Chapter Sixty

Reed’s first question was urgent: “What happened? Where is everyone?” Reed's face softened with relief as he rushed to their side, enveloping them in a tight hug. His gaze shifted to Mecca and her team emerging from the forest like avenging angels. “What’s up, boss?” Mecca’s nod acknowledged their survival.

Sarah’s tears flowed freely. “It’s just us. Anna and Mark are nowhere to be found.” Her voice broke, and Margie pulled her close.

Reed’s jaw clenched. “We will find them,” he vowed, his voice firm with determination as he squeezed Sarah's shoulder reassuringly then his fingers brushing Sarah’s tear-streaked cheek. “We won’t leave anyone behind.”

Mecca stepped forward, her eyes unwavering. “How are you guys?” his voice filled with gratitude for their help, Reed’s concern mirrored hers. The bond forged in battle was unbreakable.

“We’re good, boss,” Mecca replied. Her team stood tall, their resolve unyielding. “Daisy and her brother?” Reed’s question hung in the air.
