the call ended, Chief Lambert paced into his office. His hands trembled in fear and panic.
Mr. Davis and Snake watched him as he hurriedly walked past them; they could tell something was wrong.
“What’s happening?” Mr. Davis asked.
“I am letting him go,” he hurriedly replied.
Mr. Davis frowned as he narrowed his gaze at Chief Lambert. “What do you mean by you are letting him go? Do you have a death wish? Have you forgotten how much we paid you for this?”
“I would return the money with interest; I don’t want to lose my job.” Chief Lambert uttered.
Mr Davis slammed his hand against the desk, “You shouldn’t try that; he is not living this station. I paid for him to be sent to jail and all you do is come back to tell me you are letting him off the hook. It can’t happen.”
They couldn’t comprehend what was going on; a moment ago, they were making plans to send Benjamin to prison and after the call, Chief Lambert was planning on letting him go.
“What’s going on?” They thought.
Without any word, Chief Lambert left his office. His eyes scanned for Benjamin and he found him sitting by the side, with a plain expression.
“You.” He pointed the officer closer. “Uncuff him and let him go.” He said with a shaky tone.
The officer didn’t bother questioning, he uncuffed Benjamin. “Gather some men, take him back to his house. Make sure no harm comes to him or else you will lose your job.” He warned.
The other officers couldn’t understand what was happening; earlier, their boss was showing hatred for the young man and now is acting as if he had been threatened by someone to let go of Benjamin.
Nora watched the scene unfold, she smiled inwardly. She thought it was Nathan who had ordered Benjamin’s release.
“You see, I told you. Nathan is a good man. You just got released a few minutes after he went to meet with the chief.” She mumbled.
Benjamin replied, “Nathan, couldn’t make the chief this unease. I guess you should ask him when he comes out.”
“Stop bluffing, Benjamin.” She snapped, “I know you are jealous that I have moved on with someone better, someone who was able to pull off a few strings to get you out. You should be thankful, who knows what would have happened to you.”
“You don’t know what I am capable of doing?” Benjamin intoned.
“You should be on your knees when Nathan comes here. He just saved you from going to jail and you should be happy he helped you.”
Benjamin watched as the officers who had been rude to him earlier now acted respectfully. He knew something was amiss. His phone buzzed, as a message notification came into the phone a few minutes after he got it.
“I am sorry, I can’t make it there. Please, let me know when you are at home.”
Benjamin smiled as he was escorted by three police officers outside the police station.
Mr. Davis and Snake walked out of the office, their faces gloomy and filled with rage.
“What’s going on if you can’t do it? You should have informed us about it and not embarrassed us like we are nothing.”
Chief Lambert glared at Mr Davis. “This is more than I could explain. Don’t get me involved in anything that has to do with Benjamin, I don’t want to lose my job.” He warned as he rushed back to his office.
Nora was left shocked when she saw Nathan. He looked different from how he was earlier. His mouth was still bleeding, and the fingerprint was left on his cheeks.
“What happened to you? Who did this to you? We need to file a case against whoever did this.”
She couldn’t tell how someone who went inside to get Benjamin released came out looking dishevelled. Nathan had refused to utter a word, he was scared that Mr. Davis might decide to change his mind. He couldn’t tell how Benjamin got released but he knew whoever called Mr. Lambert wasn’t a small name in Morristown.
The man made Mr. Lambert to change his decision and made his mind raced in fear.
Nathan gripped her, “We need to go,” Nathan voiced out.
“No, we need to report this. Where is the chief he needs to know about this.” Nora voiced angrily.
Nathan shook his head, he knew what was going to happen to him. He wouldn’t want to face another humiliation. “I will explain to you everything that happens, let’s go.”
Nora hesitated for a moment, before finally letting go. Just when they were at the entrance. A sharp voice called out from behind.
