Aaron struggled to adapt at first to his new status.
His grandfather had been very insistent and vehement on him learning everything he possibly could within a very short time frame and it was now Aaron who understood why the old man was in such a hasty rush. Half a month after that fateful night that turned his life around, he was standing in the garden where his parents had been buried but it wasn't his parents he came to mourn this time, there was a fresh grave.
The last relative he had was gone and although it was short-lived, the sort of love and care his grandfather had showered upon him made Aaron feel like he belonged somewhere. The old man had helped him develop himself and Aaron knew who he was and how powerful he had come to be.
This was his dynasty, the consortium was his now, but there was an emptiness in him as he stared at the embellished grave of his grandfather. The old man's last words before he had given up the ghost reverberated in his head,
"Aaron, you've had it tough in this cruel world, and now you have to be tough too. Seize opportunities by the horns, if you're making a decision and you're sure that it's the right one, do it with no hesitation, and take that decision ruthlessly regardless of who gets affected...Never forget, that everyone here is loyal to you.
Adolph, Adolph will never leave your side unless under the circumstances of first and that goes for everyone...the world is yours...You haven't learnt enough my dear son...You haven't and you can't, there's no limit to what you can learn so keep learning...And never forget the blood flowing in your veins..."
Aaron closed his eyes and looked up, taking in a deep breath as he did, he became lost in the moment. He felt one with them, his parents he never knew and his grandfather he had only known for two weeks.
Aaron was alone again, a lonely orphan, but he didn't cry, the owner of a consortium couldn't cry, he had to be as tough as a turtle's shell. His grandfather had told him just how ruthless his countless oppositions could be, Aaron knew he had to be tougher than them all.
He felt a soft, delicate hand on his broad shoulder and he knew who it was instantly. It was Helen, his assistant whom he had become very fond of over the last two weeks. Helen was Adolph's granddaughter and just like her grandfather had been the personal assistant to Mr. Churchill, his grandfather, she took up the position of the PA of the new Mr. Churchill, Aaron.
The first day he met her, he took a liking for her instantly because she was intelligent, quick-witted, and very open-minded. She was also very attractive but that wasn't what drew Aaron to her.
They bonded well, she was palpable and easy to understand and Aaron didn't refuse when Adolph suggested the idea.
"Mr. Churchill, we have to leave now." She said in her soft, yet metallic voice.
"Already?" Aaron asked without opening his eyes.
"Yes, the meeting is scheduled for the next five hours. The drive to Kingston could take up to two to three hours and you'd need time to rest before the meeting."
Kingston City, Aaron thought, the same city that had treated him so harshly, the city that had chewed him and spat out his ruins, he was going back. But he was going back different this time, he was a better man, no, that wasn't accurate enough. He was one of the best, richest, and most powerful men in the world right now.
"Alright, Helen." He said, finally parting his eyes open. "Let's go."
Helen had been very helpful to Aaron as time went on, all he needed to know about the consortium, she showed and educated him on it. She had an answer to each of his questions and that had Aaron wondering if she had been studying the affairs of the consortium from a young age. He was glad the first branch of this huge conglomerate he was visiting was in Kingston, at the back of his busy mind, loomed a cloak of revenge.
Though at Kingston it was just a branch of the huge consortium, it was one of the richest and most powerful companies in Kingston. A fleet of cars was already parked in front of the massive mansion, waiting for the new boss, the last surviving Churchill who owned it all. The sun smiled down at him, unlike the gloomy rain that had battered him on his first night here. Aaron took it as a symbol of his bright future and it spelled doom for all those who had done him dirty.
Meanwhile, in Kingston City, at the company's branch, there was tension and anxiety. Mr. Cannon, a manager of the company Aaron had been unjustly kicked out of, waited in the conference room. There were various representatives of other companies, this was going to be a huge deal for the company if he could secure it. When it was his turn to negotiate with the shareholders and the manager of this huge company, an announcement was made.
"Please all staff should move to the lobby on the ground floor with immediate effect!"
A loud voice came booming through all the speakers in the seven-story building and the negotiations with Mr. Cannon were completely forgotten as everyone rushed to the ground floor.
