Chapter 7

A few hours passed and Karina's grandfather had begun to do well although he was still unconscious, his pale skin had begun to get back its original color.

Karina held his hand in her palm as tears of joy flowed down her cheeks. She was more than happy that he would remain with her for a while.

"In a few days he will be awake and healthy as before," Michael informed Karina who nodded happily and was unable to speak because of the joy she was feeling.

"Thank you so much, there are no amount of words to show how happy I am for what you have done," Karina said between tears as she stared up at Michael who nodded at her.

"You fool, even without those herbs, he would be fine… he just needed time for it to get deeper into his body so that he could get cured," Ryan snapped at Michael while trying to ruin his image in front of Karina. "You only did that just to be praised and steal my win."

"Steal?" Michael chuckled briefly, he guessed that something like this would happen after healing Karina's grandfather. Ryan was nothing more than a mischievous man who would do anything just to get what he wanted which made Michael dislike him even more.

"I could never stoop so low as you did today." Ryan glared at him furiously.

"Stoop low? I saved a man's life that you almost ended so you should remain silent." Michael frowned at him getting more irritated by Ryan.

"Are you sure, there's nothing wrong with the antidote you made?" Michale asked Doctor Ryan who hitched his breaths and flared at him.

"Just what are you getting at? Of course, I believe that the antidote worked." He glared, his face had turned red and his fists clenched in anger. "Why do you make a fuss out of nothing… such a bummer."

"If you do then why not drink it as it won't have any effects on you." Michael scoffed while staring innocently at Doctor Ryan who took a step back in hesitation, his eyes widened as he bit his lower lip.

"What…what are you trying to prove?" He scowled at Michael and turned to Karina who remained silent and was more concerned that her grandfather would be well soon enough. "I don't think involving yourself with someone like him is a good idea." He said to Karina.

"There's no need for you to say that, the basic thing is that my grandfather is okay and I'm satisfied with that," Karina said frowning but Ryan wasn't done just yet.

"Nonsense! I'm ready to expose this fool." Ryan continued to spit out as Michael stared at him with a calm demeanor.

"Doctor Ryan, there's no reason to pick up a fight." Karina tried to calm the situation which seemed to be getting out of hand.

Ryan snorted and turned around to see Michael who seemed to be absent-minded and staring at Karina’s grandfather, he quickly took out a needle from his pocket and aimed it at his neck but Michael who was well aware of his tricks dodged it swiftly. The needle had been embedded with strong poison that would be fatal if injected into the human body, causing the person to die almost instantly.

Michael hit him on his shoulders and interlocked his legs causing him to land on the floor with a thud. He had thought of letting him go but this was the height of it.

"What do you think you're doing?" Karina stood up from the stool she sat in and walked towards them.

"Let go of me you rascal."Ryan snapped but Michael wasn't about to listen to him as he was fed up with his petty tricks.

Michael threw the needle in front of Karina for her to see and she gasped.

"What is this?"

"This idiot tried to stab me with that just now." Ryan immediately lied against Michael who was no longer shocked by what he said and chuckled darkly.

"Isn't it time to keep the promise you made since you want to act all smart?" Michael tilted his brows while staring at Ryan whose eyes widened. "Or are you scared that your antidote would kill you?"

"Quiet!" Ryan shunned him. "I would not listen to you."

"If you're too scared to take your poison then why not let me break your hand as the alternative? It's not a hard decision to make." Michael shrugged his shoulders smiling mischievously.

"Do you know who I am to treat me this way? I would have you jobless and homeless in no time."

"Your threats mean nothing, if nothing you should beg for mercy," Michael told him coldly, sending shivers down his spine. He grabbed one of his hands and no matter how Ryan tried pulling away he wasn't strong enough to do so, fear gripped his heart and the thought of losing his hand made him sweat. His entire career would be over if his hand is ruined.

"What do you think you're doing?" He yelled, his voice encircled in fear. "Please I beg you don't do it… you know we're both in the same profession so please have mercy on me."

He continued to beg but Michael turned deaf to his pleas, he had given him more than enough chances to redeem himself but he chose the hard route and needed to pay the price.

He got on his feet immediately stomping on Ryan's hand causing him to scream in pain.

"Ahhhh!" Ryan yelled and lifted himself to his feet.

"What have you done you fucker? I will make sure you regret this" He yelled and without waiting for a response after seeing the dark gaze in Michael's eyes he quickly sprinted out the door.

Michael wasn't moved by his threats whatsoever and turned his gaze to Karina who was in total shock of the whole situation but snapped out of it.

She turned to look at Michael with a big smile on her face. "I have no words to show how happy I am that you were able to save him."

"It's no big deal." Michael waved it off. "I'm just glad that he made it in time… aside from that you need to find whoever poisoned him because I'm quite sure that person won't give up and do it again which may end his life."

Michael instructed her when his phone began to ring loudly in his pocket, he excused himself and pulled out his phone from his pocket and saw the caller ID was Lucy, he tilted his head wondering why she had called, and immediately answered.

"Hello?"

"Help me…please."
