Chapter 5

"The only person who gets to decide whether I leave or not is Miss Karina, it would be best if you kept quiet." Michael finally spoke which angered Doctor Ryan. Karina sensing the tense air between the two finally decided to speak up as every little time counted.

"There's no time for any of this… doctor Ryan why don't we give Michael a chance?" Karina was not ready for the bragging and sizing up as all she yearned was for her grandfather to open his eyes once more. "Both of you could join heads together and know what to do in this situation."

"Competing with a man below my level is far beyond any sort of humiliation." Ryan spat bitterly, adjusting his glasses while staring at Michael in disdain. "But why don't we give this clown a chance, let's see just how much he can play." He spat at him.

Ryan walked past Michael and began to test his patient with a stethoscope and other vital parts, he nodded his head and turned to Karina who leaned against the wall silently staring at Ryan as he made findings of what seemed to be the problem.

"Well, from what I observed… he's been poisoned terribly… it's a miracle he's still holding on to life." Doctor Ryan informed Karina who gasped in shock. She had no idea it was this complicated and intense.

"What?" She immediately sat on a chair to ease her aching knees and calm her racing heart, she was trying her hardest not to be too tense. "How could that be?"

Michael walked towards her grandfather and felt a pulse in his neck, he also felt the fever emanating from the man and turned to Karina.

"It's a unique poison I must say, one that was used in the Korean Joseon times…. I never thought I would treat this kind of case." Michael admitted while pursing his lips and still observing the old man lying on the bed unconsciously. "It's a rather strong poison that slowly blocks your veins, closing all blood supply and air supply until your last breath… it’s quite slow and excruciating that I can't possibly think of the pain he must be going through." He added.

"Oh dear! What should I do?" Karina was filled with worry as she paced around the room nervously, she couldn't bear to lose her grandfather right now as he was the only family dear to her and cared so much about her. "What about an antidote?"

"Finding an antidote would take time as it is very rare and hard to find, I doubt he would be able to make it before it is found." Doctor Ryan spoke, staring at Karina in pity, and turned to look at Michael with a furrowed brow as though expecting him to contradict what he said.

"He's right," Michael confirmed while taking a closer look at Karina's grandfather again

His skin had become pale and dark veins were appearing which was evident to Michael that they had little time left and no modern medical skills could help deter the situation.

Doctor Ryan was even more irritated by Michael thinking he was still trying to pretend to be medically enlightened. "We could try a possibly faster way then." He offered to gain the attention of both Karina and Michael.

"What then do you need, I would make it available," Karina informed him while calling out to one of her security men standing right outside the door.

"Let me make a list." Doctor Ryan brought out a pen and small booklet from his pocket and wrote all the things he needed, tore the sheet, and handed it over to Karina who took a quick glimpse of it and gave it to the security telling him to go get it while handing him a credit card.

Moments later the security man was back and placed all the things on a working table, mainly herbs, and began to prep it. "At least, this could stabilize him before we get the main antidote." Doctor Ryan assured Karina who was already at ease that her grandfather was going to make it.

"Just do whatever you can to make sure he lives." Karina shrugged, not interested in whatever means he used. Micheal wasn't sure Karina was making the right choice by allowing her grandfather to take the herbs prepared by Doctor Ryan but said nothing so as not to be seen as an overconfident person.

Ryan glanced at Michael who continued to stare at the herbs that were brought in.

"Instead of standing there like a buffoon with no medical skills, why not help me out so we can cure him, or are you scared that your secret would be released?"

Michael remained silent and continued to watch him do his stuff, Ryan was annoyed again that Michael wasn't at all bothered by him and turned away with a glare on his face as he began to pound the herbs in a mortar and added some liquid herbs before turning it into a place and was ready to apply it on his skin.

Micheal could not sit back and watch anymore, he clenched his fist as he knew if he didn't make his next move then there was going to be havoc, he didn't care if Ryan would be pissed off and think he was trying to bring him down and shrugged it aside as it was better than losing a life.

"Stop!" Michael rose from the chair he sat in and walked up to Doctor Ryan who rolled his eyeballs in disgust as Micheal surged toward him like a know-it.

"What is it this time!" He thundered

Micheal took the herbs from him and turned to Karina "This is wrong, the herbs won't cure him" he blurted out dill with a straight face.

"Are you joking or what? Do you even have any idea what you're saying?" Ryan snapped at him angrily.

Doctor Ryan scoffed as he veered toward him "Stop spilling nonsense and hand over the herbs at once!" He demanded, but Ryan didn't listen to him thinking of what way to end Michael because he was like a thorn in his flesh right now.

Micheal shut his eyes with his fist clenched as he gritted his teeth turning to Doctor "Are you trying to kill him!"
