Chapter Four: No Sense of Fashion.
AFTER making a deal with Lorelei’s father, Paxton and Lorelei decided to go back to the Villa where they were staying. Although Lorelei’s parents wanted her to stay for the night, Paxton insisted not to. He is Lorelei’s husband and seeing how her parents reacted earlier, he wasn't convinced that they wouldn't hide Lorelei if he left her in their house.
“Can you really get the deal by tomorrow?” Lorelei asked. Her voice seemed to doubt her husband's ability. Especially since she didn't know him well.
In the past two weeks that they have been together, Paxton didn't say anything about his personal life. What she just knew was, he has a limited edition car and a luxurious villa… that's all.
“Don’t worry about it, I can do that,” Paxton replied.
That night, Paxton waited for Lorelei to sleep before he called the Vice Chairman of Golden Realty Group. Holding a glass of whiskey, he sat down on an Acapulco chair on the balcony of his room.
“Hello, Miss Wyatt?”
“Good evening, Mr. Braxon! What can I do for you?” Miss Sofia Wyatt asked. Her voice seems like she was just awakened by his call.
“I’m sorry to interrupt your sleep. But I want you to do something for me, it is very important. You must do it by tomorrow morning.”
“Hmm, what is it, Sir?” she replied.
“Leviathan Marshall sent a proposal project with Golden Realty a week ago. Have you seen the proposal?”
“Yes, Sir. But I will decline it since it wasn't good—”
Before Miss Wyatt could finish her words, Paxton cut her off. “Sign the deal by tomorrow. It is $100 million.”
“What? Sir? Are you sure? Marshalls are not that established and there are more capable companies…”
“Just sign it.”
“Yes, Sir! I will!”
After the call, Paxton shifted his attention to Lorelei who was sleeping tightly on the bed. He smiled before sipping on the whiskey and finished it.
—
The next morning, a call woke up Lorelei. When she opened her eyes, Paxton wasn't beside her. She quickly took her phone and answered the call from her father.
“Hello, Dad? Good morning! What made you call this early?” she asked.
Getting up from the bed, the sun has already risen and the sunlight is passing from the balcony. Paxton didn't wake her up just like he always did every morning.
“How did your husband do that?!” Morgan asked. “I can't believe it! Your brother called me, Sofia Wyatt signed the deal just this morning!”
Still dizzy from her sleep, Lorelei’s eyes widened. “What? The deal has been signed right away?” she asked, surprised.
“Yes, hun! I didn't know how he did that. Maybe he has a connection with Sara Wyatt or to the owner? Maybe he’s their personal dermatologist that they adore a lot, so they approved his suggestion to sign the deal with us, right? Because there’s no way he can ask them to sign it without any connection,” he guessed. “Well, I guess I have to let him take care of you for a while.”
“For a while?” Lorelei was confused. What does her father mean by that?
“Forget it, just tell him I appreciate his effort. Oh! By the way, your cousin Chloe, and the eldest of Myers will have an engagement party tomorrow. Be there.”
“Alright, Dad. I’ll come with Paxton—”
Before she could finish what she was saying, her father ended the call without any notice. That's when the door to the bathroom opened and Paxton went out. He was topless, wearing only a towel on his waist to cover his lower part. Water was still dripping from his hair down to his chiseled body.
“Is that your father?” Paxton asked.
Lorelei quickly tilted her head to avoid seeing his body. Although they have been together for two weeks, and even got married twice, nothing happened between them. She’s waiting for him to ask but he doesn't. Maybe Paxton respected her so much that he wasn't asking for it.
“Y-yeah… he said he appreciated your effort in getting the deal,” she replied.
“That’s it?” Paxton chuckled. He couldn't believe that a deal worth $100 million didn't have a great impact on Morgan Marshall. He guessed he underestimated him.
“And he told me to go to my cousin’s engagement party tomorrow,” she added.
Paxton nodded, “Alright, we’ll go there.”
—
Expensive chandeliers on the ceilings, tables that were carefully arranged with beautiful white roses, and guests who were wearing expensive dresses and suits. The engagement party between Chloe Marshall and Theodore Myers was so grand. It was one of the most-awaited moments of the Marshall family, to get married to a higher family than them.
“Thank you so much for accepting our invitation to our engagement party! We hope you’ll enjoy the night!” Chloe squirmed after hooking her hand on Theodore’s arm.
