Arthur pushed her wheelchair towards the front porch, ignoring the look of disdain the guards gave Luna.
“Are Ms Byrne and Mr Gallagher around? I’d like to discuss a few things with them.” Arthur stated. “So the nuisance has returned, huh? The master is inside.” The guard turned away disinterested, leading Arthur and Luna inside the house. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, pushing her into the house. Alexander and Clara looked up from their discussion, the relaxed expressions they wore shifting to one of disinterest when they saw Luna on her wheelchair, with the doctor behind her. “After all the promises, you weren’t able to do anything either. As expected.” The Gallagher family head stated, sharing a look of disappointment with Clara. He called for his grandsons, Anthony and Aaron, the first was to bring his chequebook and handle paying Arthur while the second was to take his would-be wife away. “This is why you’re incompetent. You give your word then not only are you unable to fulfil the promise you made, you still have the gall to ask for your payment. Disappointment.” Alex clicked his tongue in disgust while Anthony signed and handed the cheque to Arthur. “You seem to misunderstand, Gallagher. Luna Rhyfel isn’t yours to claim.” Arthur said with a smirk, tearing up the cheque and throwing it at the startled Gallaghers. Luna and Clara both paid little attention to the enraged shouts of the Gallagher family head and his grandson, Aaron. They were instead shocked as to how Arthur, a physician who was simply hired to help Luna with her condition, knew of her origins. “You can stand now, Ms Luna.” Arthur leaned forward with a smile, reassuring the somewhat doubtful Luna. Inhaling silently, she rose to her feet, instantly shutting the enraged man and shocking everyone present, except Arthur. Clara rushed to Luna, holding her by her shoulders and inspecting her body while being surprised. “Luna, my dear, what happened to you?! You’re standing again.” She avoided the gaze of the Gallagher’s and turned to Arthur for reassurance, only returning her gaze to Clara afterwards. “Arthur has been treating me for the past week, mother. He had specialised medicine given to me so I’ll never need to use a wheelchair again. I can walk now.” Luna choked out, the realisation of her current position dawning on her once more. Since after the accident, her value in Clara’s eyes had severely diminished and at a point she began to view Luna as a liability. Hugging her tightly, Clara cried out, “I’m sorry I couldn’t support you better, I should’ve been by your side through it all. Mother is sorry okay? Come, let’s catch up. I’ll let your fiance have you later.” Clapping with a chuckle, Arthur stated, “What an amazing display, truly heartwarming. But as I said, Luna Rhyfel isn’t yours to claim.” “And just who the hell do you think you are?!” Aaron barked angrily, grabbing a hold of Arthur’s shirt roughly. “A-Aaron please! He’s the man who helped me!” “And that gives him the right to speak to me in the manner that he did, right?!” Alexander shouted, turning his agitated glare from Luna to the stoic Arthur. Glancing coldly at Aaron, Arthur said, “You have ten seconds to let go of my shirt, kid.” “This guy, it seems you don’t get it.” Aaron growled angrily, tightening his hold on Arthur’s shirt. Luna stepped forward with tears in her eyes, “Sir, Aaron, I’m sorry about everything but please let him go, he’s the sole reason I can walk now, please.” “Watch how you speak to your future in-laws, you brat!” Clara yelled angrily, striking Luna across her cheek. “I have had enough of it all! You claim to be my mother but you’ve never had my best interest at heart!” Luna yelled teary eyed. “That’s the problem with young ones these days, they think they know far more than the ones who’ve lived longer than them, foolish lot.” Alex clicked his tongue in disgust, taking a seat while not averting his disdainful gaze from Luna. “Time’s up.” Arthur said coldly, grabbing Aaron’s wrist and twisting it in an awkward angle. He bent backwards with his face contorted in pain. “Let go!” Shoving him backward, Arthur held his shocked gaze with a cold one, ignoring the comments of the others present. “This drama has gone on for too long so I’m here to make a declaration and if the rest of the Gallagher’s are any wiser than this fool here, you’ll oblige. Are we clear?” Noting that the onlookers were too shocked to speak, he reached for the briefcase he had brought along with him when he first arrived. Tossing a few papers at the feet of both Alexander and Clara, Arthur stated, “You are both aware of the amount of dirt on your hands, if you don’t want everything you’ve built up to crumble at this instant, you’ll end all contact with Luna.” Anthony stepped forward