“Why were you there? How did you know that there will be an encounter in that place?” Jake questioned Mabelle as he stirred his coffee.
“I have my assets. They tell me where there is a scoop, and by chance, that time, it was about the operation of the gang that you encountered. And I saw everything that happened,” the woman replied.
Jake exhaled and stretched his neck from left to right. Then he sighed loudly. “Alright. I don't have any choice but to believe that, do I? Now, what about your brother?”
The woman looked down at her hands, which were on her lap. Her eyes began to well up with tears.
“My younger brother used to work for the Smithsons Pharmaceutical Company. He was an all around employee working for the CEO. But then, he discovered a secret deal concerning an illegal enhancement drug. And he was hunted because of that,” Mabelle narrated. “They thought he would expose that to the public.”
“Then what does that have to do with magic?”
Mabelle looked him in the eyes. "I saw it. I witnessed his death. The man who murdered him opened a dark portal, and a huge black wolf with two heads emerged and gnawed at my brother's body until nothing was left." Then tears started to fall from her eyes.
Jake’s face stiffened. He couldn’t believe there was someone in that world that could use that high level magic.
“Did you see the face of that man? Or perhaps you have a picture of him?” Jake asked while keenly looking at the woman. “I need to see his face.”Mabelled paused for a while and looked at him. “Why did you suddenly become so interested?”
Jake gazed at the woman and tilted his head, then took a sip from his cup. “You want me to help you catch your brother’s murderer, of course I would like to see his face.”
“But you can just easily decline, and black mail me to stop,” Mabelle replied. “And it seems that you’re more interested to know that man who murdered, than to help me.”
Jake took another sip of coffee then he started to laugh without a sound. “Have you talked to the police about this?”
“Yes. But they just laughed at me. Telling me that I am insane.”
“Of course!” Jake commented while laughing. “Alright, let’s say you’re telling me the truth here, if so, then this place would be in serious danger.”
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t tell you now,” Jake answered. “I want to know first if you’re telling the truth. Bring me to that man. And I will help you afterwards.”
Mabelled smiled. Her eyes were still teary. “No. You work on my terms. Tell me everything you know, or I’ll expose your photos to the public. Oh! I even have a video! People will learn about you and I’ll do my best with my ability to ruin your name and this company.”
Jake burst out laughing while holding his stomach. He stood up and went behind Mabelle. “I think you don’t understand something here,” he said, then he brought his mouth near the woman’s right ear. “I bet you can’t move now.”
Mabelle started to cry. “What did you do? Why can’t I move my body?!”
“Relax. I am just showing you a bit of what I can do,” Jake replied with a smile then he put his hand on the woman’s right shoulder. “Actually, I could put you to sleep, and I was about to. Until you told me about the one who killed your brother. Now, you work on my terms, or say goodbye to your memories?”
“No. Please!” Mabelle pleaded. “Okay. I’ll work on your terms!”
“Good!” Jake then released the spell and Mabelle was able to move again. “This is actually a win-win deal for you. You’ll get revenge on your brother’s killer, and you can save the world. Now Ms. Journalist, tell me all the information you have about that man.”
Mabelle rummaged inside her bag and took a handkerchief to wipe the tears on her cheeks. Her hands were still shaky as she continued to look for something inside her bag.
“Don’t be scared. I don’t kill people,” Jake said trying to calm her down. “You saw me fight, did you see me kill someone?”
Mabelle shook her head, then pulled out two photos from her bag and put it on the table. Jake moved to her side and took a look at the pictures. There, a tall , bald, tanned-skinned man in black hoodie was seen eating in a cafe.
“He is Andrew Edison,” Mabelle started. “He is the one who killed my brother. I have followed him since that day, and I saw this.” She pointed at the other picture and there Jake saw Andrew talking with Anthony Smith.”
But that wasn't the only thing that piqued his interest. In the photo, Anthony was carrying an old book that he was quite familiar with. He examined the image more closely, which verified his suspicions. It was the book where he learned about the Aetherlock. The mystical book of knowledge passed down to heroes and kings of Eldramoria— the Eldratome.
