Chapter ninety

"I have my eye on the work you two have been doing," the retired officer said, his voice gruff.

"And I have to say, I'm impressed."

Natasha and Gonzalez exchanged a glance, unsure of how to respond.

"I've seen a lot of people try to make a difference in this city," the retired officer continued. "But most of them give up after a while. It's a tough place to make a change."

Natasha nodded, understanding all too well the challenges they faced.

"But you two," the retired officer said, a hint of admiration in his voice. "You're different. You have a fire in you that I haven't seen in a long time. And I want to help."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a business card. "Call me," he said. "I know people who can help you, who can give you the resources you need to make a real impact."

Natasha and Gonzalez thanked the retired officer and watched as he walked away. As they looked at the business card in their hands, they felt a renewed sense of hope. Maybe they weren't alone in this a
