Chapter 07: Lucius' Secret Right Hand

"What are they doing here," Nate thought to himself as he stood up.

"Do they think they can torture me in here?" Nate muttered as he stared out of his jail room.

"Get all the troops ready in the field. We'll meet them when they come!" Nate ordered.

"Yes, sir!" the men near Nate replied. They immediately ran out of the prison to gather all the Dark Crimson members.

Nate himself immediately went out into the field to wait for all his men to arrive. It seemed that the other members of the group immediately stepped aside when they saw Nate's arrival. Soon, hundreds of people rushed towards Nate. Their faces all looked fierce, as if they were bloodthirsty.

"Which group are we going to take over, sir?" asked the largest of Nate's men.

"We will not attack any group. We're just going to wait for our guests to come and attack us," Nate replied as he sat down on a bench.

"You sit comfortably while you wait!" Nate ordered as he told his other men to bring food and drink.

Nate's men looked at each other, not understanding who the guest was. But no one dared contradict Nate's words. Then they spread out around the field and sat down according to Nate's orders. Soon, Boars seemed to rush over.

"Sorry if I'm late, sir," Boars said.

"No problem. How's the enemy?" asked Nate.

"The other two groups seem to be ready, they are also gathering all their members to welcome our attack," Boars replied.

"That's not the enemy I'm talking about. It's the people from Lucius' business group," Nate said.

"I'm sorry, sir. I thought you were trying to seize power from another group on this island," Boars said quickly, afraid to see Nate upset.

"I just heard that these people from Lucius' business group want to meet with you," Boars continued.

"Meet with me?" muttered Nate.

Soon, dozens of heavily armed police made their way to the field. In their ranks were also dozens of people dressed all in black with firearms in their hands. In the middle of the line was an old man with dark glasses walking with the head of the prison guards.

Hundreds of Nate's men, who had been sitting, immediately stood in front of Nate as if to protect him. The police also stopped walking when they saw the vigilant attitude of the Dark Crimson group.

"Nate Crimson! We just wanted to talk to you, not make a scene!" the guard shouted as he looked at Nate.

"I don't know any of them, I've never even seen them," Nate mused, glaring at the old man standing with the guard.

"You guys stand down!" Nate ordered.

"Yes, sir!" replied Nate's men as they stepped aside to make room for Nate to pass.

At that moment, Nate stood up and walked toward the line of heavily armed police. Boars and the rest of Nate's men looked suspicious. If the policemen made any suspicious movements, they would surely attack immediately.

"What do you want to talk about?" Nate asked.

"You really do look like what Lucius told me," said the old man near the guard.

"I don't recognize you," Nate said.

"Lucius deliberately did not introduce me to his family members, all in anticipation of a situation like this," the old man said with a smile.

"I don't have much time. Just tell me why the members of Lucius' business group came to see me," Nate said.

"I came on Lucius' orders. I came with a good purpose, as Lucius asked me to do before he died. He left something for you, Nate Evander," the old man replied as he looked into Nate's eyes.

"Impossible, what did he ask you to do?" asked Nate.

"We can't talk here. The police have prepared a place for us to talk. If you really want to repay Lucius for his kindness, then let's talk together. But if you hate him, then I'm going home," the old man said.

Nate thought for a moment about the decision he was about to make. He was indeed disappointed and angry with the Lucius family for keeping him in that dangerous prison. But on the other hand, he still remembered Lucius' kindness to him all this time, his goal to help Nate was indeed good, even if his family members betrayed his ideals.

"Alright, I'll come with you," Nate replied.

"Sir," Boars said with a shocked look on his face.

"What if they set a trap for you, sir?" asked another of Nate's men.

"If I'm not back in five hours, you can do whatever you want," Nate replied.

Nate's men stopped protesting. Nate then joined the group of prison inspectors and people from Lucius' business group. Nate was put in a cozy room with the old man. It was just the two of them, while the old man's men stood guard outside the room, armed to the teeth.

The old man took out a laptop computer from the case he was carrying. It played a video recording of Lucius lying in the hospital. Next to him was another old man, with several men in black armor standing guard around him.

"Nate. If you are watching this video, it means I have to apologize again. Because you must be unhappy with the actions of my family. I can't believe they would even break their vows to me after I'm gone," Lucius said.

"I entrusted this video to my confidant, Peter Ostwald. I never let him meet you or anyone else. It is to prevent many bad things from happening," Lucius continued, coughing several times. His breathing also seemed labored.

"I have prepared my precious object for you as an apology for bringing your life into a much more painful misery. No one but Peter knows about this precious object. Please accept it, it's my only request to you," Lucius finished his words, the video playback also stopped immediately.

"Precious object?" muttered Nate as he looked at Peter.

"Yes. Lucius always said there was a division in his family since his wife died. Lucius was afraid that his children would fight over his inheritance. That's why he'd been saving fifty percent of his income every month for eighteen years, in anticipation," Peter explained as he closed the laptop.

"A split? They were so united when they tortured me," Nate thought.

"The split in his family has caused his health to deteriorate. He complained a lot when he met me, but that all changed when he first met you," Peter said, looking at Nate.

"He said you helped him cross the street in a sincere and kind way. He also said that you were so considerate that you offered him a meal even though you only had a piece of bread that you bought with your change," Peter continued.

"I didn't know at the time that Mr. Lucius was rich, his clothes were so simple. I just felt sorry for an old man standing at the crosswalk daydreaming. I thought he didn't have money to buy food," Nate replied.

"Lucius has changed since his wife died. He seems to have given up all his desires for the world. He prefers to wear his wife's favorite clothes until they are worn out from overuse. He also doesn't like to use other accessories anymore. The only accessory he always carries is a wooden stick in his hand," Peter said with a smile.

"Since he met you, he has become more cheerful. He even really wants to have offspring through you. That's why he tried so many ways to get you to join his family. In the end, he asked me to give the treasure he had accumulated to you and your future offspring," Peter continued.

"Isn't that too much, sir?" asked Nate in disbelief.

"No, it isn't. This is Lucius' decision. You have to accept it, even at his last moment he asked me to force you to accept everything. After all, this is his last request to you," Peter said as he took out an account book.

"I just feel bad about accepting it. Because I've sworn to take revenge on all of Mr. Lucius' children and grandchildren," Nate refused.

"Lucius wouldn't forbid you. He said he was too ashamed to apologize to you for the way his family treated you. If you want to take revenge then go ahead, Lucius will surely see it as punishment for them for betraying his vows," Peter said as he looked at Nate.

"If you think so. Then I will accept," Nate replied.

"Very well. You can see it now before I give it to you," Peter said as he showed Lucius the account book that would be given to Nate.

"Impossible," Nate muttered, his eyes wide with shock as he saw the amount written in the book.