“Why is that book here? What in the world is going on?” he mumbled to himself then he glanced at the Aetherlock. “Why does Anthony work with wizards? And why is there a mage here?”
“I-I’m sorry? Were you saying something?” Mabelle asked while looking at him.
But he didn’t answer. He just smiled and sat beside the journalist. “Where can I find that man?” he asked.
“He is moving around,” Mabelle answered right away. “But he always hangs out in a bar in the outskirts of the city. He goes there every Monday and Fridays, and on Sundays, he sometimes meet a person from the Smithsons.”Jake nodded while looking at the table. “Okay. I’ll help you out. Just give me all the information you have. And no telling about this to the public and don’t ask too much. Is that clear?”
“Alright.”
Jake requested for a business card, which Mabelle quickly provided. After saying his goodbyes, he left the woman and went in search of his father, who, according to the maid, was in his office on the 2nd floor.
He went there and knocked on the door.
“Who’s there?” his father asked from inside the room.
“It’s me Jake.”
“Come in,” he father responded.
He walked inside the room. His father was seated in front of a work table full of documents and other items, working on a laptop. He stood in front of it.
“Did you miss your room?” the old man asked. Then he stopped typing to face Jake.
“I am not here for that,” he quickly responded. “Listen. Please allow me to talk to Anthony Smith.”
His father paused for a while. “If this is about what happened to Caroline, you’d rather stop. We don’t have evidence. And the man who knew everything suddenly died in front of us. He even gave us a hard time disposing his body.”
Jake put his hands on the table and brought his face near his father’s. “I don’t care,” he said while staring at his old man’s eyes. “Announce me as the CEO as soon as possible and let me handle this problem with the Smithsons.”
“Okay. But you have to remember that I still don’t trust you,” the old man said before standing up to get some whiskey. “I don’t know what happened to you, but I’ll give you a chance. Blow this away and you’re done. I hate cleaning other people’s mess.”
“I am not here to gain your trust. I am here to get what I am supposed to have and to do what I supposed to do,” Jake replied.
“Then do it. Prove to me that you should have my wealth, power, and influence.”
Jake nodded and exited the office. He had a lot on his mind and was having trouble keeping his calm. He just wanted to have a nice life now that he was back in his own world, a life that was different from the miserable one he lived before. But that wasn't his only concern now; he was curious as to how and why strong mages had suddenly appeared in his own world.
The following day, after lunch, Drummond Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Corporation held a press conference and named Jake as the company's new CEO. And that got mixed reactions from the employees and the public. “A press con, seriously?” Sebastian asked after slamming his fist into the table in front of him. “Is Jake that special, huh?” He faced Mr. Drummond. “You used to hate him a lot!”“You better calm down, boy.” Mr. Drummond calmly said. “Remember if it wasn’t for him, you’d be on the streets now.”“After what I’ve done for the company? You’ll abandon me like this?” Jake smirked and that got Sebastian’s attention. He looked daggers at Jake while clenching his fists. “You didn’t do anything for the company and you know that,” Jake said looking straight at Sebastian.“What? Me? Didn’t do anything?! What do you know?!” Sebastian yelled back.Jake took out an attache case and pulled out several files from there. Then he slammed all of it on the table. Sebastian looked at Jake befor
