Chapter 10

That day concluded with Jake learning everything about his father and the Smithsons Pharmaceutical Company.

He found that his father had a deal with the Smithsons to smuggle pharmaceuticals and formulae from other countries. However, Anthony Smith betrayed them after the deal was exposed to the public. His father, on the other hand, made it through the tough situation and took all of the revenue. Right after that, Anthony's father died of heart failure. And, for sure, Anthony Smith would not stop until he gets revenge for his father's death.

But it was the sigils he saw before David died that bothered him the most. Because even in Eldramoria, only very few mages can wield that kind of magic.

After making sure that his sister was okay, he went home and had a very good sleep. He suddenly felt drained and he didn’t even notice that he slept for almost the whole day. And it was already dark again when he woke up.

Jake stretched his arms upward while yawning. “My magic energy is still not that much, huh? I guess I have to practice and mass magic power if I have time!”

He sighed deeply as he glanced at the Aetherlock. Then he stood up, had a bath, and packed the few necessary items that remained in his apartment because today was the day he would move to his father's mansion.

After all the preparation, he put on his backpack, went to the center of the apartment and he took a deep breath. Then he cast a teleportation spell, which instantly transported him to the front gate of his father's mansion.

It was a massive mansion with colonial architecture. There were eleven large bedrooms and an enormous living area that could accommodate a lot of people. And the furniture and décor were all first-rate, with some even being collector's items. And the paintings on the walls were by well-known painters from around the world.

The guards welcomed him, and even the maids bowed before him.

“Welcome back, Young Master,” a tall man with neatly combed white short hair greeted him. The man was wearing a black tuxedo and had a white cloth hanging on his left arm. He had a weathered face, but his smile made him appear younger.

“Mr. White. It’s nice to see you again,” Jake greeted back. He smiled then hugged the old man.

The butler was taken aback, but quickly smiled and hugged Jake back. “I knew this time would come. And your mom will surely be happy.”

Jake didn’t reply. He let go of the butler and gave him a smile while nodding.

“We are still preparing your room. For now, you may proceed to the dining area and have some food,” the butler happily said. “But Master Sebastian is there, if you mind eating with him, I can request him to leave.”

“No, Mr. White. It’s fine. I actually have to talk to him,” Jake replied. Then after saying goodbye to the butler he proceeded to the dining room.

The dining room was enormous. There was a long wooden table with bronze legs and silver side decorations that could accommodate 25 people. And at the far side of it was Sebastian. He was in his wheelchair eating a steak.

“Hey! How are you?” Jake greeted his stepbrother while walking towards him.

Sebastian’s jaw dropped as well as the fork he was holding when he saw Jake. His face was still bruised. He quickly turned his back on Jake and pushed the wheelchair's wheels.

“Wait up!” Jake took the handle of the wheelchair to stop his stepbrother from leaving.

“So, you’ll be living here,” Sebastian said without looking at him. “I guess father will now throw me away. You’re his new champ, and I heard that you’ll be announced as the new CEO.”

Jake pulled Sebastian back in front of his steak.

“No. He will not abandon you if you work for me.” That made Sebastian's eyes widened and his breathing became unstable. “He may not have told you yet, but I told him that I want you to work for me,” Jake continued.

Sebastian smirked then grabbed the knife on the table. “Are you crazy? What? Is this for revenge? I’d rather die than to serve a stupid and weak person like you.”

He brought his face close to his brother’s ear. “Alright. But if you refuse, you’ll lose everything. As in everything. The moment you don’t show up in the office by tomorrow, your life is over.”

His stepbrother’s nose flared and his hands started shaking. Jake sniggered then he sat beside his stepbrother.

“You’re smart and strong. I am sure of that. I know that you know what’s the best for you,” he continued.

“You’re insane! I can betray you anytime. Aren’t you afraid of that?”

“No,” Jake replied right away. Then he smiled and looked up at the chandelier above them. “You won’t betray me. Believe me. So… I guess I’ll get your answer tomorrow if you come into the office.” Then he stood up. “Enjoy your dinner.”

Sebastian screamed and banged the table so violently that everything on it leaped and fell on the floor. But Jake didn’t look back; he just walked away with a sneer on his face.

He was about to get out of the dining area when one of the maids approached him.

“Young Master Jake, you have a visitor,” the maid with neatly tied black hair said.

Jake squinted his eyes and tilted his head. He hadn’t settled there yet so who would visit him?

“She is in the visitor’s lounge. Her name is Mabelle Lee,” the maid continued. “She said she is a journalist.”

“Mabelle Lee. A journalist,” Jake responded while scratching the back of his head.

“Should I ask her to leave?”

“No,” Jake replied with a smile. “Where is the visitor’s lounge?”

The name rang familiar to him, he just couldn’t remember where he heard that name. So, after the maid instructed him the way to the visitor’s lounge, he went there right away. And there he noticed a short lady with mid-back straight black hair, gorgeous eyes that were almond-shaped, and fair skin.

The woman noticed him entering the lounge. She quickly stood up and straightened her black jacket.

“Mabelle Lee,” Jake called. “Do I know you?”

“I don’t think so,” the woman replied.

Jake exhaled slowly as he scanned the woman from head to toe. He was sure he met her somewhere and even her voice seemed familiar.

“So what do you need from me?” he asked.

The woman rummaged inside her shoulder bag before pulling out five photographs. She placed them on the table in front of her and turned to face Jake.

Jake took a closer look at the pictures and his eyes widened as he realized what they were about.

“Where did you get these photos?” he asked as he stared intently at the woman.

“I took them when you fought those goons at the cargo terminal. I saw everything. You’re not ordinary,” Mabelle replied.

“Then what do you need?” Jake raised his hand and was ready to touch Mabelle's head when she took a swift step back.

“You’re going to erase my memory, aren’t you? Sorry. That won’t work.”

He frowned and lowered his hand. “Okay, so you need money for this?”

“No. I don’t need money. What I need is the truth,” the woman replied while looking at his eyes. “You’re not the only person who can use magic here.”

Jake tilted his head from left to right while locking his eyes at the woman. “What do you mean?”

“I’ve seen a lot of people like you,” the woman answered with a clenched fist. “Abusive men, who use extraordinary powers to trample on others. I wrote several articles about this, but nobody believes me. And now, I have proof that guys like you actually exist.”

“Okay. But you can’t just make this public. I won’t allow it,” Jake said.

“Then help me catch the one who killed my younger brother,” the woman replied with teary eyes.
