Chapter one hundred and sixteen

Gonzalez answered the phone, his heart racing with anticipation.

"Hello?" he said, his voice low and steady.

"Is this Detective Gonzalez?" the voice on the other end asked.

"It is," Gonzalez replied.

"My name is Agent Smith from the Federal Bureau of Investigations," the voice continued. "I've been following your work for some time now, and I believe we can help each other out."

Gonzalez felt a surge of excitement as he listened to the agent's words. The FBI had resources and connections that could be invaluable in his fight against corruption, and he knew that this could be the opportunity he had been waiting for.

"What do you have in mind?" he asked.

"I can't discuss it over the phone," Agent Smith replied. "But I can meet you in person tomorrow at the FBI field office downtown. Will you be able to make it?"

Gonzalez didn't hesitate. "Absolutely," he said.

"Good," Agent Smith said. "I'll see you tomorrow at 10 am sharp."
