5 - Limitless VIP Card

Simon packed his things with a heavy heart. This apartment has been his home for almost five years.

Yes, they were married for five years, and he realized now that within those five years as a son-in-law of the Steele family, they never really cared for him.

On top of all, he was insulted for being penniless and discriminated against for looking shabby all the time.

Looking at the empty apartment one last time, Simon left.

He still can't go back to his father's house, not until he commands him to go back. Until then, his real identity should be hidden, and he has no right to reveal himself for who he truly was.

He will need to look for another apartment to stay in. But first, he needs money. He only had a few coins in his pocket, not enough to sustain himself.

Simon took a cab going to one of the biggest banks in New York City, The Bank of New York.

“Take me to the Bank of New York.”

The cab driver’s eyebrows raised mockingly at Simon. But Simon didn’t mind the insulting smirk he had on his face since he’s used to insults and mocking. He’s been dealing with it for almost half of his life.

He was able to get past the guards of the bank even though his clothes looked out of place since they were busy arguing with someone on the line.

But the taller guard noticed him and called to stop Simon.

“Hey! You! Stop right now!”

When Simon looked back, one of the guards hurriedly get to him and grabbed one of his arms before he could even get to the manager's office.

His brows frowned when the guard pulled him. “You are now allowed to enter this place, beggar.” The guard’s voice was loud enough to be heard by the people inside the bank.

Some laughed mocking at him, some looked at him with disgust on their faces, and some even tried to distance themselves from him like he was contaminated with a contiguous disease.

“Wait!” Simon tried to pull his arm away from the guard’s hold. But he only winced when the other guard suddenly appear beside him and grabbed his other arm. “I’m here to withdraw some money. I'm a client of this bank.” Simon tried to reason out.

The mocking laugh only got louder. The guard’s stern look even got heavier.

“You wish. Get out now or we are going to call the police.” The tallest guard threatened him.

“What are you waiting for? Get the disgusted man out of here!”

“I can’t believe you let the beggar in this bank. I thought this place was only for the wealthy!”

''I can't stand to look at his clothes! It's so cheap.''

Simon heard the complaints of the customers. He can’t help but feel a little bit of remorse for those people. They only care for the rich and discriminated against the poor. If they only knew how much money he deposited in this bank, he bet they would pay so much respect to him. Simon realized that money was all that matters to most people on the planet.

“What is happening here?”

All heads turned to the person who spoke. His voice was hoarse and commanding.

A tall man with a bulging belly stood in front of them. He had eyeglasses on and his hair was about to go instinct.

“We’re sorry about the mess. We are just escorting this person out, I think he’s lost. He entered the wrong building.” The smaller guard reasoned out. The manager is a strict person, he wants his employees to be efficient and responsible.

The manager’s brows knotted together as they skimmed through Simon from head to his feet.

“I’m sure I was not lost, and I am sure I entered the correct building. I’m here to withdraw some cash. If you will just unhand me so I can get my card.''

Mr. Floyd turned to face the bank’s clients. “I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Rest assured that everything is under control.” He smiled.

The Bank of New York was one of the wealthiest banks in the city. Incidents like this will surely taint their reputation.

When the manager turned to look at Simon, his expression changed.

“Take him out now. He’s scaring my clients.” The manager had a stern voice that made the guards push Simon. He waved his hand to dismiss Simon.

With his strength, Simon was able to push one of the guards, making him free from his hold.

The people gasped, shocked even.

One of the guards pulled his gun from his holster and pointed it at Simon, who automatically raised both of his arms as a sign that he meant no harm.

“Don’t move!”

“Hey, I meant no harm, I just want to withdraw some cash. I am not some criminal or beggar who will cause trouble.” Simon pulled a card from his pocket and showed it to the manager. It was a black shiny card, with the initial letter L in the middle. It’s the Limitless VIP, a card given to those clients who deposited huge amounts of money.

The manager was shocked upon seeing the card. It’s a card only given to the wealthiest people.

The people can’t believe what they saw. A man that looks like a beggar was in possession of that card. But they only judge him more, thinking the card was a fraud, or it was stolen.

Mr. Floyd snatched the card from Simon’s hand and examined if it was an imitation or not. He’s not convinced that Simon owned it. “Where did you get this? This is a limited VIP card given only to the wealthiest in the country. Where did you steal this? You will be jailed for stealing something so valuable.” The manager put on a disgusted look at Simon. “Call the police. Now!” He commanded one of the guards.

“I can assure you that I did not steal this card. You can get my fingerprint if you want to verify my identity.” Simon raised his right hand, offering it to the manager.

Mr. Floyd was reluctant, but if he refuses to let this man verify his identity and then it turns out he was really the owner of the cards, then it will be over for him.

“I will let you scan your finger on the scanner, but once I’ll discover that you’re scamming us, I will make sure that you will rot in jail.”

Floyd went to get the wireless fingerprint scanner. When he returned, he had in his hand the scanner. He doesn’t like being ordered around by a man like Simon, but he can’t risk his career.

Simon put his finger on the scanner.

The people who witnessed the drama waited. It took their breaths away while they waited for the scanner to the turned color red, in the hopes that the man was a fraud.

Suddenly, the scanner bipped, and the color green blinked on the screen, confirming the identity of Simon.

All the spectators gasped in shock. The manager’s mouth gaped open, and the guard who pointed his gun at Simon froze.

It took a minute before the manager recovered from his undeniable shock. He immediately commanded the guard to put his gun down. “Hey! Put the gone down.”

When Floyd turned to Simon, he already had a warm smile on his face. “Please, forgive us for the inconvenience, sir. We really regret it. Please, come to my office so we can talk properly and more privately.”

Simon just shook his head in disappointment. If not for his fingerprint, all the people inside this bank wanted him behind bars even though he has not done anything to harm them.

The manager repeatedly asked for an apology for what happened. He paid attention to Simon’s demand without hesitation and question.

After Simon got the money he needed, he walked passed the clients who condemned him with his head held high.