Each one of the guests went to them and greeted them to bid their congratulations and gifts to the newly engaged couple. Every gift is surprisingly luxurious, competing on which gift is the most expensive.
Paxton and Lorelei went to them as well. Lorelei was holding a paper bag, a gift for them. It wasn't that expensive but she still made an effort to buy a gift for them.
“Congratulations on your engagement, Chloe and Theodore!” Lorelei greeted then propped the paper bag on the table beside them.
Chloe stopped for a while, her forehead wrinkled, trying to figure out who was in front of her.
“I’m sorry. Who are you?” she asked, raising her brow.
“Didn’t you recognize me? I’m Lorelei,” she replied.
Chloe’s eyes widened, then she gasped. “Oh my God! I remembered now how you look without the scars on your face but how?”
Lorelei shrugged and then smiled. “My husband turned out a dermatologist. Maybe we are really destined for each other. He treated my scars,” she said proudly.
But Chloe seemed to not be convinced. Her attention shifted to Paxton who was standing beside Lorelei. Then scanned his suit.
“Oh, that’s really destiny!” she laughed mockingly. “I remembered you. You are the only handsome among the guys who lined up for Lorelei's husband candidate. The toy boy!”
Paxton flashed an awkward smile but Chloe was unsatisfied by it, she wants to see more! Her face screamed in disgust. Her eyes scanned Paxton's suit once again before she lifted up her head to Lorelei.
“You’re beautiful now, but your husband is still poor and doesn't have a sense of fashion! Look at your husband’s suit. It looked so cheap! Just like how trashy he was!”
Chapter Five: Ex-fiancé.CHLOE’S words attracted everyone’s attention. While Lorelei couldn't help but feel mad, she was trying to provoke Paxton to tell them that he has a luxurious villa and a limited edition car. But Paxton didn't say anything, he just let her cousin humiliate him.“You should at least buy a new and expensive suit for your husband. He fixed your ugly face! Be grateful!” Chloe added.Theodore laughed beside Chloe, “she’s your ugly cousin, right? Wow! She looked so different from how I saw her last time. I almost didn't recognize her.”Paxton didn't like how Theodore insulted Lorelei so he stepped up, “she’s not ugly from before. It just happened that she got in an accident.”“That’s still the same, she became ugly!” Chloe interrupted. “Oh! I think I know the reason why you married her. Is it because you want to use her as an experiment? To see if you can regain her beauty?” “No! That’s not my intention—”He didn't finish what he was saying when the man behind them
Chapter Six: Let Them Insult Me.Paxton becomes the laughingstock for the guests but for the Marshall family, it is embarrassing! Morgan couldn't help but get mad at Paxton who was giving them a lot of embarrassment tonight. It was a shame to have Paxton as their son-in-law! Until he couldn't help the humiliation anymore, he grabbed Paxton’s wrist while apologizing to Darius who was still mad. He dragged Paxton all the way to the uncrowded part of the hall.“You’re such a shame in our family!” Morgan said with gritted teeth. “How could you push Lord Darius? Don't you know he’s one of the most powerful and influential person in this country?!”Paxton just stood there, silently listening to his father-in-law’s anger. While Lorelei on the other side was trying to stop her father.“You should’ve let him dance with Lorelei!”That triggered Paxton. He sighed, “he was about to touch my wife’s bottom. Should I let him do that as well?” Paxton asked, trying to emphasize every word. Ever sinc
Chapter Seven: Gift Worth $8.8 Million.LORELEI woke up early today. It’s been almost three weeks since she stopped working at their company and she has to go back. Earlier, she received a text message from her father that there will be a family meeting that will be held this afternoon and she has to attend.“I will fetch you later after your work,” Paxton said. Lorelei was busy tying his tie. She’s more beautiful today. From her simple makeup that defines her natural beauty to her pink corporate attire. It was his first time seeing Lorelei wearing this. This looks better on her. “Usually, I got off by five. But then, it's been three weeks since I stopped working and I have a lot of pending works. I’m sure I need to work overtime for a week,” she replied. When Lorelei was finally done with his tie, she looked up at him and then smiled. “We’ll be having a family meeting this afternoon anyway,” she added.Paxton’s lips parted, he didn’t know but he felt something bad towards that meet
