Chapter seventy-four

They sat on the porch of the Churchill's Mansion, enjoying the warmth of the late summer sunshine. Aaron was leaning back in his chair, his booted feet propped on the railing. He looked sleepy as he had just eaten a heavy meal, but his alert eyes monitored the toddler playing in the yard while Helen and Tracy were in the house. Presently the two women joined Aaron on the porch, sitting down in big rockers.

Aaron straightened abruptly as Ryan, who just had his one-year birthday fell in the yard. He quickly went to help him up, brushing the dirt from his chubby little legs.

Helen had always had a picture of what motherhood would be like. The quiet mornings in the nursery, the sun slanting through the curtains as she rocked her chubby baby against her breasts.

She scooped Ryan up as he babbled.

"He never stops moving," Helen complained as her son tried to launch himself from her arms.

"He just wants to play" Aaron laughed as he came around to her side and opened his arms. "Come here,
