Chapter 14

Cassie looked at Bruce with those watery eyes, she turned to look at Jonathan, hoping that they could feel a little pity for her. But the two brothers had already gotten used to her, they knew she could fold and change like a chameleon just to get whatever she wants. They just weren't buying it.

She pushed her chair back and stood up, feeling the weight of humiliation pressing down on her. She almost let out a sob as she tried to keep her head high, but the shame was almost unbearable. As she turned to walk away, she heard a voice from the next applicant, what the applicant said didn't just stop Cassie in her tracks, it completely boiled her heart with anger and fury.

“Go away, loser!” the female applicant sneered, her tone loud enough for the entire room to hear.

It was worse for Cassie because everyone heard and they laughed at her.

“You piece of shit!” Cassie Cursed under her breath. She whipped around, her eyes narrowing with fire. “What did you just call me?” she demanded, her voice trembling with anger.

The woman was a tall and impeccably dressed brunette, she just looked at Cassie and smirked.

“I asked you what the shit did you just say to me?” Cassie asked again, even more angry.

“You heard me. Loser. Get out of here, man user.” She chuckled, adding, “Or should I say Mistress Divorce? That suits you better.”

Cassie’s face burned with rage. She took a step closer, and this time, her voice was sharper. “You’ve got a lot of nerve for someone with makeup that looks like it was done by a blind artist.”

The woman’s smile faded as she scoffed. “And you’ve got a lot of nerve walking in here with that cheap excuse for a dress. Did you buy it on clearance at the dollar store?”

“Shut up Bitch! You can't afford a dress like this!”

“You mean the dress you bought from scamming another man of love?”

The exchange escalated quickly. And Cassie wasn't enjoying the words coming out of that lady's mouth. She seemed to know way too much about her, and why wouldn't she know? The news of Cassie the man user was already trending.

“Why don't you go meet your dad in prison to give you a job? Or you look too cheap even to be accepted in prison?”

Cassie’s words also came out like venom. “At least I don’t look like I stole my outfit from a 1980s costume party.”

The woman rolled her eyes. “And at least I don’t go around ruining men’s lives and acting like I’m the victim.”

Cassie’s anger boiled over, every single word the other woman said hurt her like a dagger to her chest, it was almost as though the woman had already planned all those punchlines. And before Cassie could stop herself, she gave that woman a very dirty slap across the face. ‘Clap!’ The sound echoed through the room, and everyone gasped.

“What the fuck!”

The brunette applicant didn’t hesitate also, she slapped Cassie back even harder, and before Cassie could react, the brunette lunged at her, grabbing her hair, and the two women started wrestling right there in the middle of the room. Hands flew, hair was yanked, and the shouting grew louder.

“Oh shit someone's gotta stop this.” Bruce shot to his feet, his voice booming. “That’s enough!”

But the women weren't going to stop. Everyone wanted to give the last slap.

“I said that's enough” Bruce motioned toward the door, shouting, “Security!”

Within seconds, two men in black suits rushed into the room and pulled the women apart. Cassie’s hair was disheveled, and her face was flushed with fury. The brunette was equally disheveled, her makeup smudged and her blouse torn.

“You're so lucky I would've exposed your saggy boobs to everyone in this room right now!” Cassie shot at the brunette.

“They would've loved to see it, fool. Guess what, my boobs still stand unlike yours cos a thousand men keep sucking on them.”

Bruce couldn't let them continue shooting those words at each other in an official environment like that. He turned to the security telling them to “Get them out of here.”

The security guards dragged the two women outside, their protests drowned out by the murmurs of the other applicants.

It was already raining and Cassie stormed into the rain, her chest heaving with a mix of anger and humiliation. She made her way to her car, slammed the door shut, and buried her face in her hands. “Shit!”

Tears streamed down her cheeks as the rain pattered against the windshield. “What have I done?” she whispered to herself, her voice cracking “What have I fucking done? I let myself so low to fight with some dirty, stupid stinking irritating… Shit! Shit!” She couldn’t believe how far she had fallen. She had once been so sure of herself, so confident in her ability to manipulate others. Now, she was a shadow of her former self, sitting in the rain, regretting every cruel word because every single word she'd been saying recently only lessened her chances of ever getting anything better from Bruce, Jonathan or anyone else who knew her.

Her phone buzzed and it immediately pulled her out of her thoughts. She sniffed and wiped her tears, fumbling for the phone “I hope this is not some stupid message from all these broke men.”

The message was from one of the remaining members of Salvator Construction Company.

The message read: "Emergency meeting. Everyone needs to be there."

Cassie hesitated before typing a quick reply. "On my way.”

She knew that meeting wasn't going to be about anything good. The company was on its last stage of downfall since Bruce left. Things just weren't moving.

She started the car, the sound of the rain muffled by the engine, and drove to the location of the meeting. In her mind, all she could think about was questions, a whole lot of questions. What could this meeting be about? What was left of the company now that everything had gone wrong?

A few minutes later, she arrived. But things didn't look so good, the atmosphere inside the boardroom was tense. The remaining members were seated with very cold and unwelcoming expressions. Cassie greeted them with a small smile. “Good evening, everyone.”

But no one responded. Not even a single acknowledgment.

That's all she needed to confirm that this meeting wasn't going to end well.

Immediately she sat down, Marcus who was one of the senior members of the company, stood up powerfully. He looked straight at Cassie not caring how he sound, he asked her “Why the fuck are you such a big cheater? You are the biggest cheater to ever exist!”

“What the hell is going on here?”

“Shut the fuck up!”