Chapter Eight: The Owner.THIS is insane! How could Sylvester Braxon be his godfather?!That's what everyone was thinking right now after hearing Paxton’s revelation. They couldn't believe it! While Morgan was stunned, he was still processing all of what he heard. He realized the reason why he closed a $100 million deal with Golden Realty Company! It was all because Golden Realty is under Braxon Empire!“You’ve got to be kidding us, how will you prove that Sylvester Braxon was your godfather?” Levi asked, in an insulting tone. “How could a poor man like you have a connection with a rich billionaire like him?” Paxton shrugged and then he smiled. “How did you all suspect that I am poor?” he asked. “Was that because I am not wearing expensive clothes? Or was it because I lined up through those filthy men who want to marry Lorelei for their own good?”Lorelei was surprised by how her husband fought back against her brother. She thought that Paxton doesn’t have the courage to fight for hi
Chapter Nine: Curious. A WEEK has passed and Morgan Marshall is now fine after he was confined for a week due to some complications and also to monitor his heart. “If it’s not because of Paxton, your father might be dead by now,” Sharon said. They were busy packing Morgan’s bag, now that they were going home. He will be discharged this morning. “I still don't trust him,” Levi replied. “Well, you’re right. We shouldn't trust him right away. One thing that's bothering me is the fact that he married Lorelei when he didn't need money. You know how ugly she was when she had the scars on her face.” Levi shrugged. “Just don't fall for his trap. I’ll pay the bill.” He pretended to not care at all when in fact, he has a bad feeling towards Paxton. It seemed like he has seen him before, and it bothered him. He was too familiar but he just couldn’t figure out where he have seen him. After talking to his mother, Levi went out of the hospital room to go to the front desk to ask for their bi
Chapter Ten: First Step. WEARING white scrubs, Paxton was sitting in a swivel chair inside his clinic. He’s in the hospital and busy writing the prescription for his patient. “Here’s what you should take for your skin allergy. Don’t forget to wash the affected area before putting in an ointment. The antihistamine should be taken once a day,” he said. “Thank you, Doc!” As soon as the patient stood and walked out of the clinic, Oliver, Paxton’s assistant walked inside with a folder in his hand. “Good afternoon, My Lord! Here’s the information that you’re asking for.” Oliver propped the folder on his desk. “Thank you! Have a seat,” he replied. He quickly opened the envelope and took out the files inside. He quickly saw Darius Lavigne’s profile before he looked up at Oliver. “What did you find out?” he asked. Then scanned the profile that he was holding. All the details regarding Darius are in the file… “Mr. Sylvester was right, he proposed to Grace Cartier, your cousin before the
Chapter Eleven: Expensive Suit.PAXTON was sitting on the balcony while browsing through his iPad. He’s studying all of Darius’ assets, investments and everything about his source of income. But then, it is still questionable. How could Darius gain billions when he only has Lavigne’s Realty Company, a small company offering internet providers, and investments? He was so sure that Darius had an underground business… Tomorrow, Amiel will apply as an IT technician in their IT department. He quickly switched the screen to a funny video on social media after the door through the bathroom opened. “What are you doing? You’re still working at night?” Lorelei asked. He shrugged then smiled at her. “No, I wasn't. Just watching funny videos on my iPad.”Lorelei didn't doubt his reason, she walked on the balcony and glanced at his iPad before she sat down in the Acapulco chair in front of him. “I have been thinking these days,” Lorelei said. “Hmm, what is it?”Paxton grabbed the glass of whis
Chapter Twelve: The Other Way Around.DARIUS was stunned. No one has ever talked to him the way Paxton did! And it irritated him! He clenches both his jaw and hands into fists. Gritting his teeth, the moment Paxton sat down on his swivel chair, he glared at him.“I bet you can’t pay $800k just for a suit when you can't even afford to buy for yourself!” he yelled.“I’ll pay. But on one condition, you must take off your suit and throw it into the garbage right now.”His eyes widened. “What the—are you saying that you want me to go home naked?!”Paxton shrugged. “That’s your choice. Go home naked or you can wear my trashy suits. You can choose one in the cabinet.”“Are you insane?!” Darius couldn’t help but feel mad at him even more. But even though he was fuming mad, Paxton remained a straight face. Darius came here to find something that he can use to humiliate Paxton but it seemed like it came out the other way around. He was the one that was humiliated by Paxton!“What are you waitin
