Chapter 6

"What are you saying?" Karina's eyes widened in surprise. She turned her head in surprise and gazed at Ryan in the hope that he would be able to know what was going on.

"You scum, what are you spitting?" Ryan glared at him in anger. "Do you think you're better than I am?"

"That's not the case here, the herbs you mixed are incompatible and would create another poison," Michael explained but Ryan wasn't interested in what he was doing and was more bent on humiliating him. "Why else do you think I would stop you from using it?"

"What?" Karina gasped, just when she thought it would be over, it felt as though it was getting worse. She clasped her hands together mumbling prayers hoping he would survive this.

"How do you mean 'Mr. I know it all?" Ryan mocked him tilting his brows while staring at the plate containing the herbs. "This procedure is unique and taught to me in medical school, unless you went to how would you know it's the correct one?"

"I didn't mean to mock you but a man's life is involved here and there's no way I could let you harm him." Michael pointed out. "Adding these two herbs I would create a more toxic poison, added to the one already in his body, this man would end up dead almost instantly."

Michael was very vast in the knowledge of poisons in fact at a single glance he could tell what the poison was and what it could do and could come up with an antidote almost right away.

"This man cannot consume what you're about to give him so didn't think about doing such," Michael added staring at Ryan who felt somewhat intimidated.

"What are you saying you quack! Are you underestimating my skills?" Doctor Ryan stomped his feet wanting nothing more than to punch Michael in the face but still maintained his demeanor. "I would not have you talk that way to me!"

"You only have to listen to what I tell you, there's no need to raise your shoulders when a man's life is involved." Michale frowned his lips and stared at Karina's father.

"This is no time to quarrel." Karina came between them trying to settle the fight she could foresee as their eyes were constantly ablaze, she turned to look at Michael who walked around her jar and pointed to the herbs he was talking about.

"This shouldn't be in his body… make another antidote," Michale suggested but that hurt Ryan's pride even more, he clenched his fists tighter and bit his lips, there was no way he was going to lose to someone like Michael.

"What nonsense are you saying? I know that this would be good for him!" Ryan defended.

"It's okay you two, right now why didn't we give Ryan here a chance?" Karina suggested just to dispute the little quarrel, although she was more scared that she could lose her grandfather but she was ready to gamble.

"You know what Miss Karina, I'm willing to drink it myself if this doesn't work out," Ryan stated. "But of course, it would work out."

"And if after this he does survive." His eyes darkened as he walked up to Michael with an intimidating gaze. "I will ensure that your hands get broken so that you won’t have any more chances to put other patients’ lives at risk."

"Well, you have a deal then." Michael agreed almost immediately with a smirk on his face knowing quite well what was going to happen. Ryan stared at him furiously and clenched his jaws.

"Whatever you say…" Ryan shrugged.

"Alright, go ahead then." Karina beckoned him and folded her arms in her chest while watching him closely.

Ryan turned around and began to pour the drink into her grandfather's mouth and waited for a response which was almost immediately, his face instantly became red and he threw up white foam from his mouth.

Karina's eyes widened and fear became evident in them as fear gripped her, she was shaken and she stared at Ryan desperately as though he could do anything to help out.

"What… what is happening?" She freaked out, Ryan was in shock and his hands trembling as he stared in confusion at what was going on.

"Do something already!" She screamed, her heart raced in fear as her legs felt heavy, sweat dripping down her face as she prayed nothing bad was going to happen to him.

"What's going on?" He pondered out loud. The old man had begun to convulse badly and had blood bleeding out of his ear and nose which was a different reaction from what was to occur. Ryan's hands trembled as he stared at the patient before him wondering what to do.

"Do something, save him!" Karina grabbed Ryan by the shirt, trying to snap him out of his shock state.

"Be calm miss, it must be that his body is trying to get rid of the poison, do not fret!" Ryan tried to convince her but Karina wasn't at all satisfied, she was scared and wanted him to say something else or do something else to help the situation. His words didn't hold any value to her at the moment as she cared more about his actions.

"Are you sure about this?" She was skeptical about the explanation he had given her as she continued to stare at her grandfather who didn't seem to stop at any moment. More concerned she stared at Michael who remained silent, made his way to the table where the herbs were placed,

"What are you going to do about it? I can't let him die you know." Karina turned to him desperately hoping he could reverse what was happening. Her brows arched in concern as she stared at him.

"There's nothing he can do, he's a quack!" Ryan huffed. "Let's just wait and I assure you that your father will be alright." Although Ryan spoke boldly he was crippled with fear that his remedy would not work and the old man's life would be in danger.

"Let's see what I can do," Michale answered simply and continued what he was doing. "No distractions ease, it's a delicate antidote and needs to be made with care." He added as he quickly made the antidote and made his way to the patient, gently pouring it into his mouth and immediately the convulsing stopped.

"A miracle?"
