39. Compelled

"Is this for real? What if your wife comes back?" Eugene asked after she arrived at Roesli's apartment.

The elderly woman removed both of her gloves and was about to greet Roesli when he seemed reluctant to get too close.

Pretending to be hurt, Eugene said, "Why, darling? Isn’t your wife still away?" teasing mischievously.

In her heart, Eugene was truly disgusted with his pretense. However, she couldn't let Roesli take advantage of it without consequence; she had to make him pay for his cunning game.

"Because you've lost your previous job as a maid there, you can continue working here. Surely, it's no more difficult than your position there, right? My establishment is no bigger than the Smith residence," Roesli retorted.

He gestured with his hands to show the size of his house—a three hundred square meter box located on the top floor with access to a private luxurious balcony with an infinity pool and a rooftop featuring a helipad.