the calm demeanour he wore from the beginning morphing into one of anger, “You have been talking a lot of rubbish since you got here, just who do you think you are to make demands of the Gallagher’s?!” Deciding it was time to reveal it, he replied calmly, “My name is Arthur Rhyfel and I am Luna’s one and only family member, you might consider me her brother.” They couldn’t believe their ears, especially Luna and Clara. After all, as far as they knew, Luna had no more remaining family members alive. Yes, they were aware that Arthur had escaped on the night of the attack but she didn’t know if he had truly survived and she hoped for years that he would be alive and well. “And as her family and with those gifts of mine to you, I have the right to end your marriage preparations. So that will be all.” He walked to Luna, taking her hand in his and guided her out of the house. “Wait!” Alexander yelled, rising from his chair with the support of his cane. “It seems you have forgotten how you should address your benefactor, Gallagher, or do I need to spell out how much I am helping you by not making the contents of those files public?” Arthur gave him a disinterested sidelong glance. Sighing tiredly, Alexander replied, “You can’t just do this, even if she’s your family or not. Bring us a partner with greater potential or business than Clara Byrne and I will see to it that the Gallagher family never bothers you again.” Arthur was about to reject the proposal, after all he had no reason to agree.to such. But the all too familiar chime of the system and the translucent window that read; [Accept and complete Gallagher's quest.] “Very well.”“Sir, you called for me?” A suited man approached the silently sitting Arthur.“Yes, do you recall the McHenry pharmaceuticals’ CEO? The one who’s daughter was rescued by our crew during one of our missions?”“Yes sir, I believe his daughter was one of those in the relief team.”“Call him, I want to have a meeting with him now.”“Roger sir.”Even if he wasn’t on the battlefront, the war god was not someone those who knew of him dared to trifle with. Especially if it was someone who owed him a favor. Not long after, a man in his fifties arrived in his condo, his head lowered as he approached Arthur who sat quietly in his garden, nursing a cup of tea.“Cap-Captain…I didn’t think I’d get to see you again.” Liam McHenry stated, wiping the sweat off his forehead.“Oh, quite the way to greet your benefactor, CEO?” Arthur stated, shooting him a sidelong glance.Muttering an apology, Liam lowered his head.McHenry Pharmaceuticals was the biggest and the most successful in the entire region. In the nation, there were seven great families.Amongst those seven was the Burton family, a family so powerful they were debated to be amongst the top 3 in the seven great families. This day marked a day commonly seen in families like the Burton’s, where they hosted banquets to flaunt their wealth or new acquisitions. It was a practice carried down from patriarch to patriarch since their founding and the current patriarch of the family, Nathaniel Burton was yet to end the tradition. When a family as powerful as the Burtons held occasions like this, even the ones who plotted against them were in attendance, much less other notable people who allied themselves with them.It was a party of the rich, by the rich and for the rich.Simply being in attendance was seen as a status symbol.Another means the attendees further asserted their dominance was the extravagant donations made during the party.A man in a flashy tuxedo with a mic in hand stood in the front of their grand living room th
The Burton’s villa was a mess.Gathered in the formerly empty hallway, the police inspected the crime scene and a detective questioned the family.A moment later, a yell from the deceased Nathaniel Burton’s wife broke the silence.“What are you doing wasting your time here?! Find that man immediately!”The detective who wore a brown trenchcoat adjusted his hat, replying calmly, “We are doing the best we can, ma’am. There are too many mysteries about this that we need to uncover before we can make any arrests.”The doors swung open and a middle aged man in a decorated military uniform walked inside the house, his cold gaze sweeping across the room before coming to rest on the detective and Mrs Burton.“Where have you been, Ethan Burton?!” Mrs Burton roared in anger.“I am sorry, mother. I was supposed to be present for the banquet but I had to settle things at the base first,” Ethan lowered his head slightly. The detectives and family members explained the situation to Ethan, filling h
