7 - Jailed for Unfair Reasons

“Are you the manager of this store?” Gregory asked Willis.

Willis recognized Gregory Holt when his mouth gaped open as he stared at him. Simon knew Willis never side with him. With Gregory and Ashley, he’s almost sure Willis will not listen to any of his explanations.

“He’s a criminal, he tried to steal my wallet. Do you have any idea how valuable my wallet is?” Ashley hysterically cried. She even held onto Gregory’s arm like she was really traumatized.

“I’m so sorry for the trouble, Mr. Gregory, Miss Steele. Simon here is a new employee, On his behalf, I want to apologize. And I will make sure this will never happen again.” Willis turned to the crowd, “Again, I’m sorry for the trouble.

“I want that man behind cold bars! I can’t believe someone as lowly as him would try to harm me!” Ashley hysterically said. She feigned shock and fear in her eyes.

“God, why did they hire that man? He looks like a criminal!”

“I will never shop here again. I can’t believe they hired a psychotic person like him!”

''I thought this mall has the best security, I will never step foot here again!''

The crowd can’t seem to get over the fact that the mall has hired a thief as a janitor.

“Gentlemen, calm down. I am going to deal with this right away.” Willis claimed the crowd before he turned to look sternly at Simon. He assured them that it will never happen again. He turned to look at Armando, their eyes were talking. Willis nodded at Armando.

“Mr. Holt, Miss Steele, we can talk this incident to my office. Please, follow.

He then turned to Simon with a grave face. Willis doesn’t like the man. He will use this incident to fire Simon.

“Sanchez, take him to the office now.” The other security personnel stepped in and grabbed Simon by the shoulder and pulled his hands to his back restraining him from moving.

“Move! Now!” Sanchez pushed Simon as they started to walk.

Simon was humiliated in front of the crowd, it was not the first time Ashley had done this. She used to look down on him whenever there is a family gathering. He wondered if the old man knew about their divorce, he bet the knew still hasn’t reached him.

“Move, dumbass” Sanchez pushed him to continue walking. “You should know better than to steal from someone who is very wealthy. That’s very stupid,” he said, mockingly.

Simon didn’t comment on what Sanchez’s said. Even if he tried to deny the accusation,  no one will ever listen to a poor man like him. The law would always prefer to side with wealthy and famous people.

He can’t believe Ashley would do that to him, not to that extent. Yes, she can be a bitch, but that was too much. And that Gregory Holt was just laughing as if what Ashley did was some kind of a funny thing.

The moment Simon entered the office, he was shocked.

There were two police officers waiting for him. He didn’t know how these police officers get to the mall that fast. His forehead creased when he heard a chuckle. When Simon turned, he found Gregory and Ashley seated on the plush couch mocking him with their grin.

“Arrest that man. There’s no need for a trial whatsoever. The crowd who witnessed the incident was enough to be evidence that he’s a criminal.”

“Wait, what? You can’t arrest me like that! You know that! And I didn’t steal your wallet, you purposely throw it to me and shouted to attract the people there.”

“Are you suggesting that I lied? How dare you! Take this man now!” Ashley turned to Willis who was sitting behind his desk. “If you don’t fire and sue him, I will sue him for being incompetent!” she added.

A knock on the door got their attention. One of Simon’s co-workers entered. In his hand were his belongings from the locker.

“Mr. Willis, I found this inside his bag.” He showed them the Limitless VIP card. “I don’t think he can afford this kind of card.”

“That card is only given to top depositors in a certain bank. I’m sure he got that from one of his victims. What are you waiting for? Get his ass to jail now!”

“No! Wait! That’s mine, I didn’t steal that.”

But no one listened to him. Sanchez dragged him out of the office.

Simon struggled to get free from Sanchez’s hold, but Armando suddenly restrained him with handcuffs. He wanted to shout that he was innocent, but he knew that effort would only be put to waste.

“Hey, love. Relax. I will make sure he will pay for what he did.” Gregory rubbed Ashley’s back to calm her.

Simon gritted his teeth. These people were getting out of hand. They were using their wealth and power to abuse him and his kindness.

Simon didn’t say even a single word. He just let the officers take him to the station and detained him there.

Simon gripped the cold bars of the detention area of the police station. He seething in rage but he’s controlling not to show it to the police on duty.

“How dare they humiliate me.” He whispered with gritted teeth. There’s nothing he wanted right now but to make them pay for being abusive.

“Hey, you! You have a visitor.”

Simon was snapped back to reality when an officer appeared in front of him with keys in his hand.

“Your lawyer wants to talk to you.”

Simon looked at the officer with a questioning look.

His lawyer? Does he even have one? He asked himself silently. He was wondering who might that be, or maybe there was just a misunderstanding. He’s not expecting anyone to visit him this soon.

“Are you sure he’s looking for me? Because I am not expecting any lawyer.”

“He’s looking for Simon Scott unless that's not your name, then he might be mistaken.”

The officer cuffed his hands and lead him out of the cell.

Simon was actually shocked when he saw Butler John seated on one of the benches. Beside him was a black leather duffel bag.

“What does he doing here?” Simon whispered to himself as he walked slowly to where his father’s butler was sitting.

The moment butler John saw him, he stood straight and bowed in front of Simon. The butler showed how much he respected the heir.

His forehead creased. Butler John never showed that gesture since his father decided to hide his real identity. He and the butler had met on several occasions, but he would just treat him like an ordinary person, as per his father’s command. And Simon didn’t mind that.

Now that he bowed in front of him in a public place, Simon knew something was up.

“How did you know that I was here? And what are you doing here? We are not supposed to be seen talking in public.” Simon couldn’t help but ask. “Did something happen to my father?” He needs to know now. His heart raced as he thought of his father.

Butler John smiled politely at him. “Young master, I am pleased to see you again, though I am not pleased that it would be in a place like this. Your father is very well, sir.”

“Then, why are you acting like that? And are you following me? How did you know I was here?”

Butler John slightly nodded his head as if he remembered something, but then he cleared his throat and look seriously at Simon.

“Your father wants you to return home, Young master. It’s time for you to go back home, sir.”

Simon’s breathing hitched as he absorbed what John just said. He will return home now.

His gaze dropped to the bag beside John.

“What’s in that bag?”

“Money, sir.”

“For what?” Simon was confused.

“So you can finally go home.”

“Hey! Time’s up! You go back to your cell now.” The officer shouted from his desk.

John picked up the bag and dropped it on the police’s desk. He opened it and pulled out several bundles of cash.

The police’s mouth gaped open as he stared at the money laid in from of him. He had never seen this much money all his life.

“W-what’s t-this?” he stuttered.

John leaned on his table and smiled. “This money is all yours, officer.” He picked up a bundle of cash and gave it to the man’s shivering hands. “Take it, and buy your wife good drees.”

Simon and Butler John left the police station, but the officer inside was still in shock.