Jake told his bodyguards to stay in the car and wait for his orders. Then he asked Sebastian to go with him inside the building.“Your face tells me that something is wrong,” Sebastian said as they both went up the stairs to the entrance of the building. “You look in pain.”“Just ignore me,” Jake replied. “But you have to watch out.”“For what?”“Just prepare yourself,” Jake responded immediately, then came to a halt when he reached the front of the rotating door. “Something is coming, that I can’t tell as of now.” Then he continued to enter the building.Sebastian simply shook his head and stared at Jake's back with an open
Andrew started crawling out of the elevator while grasping his stomach.. Blood was coming out of his nose, and from the cut above his right eyebrow.“I heard you can also use summoning magic. Why don’t you call a pet to help you?” Jake asked while smiling and staring down at Andrew. He glanced at Sebastian, but looked back at Andrew when he saw that his step brother was still unconscious.“You definitely belong to the Dragons!” Andrew mumbled while still crawling away from Jake. “You’re not only a wizard…“Yes, I am not,” Jake interrupted. “Because I am an Archmage.”Jake grabbed Andrew by the collar and carried him to the large black door at the end of a long hallway. He raised his hand
“Do you have any last words, Drummond?!” Andrew asked while sneering and looking at Jake. “You wanted to meet my pet, right? Now meet Atlas and be a good food for him!”Ken held onto the wall and pushed himself up from being seated. His right hand, as well as two of his left ribs, were broken. He then weaved a hand sign using his left hand and Atlas, the three headed wolf, was suddenly engulfed with purple glowing magic armor. The creature roared once more and it was so loud that the whole place was shaken.“I must admit that you’re strong,” Ken said while struggling to even step forward. “I would like to see more of what you can do, but we have to end this here.”Jake nodded his head and smiled. “You too. Both of you were indeed very strong. I can prove that with this creature in front of us. And I can’t believe that Anthony got hold of this power in his hands.”“We the Vipers also have our own goals,” Ken replied. “We just work for the Smithsons for money. Money that we will be nee
Jake healed and woke Sebastian up. Then he asked him to go with him. Sebastian demanded an explanation on what happened, but he didn’t answer any of his questions. Instead, he just went directly to the 50th floor. It was the floor he saw when he read Ken’s memory after putting the man to sleep. There was only one huge office on that floor and when they went there, nobody was there. “Are you sure he’s here?” Sebastian yelled at him. “And tell me what happened?! The man with us in the elevator, where is he? And how come he has some magic power and stuff?!”He glared at him. “Can you please shut up for a moment?”“How can I just shut up? I don’t understand what’s happening!” Sebastian angrily replied. Jake sighed. “I’ll tell you everything after this. For now, look for Anthony. Okay? This is our priority! We have to catch him!”Sebastian screamed in frustration. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. “Call the boys, Jake. And tell them to help.” “Alright,” Jake replied. He called his
Every day, the number of unemployed citizens increased, causing the crime rate to rise as well. And the cost of basic necessities continued to rise, while newly discovered diseases spread quickly. Despite this, only the underprivileged were affected, while the rich and billionaires continued to gain power and wealth. Jake returned to his office with Sebastian. He hadn't even sat down when a tanned-skin woman dressed in formal office attire walked in and told him he had a meeting in five minutes. “Can we postpone that? It’s already late,” he said. The woman bowed before answering. “I am sorry, Young master. But this is urgent. The president and the board are expecting you there.”“Is that so? Alright. I’ll be there. I just need to wind up a bit,” he replied with a sigh. Then the woman bowed again, went out, and closed the door gently. “Maybe It’s about the inflation,” Sebastian suddenly said. “It has been affecting us since the beginning of the year and this month is the worst.”
