Chapter 8

Throughout the argument between Alessia, Donald and Pharrell, Mia took her leave. She knew it was going to be a difficult moment for her, should Alessia find out she was still there.

Though she left the shop without telling anyone, she called another friend of hers and asked them to meet up in a restaurant, where they wined and dined. She was making sure that what she did wasn’t going to affect Alessia. After a round of talks, she finally left for her apartment.

On reaching, Alessia was in the room and blow-drying her hair. Mia entered, removed her shoes. Still, she was unable to face her friend.

“I searched for you but you weren’t around. What happened?” Alessia turned off the hair machine and asked.

“I-I… I left with some friends.” Mia started stuttering, but did everything to arrange that.

“And you, are you okay?” She faced her.

“Sure, I’ll be fine.” Alessia replied coldly. Her voice was low and void of emotion.

“Huh? You are always fine, is there a problem?” Mia insisted.

“Well, thanks to Pharrell, I’m fine.” She mentioned.

Mia’s eyes widened as she was trying to understand what she meant by that. She had never considered Pharrell even just for a moment. What was going on?

“Can you enlighten me more on this? It seems like I’m lost.”

“Sure,” Alessia started talking. She explained everything that happened between her and Donald’s girlfriend. How she was called a slut. And how Pharrell and the lady left the place.

“Donald did that to you?” She asked, “I had no idea that he was in a relationship already. Not withstanding, that didn’t give her the right to scold you as she did. You should have taught her a lesson.”

“Me?” Alessia questioned while widening her eyes, “I couldn’t. That lady would have dealt with me mercilessly if I had tried to revendicate.” She opposed.

“Then you should have called me. We would have given her what she opted for. It’s not your fault if Donald finds you attractive. Instead of making noise, she should rather take herself to a spa and correct the mistakes she has.” Mia explained.

“Talking of Donald, I swear that I had no idea he was just an idiot. He didn’t even bother to defend me when she poured all those words. She even slapped him and he was silent.”

“Wow… then that’s a no go area.”

“Anyway, let’s forget about him and talk about something else.” Alessia said, walking to her friend. “Let’s talk about Pharrell. Let’s talk about his sudden money.”

“Oh that, I was as surprised as you. I didn’t know he had the money till he opted to buy me clothes. Did you see the bag he bought for me?” Mia asked. She took out the plastic she left in the living room. Took the bag out and handed it to Alessia.

That was the same bag that she wanted. The same bag she couldn’t afford because Donald asked to drop it using some funny excuses. Seeing that Pharrell got the bag for Mia made her quench. A lump tight in her throat as she kept exploring its beauty. It was supposed to be hers and not Mia’s.

“This only shows I was living a dream.” She gathered her courage and said,

“Why do you say so?” Mia asked as she gently tapped her friend’s shoulder.

“I wished I had continued with Pharrell. I wish I could see what was going to happen in the future. Can you imagine that the same day I broke up with him, he had money?” Alessia said, a tear strolling down her jawline.

“That’s what we call life. We never know when things are going to turn around. It’s not your fault that you decided to build something new with Donald. It’s quite unfortunate that he was occupied.”

“He is not only occupied but also broke. He didn’t get me anything expensive. Just the regular top and jeans that even a cleaner can get for themselves.” Her words caused Mia to chuckle.

“This isn’t funny, Mia. I was so embarrassed when he asked me to drop some of the few nice clothes we had selected. All that in the name of his mother this, his mother that… How stupid I was.”Alessia punched the bed. Her friend could only tap her shoulders, and they weren’t even helpful.

“I’m so sorry for you. Do you want to see what Pharrell bought for me?” Shocked by her question, Alessia nodded her head.

Quickly, Mia got to the living room and brought the two luxury plastics, containing clothes.

“Here, Alessia. Come and check for yourself.” With a bright smile, Mia requested. Alessia struggled to climb down the bed and moved to the desk where the plastic was deposited.

Going through the plastic and seeing all that Pharrell bought for her got her mad. She was hurt as the clothes were supposed to be all hers. If only she had supported him for a few days. If only she had continued the game, then all that would have been hers.

“What’s up, Alessia. I think you aren’t in your mood. Are you still thinking of what Donald and his girlfriend did to you?” Mia asked.

“Oh that, I have long forgotten about them.” She made it crystal clear.

Mia gulped down and kept observing her friend. She knew everything wasn’t okay. There was something troubling her and she needed to know what it was.

Alessia finished going through the clothes and told her they were beautiful. The problem was that her voice was cold.

“I hope you aren’t angry because Pharrell bought me clothes?” Mia lowered her head to that of her friend before asking.

“Of course not, why would I be angry? You two are just friends, right?” She said and then turned her eyes in a different direction. In her mind, she wasn’t going to let what happened now repeat itself.