Luna gulped nervously as she walked into the imposing building before her with Arthur and Anthony by her side. Since after her accident, she hadn’t explored the world as much as she wished to. Most of her visits outside were restricted to where her foster mother, Clara Byrne, wished for her to go and the occasional visit to the hospital. And even after her recovery, Luna had spent most of her time in the Gallagher villa, after all she was turned into a bargaining chip between her only family, Arthur and Alexander Gallagher. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t well versed with business interactions. A majority of her errands given to her by her foster mother, Clara Byrne, were centred around business deals and meetings. As they arrived at the front desk, the secretary looked up from her laptop. “How can I help you?” “We’re from the Gallagher’s. We’re here to make a business deal with the company.” Arthur explained, ignoring the look that Anthony gave him. “Is that so,” she stared at
It all started when Arthur remained behind in the office with the general manager. While sitting there idly, he noticed the distraught look the man before him had after their interaction with James McHenry, Liam McHenry’s second son. While Arthur contemplated going to check on Luna, the all too familiar system window popped up, alerting him of his new mission.Turning back to the general manager, he asked, “Where is James McHenry’s office located?”…James glared at the man who barged into his office. Not only did a nobody like him have the audacity to enter his office without permission, he then threatened him.“Who the hell do you think you are?” James asked angrily, stalking towards him.Ignoring him, Arthur walked to Luna and helped to her feet, his cold gaze landing on Anthony afterwards.“This piece of trash!!” James yelled angrily, grabbing Arthur’s arm and attempted to yank it back.He was confident in his power, after all not only was he, James McHenry, the son of the owner o
“But father?”“I said leave!” Liam yelled, cutting James off. He turned to Arthur, Luna and Anthony with a polite smile, “Let’s continue this discussion in my office, shall we?”Everyone present except Arthur and Liam were confused at his behaviour. No one expected the great CEO of the McHenry Pharmaceuticals to act in such a polite manner to people deemed nobodies by James.Luna felt a bit uncomfortable. Her experience with high ranking business men was unpleasant to say the least. They were usually snobbish or had this air of superiority around them, it was something she had noticed even in her foster mother. But Liam McHenry at that moment was the exact opposite and she couldn’t understand why.Squeezing her hands together, she reassured herself. Having engaged in several business deals of different sorts, Luna was more than ready for this and there was no way she was going to fail Arthur who had given her the chance to free herself from the bondage that were the Byrne and Gallagh
Soon they arrived at the Gallagher’s villa.Since her experience with the Gallagher’s, Clara had come to the realisation that Luna would make an outstanding bargaining chip with whatever family she wished to associate herself with. She was beautiful, intelligent, knowledgeable and the best part for Clara was that the crippled state that Luna was in that had narrowed her options was no longer there. While the Gallagher’s were good associates of hers, Clara was not going to limit herself with them when she could aim higher. And fortunately for her, Jon Burton, the last son of the soon to be Burton patriarch, had shown an interest in her.So as her luck would have it, she would not need to risk ruining her relationship with the Gallagher family while still having an opportunity to fulfil her wish.Another strange coincidence was the fact that Jon was an old friend of Aaron Gallagher. The life of a playboy was the major thing they had in common, but unlike Jon, Aaron’s family did not giv
Jon couldn’t believe what was happening. Not only did some nobody from a forgotten family stand against him and embarrass him, he also dared to mention what had become the Burton’s family’s biggest failure. While Jon wasn’t as bothered by Nathaniel Burton’s death, how dare the no named trash before him mock him?Jon stood up angrily, ignoring the pieces of the broken vase by his feet. “Get on your knees and beg me and just maybe I won’t have my father grant you the most horrifying death you can think of!”Hiding his smile, Aaron approached Jon. “There’s no need to get so worked up my friend, trash like him always think themselves better than they actually are. Taking care of him will be no problem, heck you’ll be doing the world a favor.”Glancing back at Luna, Arthur noticed her clenched fists and jaw as she watched the entire scenario.Jon sat down with a huff, shooting a death glare at Arthur. “You’re dead. Nothing and no one will save you.”With a chuckle, Arthur stepped back to s