“What happened in the Smithsons’?” Mr. Drummond asked Jake right after the board left the conference room. Jake looked at his father. "Anthony is looking forward to killing you. He still thinks that you’re the reason for his father’s death and he is determined to kill us all.”Mr. Drummond leaned his back on his swivel chair and sighed. “Then what did you do? Where is he now? And why is the police here?”“Anthony escaped,” Jake replied. “But I already asked someone to look for him. And as for the police, they are here to ask about Caroline’s kidnapping. Just let me take care of this.”His father sighed again, then looked straight at him. “Don’t mess it up. Don’t.”Jake smiled as he stood up. He then left the conference room without saying goodbye to his father. And just outside the room was Sebastian waiting for him.“Is this part of your plan?” Sebastian asked with a knitted brows. “No,” Jake answered and smirked. “But everything is going smoothly so let’s go with the flow.”“I sti
It was already late when Jake got home. He was holding his lower back when he entered the main door of the house and he proceeded to the kitchen to look for food. But there wasn’t anything in the fridge that he liked. So, he just went up to his room and changed into more comfortable clothes. And while removing his shirt, he noticed something on his stomach. It was a long horizontal scar just below his navel on the right side. He touched and examined it in the mirror. It was the spot where he was stabbed with a broadsword in Eldramoria. It wasn't there when he awoke from his coma, so he wasn't sure as to why it had suddenly appeared. Then he suddenly remembered the pain of being stabbed there. “What is happening?” he asked himself while still feeling the scar. There were a lot of questions running that he couldn’t find the answers to. He put on his shirt and sat on the edge of his bed, then dialed Mabelle's number. He could only think of her in relation to the video sent to the cops
Karlow quickly dashed to Damascus and he carried him on his back. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to match that form of Valaree, and that retreating would be the best option for them to save their lives. He wanted to fight but he didn’t want to waste the second life he had now. So, he couldn’t be reckless. But he hadn’t gone far away yet, when Valaree jumped in front of him.“Don’t look at his eyes!” Damascus said faintly. Karlow quickly looked away from Valaree and he started to run to the other side. “You can try looking at his chest. Just avoid looking at his face, or else you’ll be tempted to look at those eyes.” Damascus said again.“Damn it! How can I fight like that?” Karlow exclaimed.“Just put me down,” Damascus said. “I will just slow you down. I am done for. So, just go and fight without thinking about me.”Karlow snickered. “As if a noble knight like me can do that to a comrade who saved my life.”“Ah! Damn it! Let me go!” Damascus shouted.Karlow was about to answer b
Damascus immediately ran towards Jake and hugged his friend tightly. Then he sat on the ground while catching his breath. “You could’ve killed me with that woman,” he said while looking at the ground. “You even saved me from death.”“So the healing spell that I cast down there healed you?” Jake asked. “But you were dead. You were dead even before we got there.”“That’s what I knew as well. But I guess, you have awakened something that wasn’t awakened even by the strongest mages in history. Or maybe even the Aetherlock,” Damascus replied.Jake looked at his friend. He did not say anything, but he thought about what Damascus said. He knew he didn’t have the magic to bring dead people to life. He didn’t even try using the reanimation magic even before. So, there must be a possibility that what Damascus said was true. “Anyway, we don’t have much time to think about it right now,” Damascus suddenly said while slowly standing up.Jake nodded and his brows knitted when he saw the bodies of
“Damascus?!” Thalara shouted after coughing up blood. “How come you’re still alive?! Damn you!”Damascus snickered while looking up at her. “Have you forgotten? I was once called ‘The Immortal Damascus.’ And once you have an Archmagus Maximus friend, you’re unlikely to die easily. Right, Jake?”“You son of a gun, I thought you hit the bucket already,” Jake said with a faint smile on his face. Tharala cast a spell and the sword that was pierced in her slowly moved and was pulled out. The sword fell but Damascus caught it. She then cast a healing spell but Jake dispelled it, causing her wound to bleed more.“Does it hurt?” Jake asked as he slowly floated around Thalara. “How does it feel to be stabbed in the back by someone you know?”Thalara did not respond. She just gritted her teeth while pressing the wound to at least lessen the bleeding. “You think that’s painful?” he asked again. “But that was nothing compared to the pain that you caused me.”Thalara then smiled and looked at Ja
