~Lauren~We sat across each other, the atmosphere charged and I was certain I'm not the only one feeling that. Neither of us was willing to touch the feast of meal laid out on the table. Instead we sat in complete silence. The silence was heavy, almost weighing down my shoulders. I tucked a stubborn strand of my hair beneath my ear the umpteenth time, annoyed that it wouldn't stay in place. I felt his intense glare on me which made me become aware of myself. My body tingled when I sensed perspiration grinding down my chest onto my cleavage. His eyes followed. I shifted in my seat, Heaved a last deep sigh then broke the silence.'You should eat something instead of ogling... at me.' I grabbed a fork to stab a piece of fish ruthlessly.'I don't think I want to stop ogling.. if that's what you now call a mere, harmless stare' Sarcasm laced his words.I bit insides of my cheeks, fighting the embarrassment that accompanied his denial. 'I don't appreciate your 'mere, harmless' stare. They a
~Christian~The weather today was chilly, cold. It was getting close to winter so it was understandable. I shut my car's door quite aggressively. Today, I drove down alone, giving my driver the opportunity to have the day to himself. I entered the small pub, warmth embracing me right from the entrance. The small furnace at one corner of the pub provided heat to the place.Virtually seeking the chairman, I finally found him in a dark corner where he continually rocked his chair, delightfully watching the scene in front of him. His eyes lit a sparkle when an equally old man offered to pour more Turkish coffee into his cup. I realized over the few months that that was his favorite. He smiled, nodding approvingly of the act. I finally walked up to where he sat, giving him the privilege to notice me in the pub. It was a room filled with elderly men and women. They seemed to be enjoying the solo music being sang by a couple in the center of the room. 'There you are!' his eyes disappeared i
Christian~Getting to deal with Lauren's obstinacy the whole week was beyond exhausting for me. I've tried every possible measures to persuade her to move into the new apartment I got on a lease just for her and Aiden's sake. I had personally went in search for this apartment, furnished it with the necessary equipments and utility. It was a shame that she kept rejecting it without remorse. 'I don't need you to pity us, Christian. We're doing very fine here' those were the words that replied mine the day I told her about it.I tried to convince her, say everything enough to convince her I didn't do it for pity but for the safety of Aiden and her but it was all to no avail.
Christian~I tried to make her understand, say everything enough to convince her I didn't do it for pity but for the safety of Aiden and her but it was all to no avail. My hard glare was on one of my men as he reported the case of a robbery that took place two houses from hers. They had robbed the family occupying that particular apartment, shot the father who possibly tried to fight back.. he wasn't killed but he sustained injuries. '.... Fortunately, her house wasn't invaded. So she's safe' he completed his statement.A breath I didn't realize I was holding escaped my lips and my tensed shoulders relaxed.'Tried convincing her to move after the scenario?''Not yet, sir.'.I inclined my head positively in acknowledgement before dismissing him. There was only one thing I can do to make her succumb to my demands. I picked my jacket and exited the office......The head of school invited me into his office, regarding me with utmost respect. His eyebrows quirked in obvious astonishment
~ Lauren ~I wasn't the only one disappointed at the chauffeur's News. Aiden also was. 'He apologizes for not being able to make it too and permitted me to bring you both to the venue'. He added politely. I glanced at Aiden who apprehensively gripped the hem of his jacket. He really wanted Christian around. 'Why is he not able to make it? He promised me he will come around...' he whined'Something really urgent came up, Mr. Palmer. He had to attend to it.'Aiden inclined his head, still very unhappy. 'This way, please''Sure.' I held his palm reassuringly and followed the Chauffeur into the car. Christian also sent one of his guards who's supposed to make sure we're safe throughout the time spent outside. That was generous enough. One thing I really wanted to know is why he couldn't make it. He had a soft spot for Aiden and he isn't a type who'd break off appointment at the last minute. We were half way to our destination when the man beside us answered a call. Whatever was being
Lauren ~I kept my eyes glued to the walls, searching for the portrait I found the last time I came here. My doubt was knocked out of me, allowing me believe once again I was hallucinating the last time. Mrs Forbes had asked to meet her in this mansion once again. I was reluctant about it till she promised giving out tons of information I needed. Somehow, she managed to find out about my biggest desperation and she was ready to help me find out how to get answers. That was all she held against me. If only there were other options, I would have opted for it.'Ma'am' the short, stout, maid called my attention to her. She had that smile again, the one showing her lost front teeth. 'Mrs Forbes is in her drawing room, she wants to meet you there.'While she tried to lead me in, an unannounced visitor came in. Unannounced is an inappropriate word though, considering this is also his house. We locked glances for as long as I can remember before his intimidating figure came closer to mine. I
~Christian~'Why. You're Still willing to keep it from her?!' Linda continued, a look of mock sympathy etching her facial features. As calm as I tried to play, my inner self was burning with rage, curiosity and the urge to do something that'll make her keep shut. Whatever she's got in mind, I'm not sure about it but I'm sure it's not going to end well.Lauren came closer, stepped in front of me, locked gazes with me. I could see them... Her pale face... The tears lurking at the corners of her eyes, the way her lips trembled without control. She was hurt, pained about something I knew nothing about.. 'Tell me, Christian. Please' she pleaded, positioning my palm in hers, squeezed them gently.. 'I promise not to be mad at you' My heart sank. This was one of the things I've always wanted to protect her from.. getting hurt.I cupped her face. 'Lauren. I'm not sure what you're talking about or what this is all about. Her intentions are not pure. I told you to stay away from her'She shudd
~Lauren~Shaky hands held onto Christian's shirt sleeve for support. I didn't trust my legs. They wobbled terribly and I was sure they'd give in without support. My resolve was broken, all my guards crushed to the ground. This was the most unexpected occurrence. She was his mother. All the time I have been in a relationship with the son of a woman I've brought myself to despise. I didn't care if my apprehensiveness was obvious through my actions. I wanted to know what really happened ? Why the woman left over eight years ago.. why she took away Jordan Palmer, my baby brother. A part of me felt betrayed. Christian knew everything. Why did he keep it from me? Was that why he avoided telling me about his mother all the years we were together? Because he knew.. he wanted to protect her. Or Maybe not. I never told him about having another brother asides Aiden Palmer. It was one of the secrets I kept from him and the rest of the world. I always blamed myself for loosing him, afraid I would
