Xavier couldn’t react for a moment, staring dazedly at his mother.

‘Is she serious?’ he wondered, but the determined expression on her face quickly dispelled any doubts.

‘She meant every word,’ he concluded and with this, he did not know whether to laugh or cry.

“So… because of your in-laws, my sleep doesn’t matter anymore?” he asked bitterly, half in disbelief and half amused.

In response, however;

“Hmph.” Laura scoffed, grabbing Xavier’s arm and tugging him forward.

“You can catch up on sleep later. It’s far too early to start making a bad impression on your in-laws.”

“This…” Xavier couldn’t decide whether to chuckle or sigh at her determination, but eventually, he sighed in defeat.

“At least let me call the estate management to send over some clothes first,” he pleaded helplessly, and only after hearing this did Laura hesitate.

She stared for a moment before snorting and waving impatiently.

What feels like a stretch today will one day be commonplace. What seems luxurious now will one day feel ordinary, and what feels insufficient will eventually become excessive.”She rose and walked closer to Xavier, her hand resting gently on hi