The Vipers and the Wolves started to attack. They used all the magic powers they had to suppress the evil gods and Tharanos. Archris quickly ran towards Jake and he pulled him away from the chaos. “Bring him inside Caroline’s barrier,” Lyca said. “We’ll fight with our comrades here. We have to be in the front line. You know our mages wouldn’t last long and that there will be bloodbath in just a matter of minutes. So, move fast. Okay?”Archris nodded his head. Then without a word, he teleported together with Jake near the evacuation area. Caroline then touched the barrier and let them in. “Oh, no,” Caroline exclaimed. Alica beside her was crying and the people started to crowd around them trying to see what happened to Jake.“Come on, Caroline. Don’t cry,” Jake said. He was trying to hide the pain, but his face couldn’t. Then his body started trembling. “Caroline, we don’t have much time,” Archris said. “Heal Professor as fast as you can. We have to go back to the battlefield.”“B-
Thalara’s intelligence was hard to match. She was the queen, the leader of the forest priestesses, and once, hailed the greatest forest priestess ever lived. She had led the elite faction, and protected them from extinction even before Jake arrived in Eldramoria. She had won many battles already, and was a feared tactician during the war of Eldramora against Tharanos. And Jake just forgot that. And that mistake put him in a terrible situation. He was still dizzy from the punch he took from Tharanos. He could feel his body, but couldn’t move. He wanted to crawl away, as he knew what was coming next. And heard an unsheathing sword. And he yelped when he felt something was stabbed in his back. It was so painful but he couldn’t even scream. “Jake!” “Aetherlock… I am sorry…”“No! You aren’t dying yet!”The ring on his finger illuminated a bright light, causing blindness to those around him. It was so bright that even the people in the evacuation area had to cover their eyes.Jake felt a
Jake looked at the five evil gods behind Tharanos. He remembered all of them, and the struggles he had against them flashed in his memories. He might have defeated Voragor and Dudgara, but he knew that fighting the remaining five together, and Tharanos would be a suicide. From the left of Tharanos, he saw the evil god of Pride. A woman in a red leather suit that was not zipped properly on the chest part because of the chest's massive size. Her name was Samarah. Next is the evil god of envy, a man in deep blue armor. He had blue eyes and long hair. He was called Ingo. Beside him is a man without a shirt, the evil god of lust. He was just wearing pants and leather boots. And his physic was so nice like he was a perfectly carved sculpture. He also had a blindfold. He was known as ValareeThen almost beside Tharanos, is a bald man with a red beard. He was wearing armor made of gold and a cape laced with shining gemstones. He is the evil god of greed, Mammonar. And the last one, was a sma
Tharanos put for marks around the evacuation area. Then he cast a spell. A black translucent barrier appeared and covered the evacuation area. The normal people didn’t see it, but Caroline did. And she suddenly felt fear when she saw it covered the place. She looked at her brother. Jake was still on the ground bound by binding magic. She tried to call him, but his eyes were closed and not responding. The evacuation center went into panic when they saw what happened. They still couldn’t fully understand what was happening, but they knew that they were in grave danger. They started shouting at the police and military, asking for assurance that they would be safe. Others were asking when the rescue would be coming, and some were forcing themselves out of the place. It was chaos, and the officers and authorities were having a hard time controlling the crowd. And in the middle of that, some fights broke out. A woman and a middle-aged man then approached Caroline. The woman pushed her fro
Tharanos slowly descended from above, his eyes locked at Jake and Thalara followed him with a proud face. The tyrant god-like creature that once terrorized Eldramoria softly landed on the ground, and even the people inside the barrier felt the strong and dreadful presence from that man and they started squirm and ran behind the officers and Caroline. But Jake did not waver. He just stood in the spot where he appeared while looking at the man who was just casually walking towards him. The dark aura emanating out of Tharanos did not affect him.He then looked around and he could not help but sigh when he saw the city was lit by the fire created by the evil gods walking towards where they were. The buildings and houses were destroyed. The whole city was already in ruins. “You look worried,” Tharanos said. His steps were accompanied by black lightning and smoke. “Are you worried about the city?”Tharanos raised his hands and the buildings behind him all fell down. Jake looked at the dir
Jake sat beside Damascus’ not moving body. His head and shoulders were down, and he kept on sighing. There were no tears coming out, but the fury in his heart kept on growing. And it was greater than the sadness that he was feeling at the moment. He touched Damascus’ shoulder, hoping that he would still feel a bit of life from his former friend. But there was nothing. The body in front of him was lifeless. He stood up and without saying anything or looking at Lyca, he headed to the stairs leading down. His face was dark, and his eyes were glaring. There was also small lighting surrounding his body and fists. And the most notable of all was that the Aetherlock was shining brightly.Lyca and the two knights could feel Jake’s fury, and that stopped them from saying anything. They just followed the Archmage until they reached the final floor of that dungeon. It was a long pathway and on the sides were also cages filled with ominous creatures in Eldramoria. However, the floor contained
