Heir

Jamole kept pinching himself just to be sure he wasn’t dreaming. Swan Pablo kept ringing in his head and he began to recall all about Swan Pablo.

Swan Pablo was the richest tycoon in Antipolo who had avarice of group of companies in real estate. He was the CEO of the prestigious Swan Real Estates and a few months ago he was worth two billion dollars. Swan Pablo was a fat cat everyone wanted to reckon with.

Anitpolo never knew much about Swan’s private life and family even everyone thought he never had family. And never in Jamole’s life had he thought the disable girl he proposed marriage to was Swan’s daughter and only child.

“I am Susan Pablo, my dear,” Susan intoned, all smiles, as she sat next to Jamole in the Lamborghini.

“Oh my God! So this is true. What is about happening to me? What fate is about to befall me? Susan Pablo? Swan Pablo’s daughter?” Jamole sounded in his mind.

Seeing the cloud of surprise on his face, Susan explained yet further, “As a matter of fact I am the only child of Swan Pablo.” She locked gaze with her beholder and pulled out her hand to have a handshake, “Once again nice to meet you, my fiancée.”

Jamole hesitated to reply, “Nice to meet you, too. But …but,” he stuttered because he was still astonished to make such a personality his wife. A deep breath. “But I thought you were a beggar. Does Swan Pablo have family? I can’t believe you are his daughter.”

Jamole resumed gaping at Susan. Susan let a contagious smile across her face. “Everyone thought my father never had family because of the private life he led. In fact I am elated over the fact that Antipolo never knew much about us, save the truth that my father is the richest tycoon in Antipolo.”

“But why did you say so?” Jamole queried coldly, “Can I please know who you really are and why you stayed on the road side and begged despite being the daughter of Swan Pablo?”

Susan snorted as she stared thoughtfully in the space, her eyes dimmed.

Jamole perceived the color that flushed across her face and instantly he knew sorrowful memory had swept through her, “You look worried,” said Jamole, peering at her.

Tears surged down her chin, “Six years ago mom and I had a fatal car accident which took her life and left me crippled after I lost my limbs. Ever since then I had experienced countless heartbreak from men who came for the money and not for true love.”

Jamole shook his head in pity and listened keenly.

She continued. “So I decided to disguise as a beggar on the street to find true love and my husband, especially when father told me any man that would be my husband would be the heir to his empire…”

“What! Heir?” Jamole had barely let her finish her words when he exclaimed. He gagged his mouth with his palms.

Susan shook her head in confirmation. “Yes, heir. You see, the auto crash had left my father devastated and down with partial stroke and neither of us could control the Swan Real Estate anymore. Father mandated me to find a husband who can be his heir and control the hem of activities at Swan Real Estate.”

“Oh my God!” Jamole snapped once again. He barely could wink as profuse sweating ensued on his brow and armpit. This couldn’t be happening. Heir?” he resounded, and gaped at her. “Who am I to be the heir to Swan Pablo’s unlimited wealth?” Jamole sounded emphatically, tell me you are pulling my legs. Tell me you are joking.”

Susan rubbed on the Arabic Coral Gold ring Jamole used to propose to her. And Jamole’s gaze settled on the ring. “Didn’t you propose marriage to me with this ring? Despite the dashing ladies that flooded Antipolo, you decided to go for a crippled beggar like me. Who am I o be our wife?”

Jamole fought back the warm tears that built in his eyes and he tossed his head in doubt. “This can’t be true. This can’t be happening to me.”

Instantly the fleet of cars came to a screeching halt.

Jamole looked out the window and noticed they were parked before Gold Wise Link Store, the same jewelry store from where he bought the Arabic Coral Gold Ring for his ex-wife.

“I want you to look good before father sees you. Diamond necklace needs to graze your neck and wrist and after that we will drive to a boutique and change your cloths and the shoes.”

Their gaze settled on his worn out shoes which had lasted as long as he was created. Jamole’s gaze came upon the jewelry store and memories of what Stella and her boss did to him struck him with hurt. He sniffed back tears.

Hastily, securities rushed to the Lamborghini and opened the door and bowed before Jamole and Susan as they alighted.

Hours later when Susan took Jamole drove to Swan Villa, he couldn’t help but stare around the splendor of the edifice.

“You are welcome to our villa,” Susan said and led Jamole to the ball room wherein Swan Pablo had been since he broke down with ailment.

Well-suited Caucasian hefty security manned the room when they got in. Upon seeing Jamole and Susan they bowed and let them come face to face with Swan who looked sickly in bed.

“Daughter?” Swan called through grinning face.

“Father!” Susan called in like manner and rode her wheel chair toward him.

“Who is he?” Swan asked, pointing at Jamole who was donned in sky blue tuxedo, sleeves, diamond necklace and bracelet and trousers over pair of Rome Styled Shoes. “He looks handsome,” added Swan.

Susan smiled at Jamole. “Oh father, this is my fiancée I talked about. His name is Jamole Cadry. He is the chosen heir,” replied Susan all smiles.

Swan gazed upon Jamole once more and shook his head in confirmation. “Is he capable of pioneering the affairs of Swan Real Estates?”

Susan gave a firm nod. “Yes, father. Jamole is not just smart but hard working. If we entrust Swan Real Estates to him he would make us proud.” She intoned and let a huge smile cloud her chin. “Besides we are in love with each other.” She clenched her hands to Jamole’s.

Swan coughed and snorted. Although he was down with sickness and declining in age, yet he felt elated to have Jamole as his heir and son-in-law. He raised his hand and one of his securities came forth with a briefcase and opened it.

“In there you will find a credit card for two billion dollars, the memorandum of association and sole proprietorship documents. Once you sign them you automatically become my heir and must abide by the rules. Once again don’t let us down. As you can see, I am declining and sick. My daughter is crippled. We need you to control this company aright.

Promptly Jamole fell upon his knees and broke down in tears. He looked at Susan, “Tell me this is not happening dear.”

“Perk up, Jamole. You are fortunate,” said Susan, “Only promise to make us proud.”

Through tears Jamole replied, “I…I, promise.”

“You are welcome to Swan Real Estates, Jamole,” Swan Pablo said.

Jamole wept into his palms and sobbed greatly.

The journey just begun…