"What the hell is happening? How could they abandon a business meeting so casually?" He wondered with a tinge of annoyance.
He had missed his chance and he wasn't sure he would get a golden opportunity like this again, but his curiosity was also burning and he decided to find out what the whole madness was about. The employees spewed out of the lobby and were standing outside, impatiently waiting for the arrival of the new boss.
They chattered away with excitement and curiosity, "Who was the new Mr. Churchill?"
"I could have sworn they had no surviving member!"
"Did you attend the grand burial?" Those were the discussions that went around.
Finally, Aaron's eye-catching convoy of cars came to a synchronized stop in front of the company. Silence, absolute silence as the door of the only limousine in the convoy was held open by a guard. Then Aaron slowly emerged and Helen, who had been waiting, joined him at his side. Awes and gasps of disbelief went around the employees, they couldn't believe how young their new boss was.
"Damn! He's so dreamy!"
"Oh my, I'm going to be freaking drooling!"
Aaron's presence carried power and that affluence that went with the powerful, he walked confidently and that was what enthused everyone. Mr. Cannon sprinted at the new, young chairman of the company and he squinted hard at him.
"How come he looks so familiar?" He wondered, picking up his memory furiously. It was hard for him to recognize Aaron, he looked way better than he did two weeks ago, and he didn't wear rags anymore. What made it more difficult for Mr. Cannon to catch a glimpse of recognition were the dark sunglasses that perched on Aaron's nose.
He shrugged with disappointment and the only thing on his mind was the tedious procedures it would take to set up this deal.
There was a certain man that attached himself to Aaron and Helen, no one else came close and Aaron started wondering who he was. In the elevator, escaping the curious eyes of the boisterous crowd below, the man had left them as the bodyguards refused to allow anyone else to enter the same elevator with the new boss and Helen. "Who was that man dressed in a flashy suit that walked next to us?" He asked Helen as the elevator rode up. "Oh, that was Mr. Davis, he is the CEO of this branch." She replied. "He's a very determined worker and he's as strict as hell. You'll wonder how he has managed to handle over seven hundred employees under him for the past eight years."Aaron suddenly grinned and asked, "So Helen, how many employees do I have under me?"She stared at him then blew at her cheeks hopelessly, "To be honest, Mr. Churchill, you can't count them, it's impossible." She replied with a charming smile.Aaron laughed softly, this was the life he had always dreamt of. He controlled
Anna and Lucas got out of the car and the first thing that caught their attention was the beautiful car parked some meters away from where theirs was parked. They had never seen this particular car on this street; it was a car that was very rare to spot. It was rare to spot, but everyone knew one of these babies when they saw one, it was a fucking Pagani Huayra! There were only a hundred units of this expensive limited-edition car in the world and it was worth millions of dollars! So who in the world would be driving such a car? They were so engrossed in their curiosity that they didn't even notice Aaron at their doorstep. "Damn, that is some ride!" Lucas exclaimed and whistled. "Let's not look at what we can't get for too long, baby, before we get obsessed," Anna said to him and tapped his arm.It took an effort, but they finally wrenched their eyes away from the car and that was when they both saw Aaron. He had a content look of satisfaction in his eyes as he had been watching t
Aaron walked into his office with a frown on his face, his mind was rowdy with his thoughts. Was Anna going to send him a wedding invite? That would be the dumbest thing to do as they were so ignorant of his new status. "Bunch of fools." He muttered under his breath as he went around his desk. "Yeah, real bunch of fools." A feminine voice permeated through the room, startling him. "Christ, Helen!" Aaron exclaimed, his frown deepening, "When did you walk in and how the fuck did you even hear what I said?" She shrugged, "I have a sleek way of walking in, I have an incredible sense of hearing, plus, I doubt you would have heard me over that cussing." Aaron looked away and relaxed on his comfortable chair. "What's the matter, Aaron?" Helen asked as she sat opposite him. "Who are those bunch of fools?" He stared at her, regarding her beautiful features. Helen was very lovely looking, but she carried this formal and indifferent look every time. This was the only time her face wasn'
