Chapter 3

He offered his hand to her, saying, “It’s time, Ms Luna. Let’s give it a try.”

She sat on her wheelchair on the porch afraid of that moment for multiple reasons.

He took her hand in his and gave her a gentle tug, to which much to her surprise, she was able to move her legs forward.

“H-how?” Luna asked, stumbling forward before being caught and supported by Arthur.

“Your legs are fine now, you just need to get used to walking again,” Arthur said with a gentle smile.

Five years ago, the accident she was involved in rendered her a cripple. Doctor after doctor that visited told her she would never walk again and after a long time she had no choice but to believe.

But now thanks to Arthur’s miracle medicine, she watched her feet take step after step and tears of joy spilled out of her eyes without control.

She clutched his shirt tightly and cried on his chest, after all the dark and gloomy life she had led for years finally had a dazzling light.

Arthur hugged her tightly, offering as much comfort as he could while he muttered, “It’s okay, you won’t have to ever cry again.”

“Let’s take our morning stroll together shall we?” Arthur asked her with a gentle smile, to which her reply was to take his hand.

They discussed topics that they usually did but two major notable differences was that not only did Luna now walk beside him, she was far happier than she had ever been since she set foot in Arthur’s home.

“I won’t lie, I’m a bit hesitant to return home.” Luna revealed bashfully to Arthur.

“Then there’s no need to hurry back, I’ll delay your return for as long as I can so don’t worry about it and relax.”

Their walk ended soon after and he escorted her back home where he had some of his maids watch over her.

As he took his seat in his study, the all too familiar system window appeared before him with two quests; [Return Luna Rhyfel to her true family] and the other which seemed to pique his interest even more, [Find the perpetrators of the incident and bring about their downfall.]

While the system was being as vague as always, he was familiar with the incident that was mentioned in the second quest.

It was the attack on his family, the very one that led Luna and he to lead the lives they led.

He was already planning to have his revenge but seeing as a system quest gave him even more motivation, after all if he was going to destroy them why not raise a few levels at it.

But first, he was going to handle the Gallagher’s and Luna’s foster mother, Clara Byrne. Calling in one of his subordinates, he said, “Get a car ready, we’re heading to the Gallagher’s villa.”

“Yes sir,” he curtly replied and hurried out of the room.

But just as he left an older man stepped inside the room. He dressed casually but one notable thing was his military dog tag.

“It’s been a while hasn’t it, captain?” The man said fondly, placing some documents on his study table.

“There’s no need to tease me, I am no longer your captain and you were one of the team members who guided me on the battlefield.”

Arthur turned his attention to the files on the table, asking, “Is this what I asked?”

“Yes, it is, everything you need to know about Clara Byrne and the Gallagher family’s dirty dealings.”

“Thanks, we should get a drink sometime later but I have to leave now.” Arthur said, seeing his former colleague out.

Arthur was now equipped with the arsenal he needed to cut off Luna from the ones who made her life as horrible as it was. But this was merely the first step, and he had decided that a direct confrontation was better.

“Call Ms Luna for me, we have somewhere to go too.”

He stood by the car waiting and then she stepped out of the house, her flowing sundress emphasizing her bright demeanor.

“You said we’re going somewhere?” Luna asked, somewhat confused at the sudden invitation, as this was something that hadn’t happened since she stayed in Arthur’s house.

“Don’t worry, it’s a surprise.” He said with a gentle smile, but unlike before Luna felt a subtle chill in his tone and she couldn’t help but worry.

The Gallagher’s couldn’t have cared any less about Luna Rhyfel. She was simply a bargaining chip between them and Clara Byrne, her foster mother who was also one of the most talented businesswomen in the region.

That was why the head of the Gallagher, Alexander Gallagher had arranged for his youngest grandson, Aaron Gallagher to marry her, after all his only worth was his ties to the Gallagher family.

So in an attempt to get rid of the nuisances of both sides, they organized the marriage between the crippled foster daughter of Clara Byrne and the black sheep of the Gallagher family.

Alexander Gallagher had two other grandsons and a granddaughter from his first son and Aaron’s father, David Gallagher.

But unlike their youngest, they were far more diligent in upholding the family’s way and name.

From the first to the last they were; Anthony, Mark and Emelia.

Anthony was a high ranking shareholder within the family, and was even rumored to be the heir to the Gallagher fortune should Alexander pass away.

Mark, though not as favored as his older brother, still held enough influence both within and outside the Gallagher territory.

And finally, Emelia who though seemed the most innocent of the siblings, was the most cunning.

But even though most of the family shunned Aaron, their interactions with Luna were filled with far more disdain than his.

“Leech. Disgraceful. Shameless. Nuisance.” Those were a few of the titles the Gallagher’s had associated with her.

While her foster mother was well aware of what was happening, as always her business was of a higher priority to her than Luna’s feelings.

“We’re here, let’s head inside.” Arthur stepped out of the car, leading the shocked and slightly terrified Luna back to the Gallagher villa.
