Memory lane

Twelve years ago.

She was ten and he was five. That year was one of the best years she had lived and known when growing up as an adolescent. She has never been conscious of her surroundings like that year. She was happy, sad, grateful, loved, and recognized.

Everything ended that year too. It began with her mom constantly coming late to the house. Reeking of alcohol, ruining the things that come her way. Frightening her and her brother while her father tried to shield them from her.

Lucy had been a mess, instead of growing into a loving mother towards her children, she became their nightmare whenever Martin wasn't around to protect them from her.

It was just an act of refreshment as she called it that developed into a habit that ruined the whole family. Lucy derived happiness from gambling and drinking herself to stupor and anytime Martin mentioned it she cursed him for making life difficult for her.