Aaron was glad that the meeting didn't take as long as he had dreaded. Everyone around the large, round mahogany desk kept staring at him as if he were an alien. They were all surprised that the new Mr. Churchill was so young. The headquarters in New York was twice as big as the branch in Kingston. With each new property of his that Aaron came across, he became more marveled and intrigued. The moment the meeting was concluded, Aaron rose to his feet and shook all of them. A certain man with a flawless white beard almost touching his chest and equally white hair withheld his hand firmly. "How about you join us for a little celebration we're hosting in honor of you, Mr. Churchill? It would be a pleasure for you to grace the event tonight." The older man said to Aaron. A party? In honor of him? Well of course yes! Aaron kept his composure and just nodded. "I'll most certainly make an appearance tonight, Mr.…?" "Neville," The old man smiled. "Henry Neville."Aaron nodded awkwardly a
Aaron was back in Kingston three days later, it was his best vacation ever, not like he had had any before this one.Helen was a great companion and apart from sharing his bed, she taught him an awful lot about the company. "You need to learn how to shoot a gun, Aaron." She said as they rode in a Bugatti back to his mansion. "Some day." He replied apathetically, with no intention of doing so."You're gonna need it, shooting practice, tomorrow." She insisted and he stared at the deadpan look on her face. "Alright, alright," He surrendered. "But it doesn't mean I'll go around carrying one."She just smirked and said, "You'll get the hang of it." "I won't, I need to go shopping for new clothes." He said, "I'll find the nearest boutique and-” "Christ, you don't need to do anything. Just tell me what you need and I'll have it delivered by tonight." She said, horrified by the idea of Aaron doing his shopping. "I'm my own man, Helen, I do my shopping, okay?" He said."Fuck, still have
Helen stared out the window of her room, lost in thought. Her laptop lay open in front of her and on the screen was a picture of a woman. She was right. Her intuition was always true. She was a trained Personal Assistant and could find out about anything or anyone in a short time. She knew she shouldn't interfere in Aaron's personal affairs. He was her boss. But she and her boss had had a few nights of passionate pleasure, and secret trysts behind closed doors and she couldn't shake the feeling of vulnerability she felt when she was around him. She had come to accept that she was slowly falling for him. She wasn't one to indulge in emotional frivolities. She was a practical woman. And she didn't do anything without a reason. She has had previous lovers but it was just for sex.Nothing else is attached. That was how she liked it. In her world, having a loved one exposed one to too many risks; especially when there were enemies around. Helen had noticed in the past week that her boss
The internet was abuzz. Anna kept scrolling through hundreds and hundreds of stories about the Churchill scandal. She even came across a few pictures of Aaron. Netizens kept reporting and analyzing different possible speculations. The media couldn't get enough of the drama. Her mom and brother were already convinced that Aaron was a fraud and he just wanted to get back at her. But she knew him. She knew he wasn't one to scheme and be sneaky. He was a very honest man. But she just couldn't fathom how he became the heir to a very influential family overnight. Or had he known all along while they were still married? She kept seeing shocking headlines online like; Churchill Scandal: Heir's Humble Beginnings Exposed!""From Orphanage to Heir: The Shocking Truth About Aaron Churchill!""Churchill Family's Dark Secret Revealed!""One's life can surely change overnight" She muttered to herself. She tried to focus on herself. Her wedding was in two days and she intended for it to be perfect.
"Sir, it's not safe out there. You need to go with your guards". Helen had tried, oh how she had tried, to convince Aaron not to attend that wedding. She knew the risks all too well – the paparazzi, the media frenzy, and the lurking threats from his adversaries. But her pleas fell on deaf ears. She couldn't understand why he was so pig-headed. And why was he bent on going to the wedding? She told herself she didn't care. She was just doing her job. "Sir, please reconsider," she had urged him, her voice laced with concern. "It's too dangerous to go alone, without your security guards. You're making yourself an easy target." He had brushed off her worries with a dismissive wave of his hand. "Helen, I can handle myself. I need to be there, to set things right."Alexander had brushed off her worries with a dismissive wave of his hand. "Helen, I can handle myself. I need to be there, to set things right."She watched him leave the mansion, her heart heavy with frustration and disappointm
