Nathan felt his heart sink deeply into his stomach; Nora couldn’t understand the tension that was coursing through his veins.

He turned his head, only to find an officer calling Nora to get her phone which she left on the counter.

Nora grabbed her phone and sauntered towards the entrance to join Nathan. They both got into the car and without waiting, Nathan revved the car and zoomed off.

When they got to Nora’s apartment, Mrs Margaret had a worrisome outlook the moment she set her gaze on Nathan.

“What happened? Did you get into a fight with anyone at the station?” She asked with her voice etched in worry and concern.

“No, I slipped when walking into the chief’s office.” He hurriedly spoke.

Nora furrowed her brow; she wasn’t there but from the look of things. The shape looked like a slap; the side of his cheeks was red, and a mark was showing.

Mrs. Margret tossed her gaze toward Nora, who gave her a nod. “We met Benjamin at the station; Nathan, being a gentleman, thought about helping him out, only to return with bruises.”

Her face turned crimson, “You shouldn’t have stepped in to help that loser. He doesn’t deserve any help from us.” She said her voice laced with disdain.

“Nathan is a good man If it was me. I would have allowed him to be sent to jail.” Jackson, Nora’s brother mouthed.

Seeing how they were all talking about him, he took the opportunity, “It’s fine, I am not angry. I did what anyone in my position would do.”

“You are such a good man; I never thought I would ever find someone as kind as you; you always look out for others.”

Mrs. Margret was full of praise for her soon-to-be son-in-law. “You didn’t only bail my son but you showed mercy for that pathetic son of a nobody.”

“It’s always good to be good; I believe with what I have done, I have earned enough respect from everyone.”

“Mom, you should have witnessed the scene the moment Nathan went into the chief’s office. He came out immediately demanding for Benjamin to be released.” Jackson said.

Nathan knew it wasn’t true, he couldn’t tell how Benjamin got released but knew it was after the phone call the Chief had with the unknown figure. He is taking the credit.

Nora had felt different, her mind raced as she thought of the moment the chief bowed for Benjamin and how he was escorted out by some officers. If Nathan was truly behind it, the process wasn’t supposed to be different from that of her brother, where they were asked to make a payment, but Benjamin wasn’t bailed but was set free.

Mrs Margaret called her daughter out of her reveries, “You should thank him for helping us bail your brother.” And then she turned to Jackson with a furious gaze. “Why did you hit the old man? What if he had died? Do you want to go to jail? You are lucky, Nathan used his influence to get you out.”

Earlier, While Jackson was on his way home. He met an old man riding a scooter. He wanted the man to park elsewhere, but the man was reluctant; Jackson got angry and drove his car towards the man. It hit the man and he fell.

The old man was rushed to the hospital, while Jackson was arrested.

“Mrs Margaret, the young man said it was a mistake and not the intention.” He paused, “You should know I would never allow anything bad to happen to anyone related to Nora.”

Nora was flattered by his words, she smiled, yanking all the thoughts off her mind.

“Thank you for helping my brother,” She muttered.

“It’s nothing. We are all family, and this is what family do for each other.” He responded with his shoulders raised higher. “I will take my leave now,”

“I was preparing something, you should wait so we can all eat together.” Mrs. Margaret insisted.

Nathan shook his head, he had many things running through his mind. It was getting late, and he was scared not to run into Mr. Davis or Snake. “When next I come, I will wait, but for now, I have other important things to catch up on.”

He hurriedly left the room, as he drove home.

Mrs. Davis kept a stern face, as he paced back and forth. He couldn’t comprehend what happened at the police station. They were moments from sending Benjamin to jail before their plans were foiled.

He was confused about what happened. The chief of police had refused to utter a word about why he let Benjamin off the hook.

Snake clenched his jaw, and his heart tightened; his reputation hung in the air.

Just as the two men were lost in thought, The door swung open revealing Terry Davis. He ambled inside with a plain demeanor.

“How did it go? Did you succeed in sending that bastard to jail?” he asked but both men kept mute.

“Snake, Dad. Someone should say something.”

Mrs. Davis glared at his son, without uttering a word.

From their expressions, Terry could tell things didn’t go as planned for them.

“He was set free?” Snake mumbled.

“How and why?” Terry voiced out angrily.

He listened intently, as Snake began uttering how everything played at the station. Terry’s jaw dropped, He couldn’t believe the Chief would do such to his father after being paid a huge amount.

“Dad, what are we going to do? We can’t keep shut on this. That clown humiliated me; if you don’t do anything, people will see us as weaklings.”

Mrs. Davis kept mute while calculating his movements. If someone had called the Chief of Police to free Benjamin, it would be Elder Maxwell.

He knew the Long family weren’t a small name in Morristown, and to bring Benjamin down, he would need to do it without them knowing.

“Snake, gather your best men. We will attack when the time is right.”

Terry stepped in, “Father, I want you to get me Ariana. I want her to grace my bed.” He said with his voice firm.

Mr. Davis’ eyes turned red, as his blood boiled hot. His hand connected with Terry’s jaw, and he fell off. With his hands placed on his cheeks.

“You fool, this is happening because of you. Instead of coming up with an idea, you are here making rubbish comments.” He exploded in rage.

“I am sorry, father. I didn’t mean to sound that way.” He apologised.

Snake left the room, leaving father and son to sought things out.

Mr. Davis wasn't happy with the way his sons were handling things.

“If you continue this way, you will never get the chance to become my heir. I sent you to the best school in the world to study and save the family, but here you are, getting me into more trouble.” He spewed.

“If you had listened to me when I told you to approach Ariana, this wouldn't have happened.”

His face was contorted in rage and disappointment. His sons hadn't lived up to expectations since returning home.

“Get out, and make sure when next you come in here. You are coming with a solution.”

For a moment, she tried to control her breath, her eyes darting from Benjamin to the bottle of water. “I am sorry, I was just thirsty and needed to wet my throat.
