Chapter 2

The man immediately hugged Jasmine tightly, and Jasmine returned the hug. It was different when Richard hugged her. The woman looked comfortable.

Richard's gaze rounded staring at the two. He did not accept the man's treatment and tried to break away from their embrace. "What are you doing in front of me?"

Jasmine let go of Richard's hand, holding her wrist forcefully. She looked at Richard who was bothering her. "What are you doing?" Jasmine snapped back at Richard.

The man named Edward smiled as Jasmine snapped at Richard. He felt happy to see Richard being treated as insignificant. That means Jasmine is in a higher position than Richard.

Richard turned his gaze to Jasmine. He gave her a sharp look. "That man hugged you in front of me." Richard tried to calm down. "He shouldn't hug a married woman before her husband."

Edward covered his mouth. He leaned over and laughed at Richard. "Her husband? Is a man like you worthy of being called her husband?" The man spoke provocatively.

Edward looked at him flatly, clearly showing his dislike for the man. "What do you mean?" He stood in front of the man.

"Yeah, just think, you poor thing." He glanced at Richard's appearance from top to bottom. "You can't even make ends meet. Therefore, you are not a man worthy of being Jasmine's husband. You have too many flaws. Jasmine should not marry a man like you." He made fun of Richard with what he knew. "Look, you can't even give Jasmine what she deserves. You are a failure as a husband, and you are a disgrace to men. It is a shame to know such a man exists."

Richard hardened his jaw, the man's words making his hands clench into tight fists. "Don't bother about what kind of life I give her." Richard advanced his steps, his larger body than Edward somewhat intimidating the man. Edward retreated with each step Richard took forward. "I'm sure my circumstances will change until I can make her happy."

Ella's laughter broke out. The woman who had been listening and watching couldn't help but remain silent even though she was also surprised by Edward's sudden arrival. "Changed, you say?" She made Richard glance at him. "How long does Jasmine have to wait for you to change? Waiting for you to suddenly become wealthy, how long would it take you to make that happen? Don't joke around, Richard!" she snapped in a very loud voice.

She was so fed up with Richard not changing at all.

"I will make sure to make her happy as soon as possible." Richard gave an uncertain answer. That made Ella smile mockingly, feeling pathetic.

Even if Richard tried, nothing would change. She knew Richard, but the effort Richard would put in still didn't make a great partner.

Ella snorted, a look of resentment and disgust on her face. "Nonsense!" The woman sneered in front of her. "You've been married to her for two years, and in all that time, you haven't made any positive changes. You just do what you think you can do without thinking of Jasmine, my daughter."

She pointed a finger at Richard. "You said you wanted to make her happy? There is no way you can make it happen, Richard. You and your thoughts are nothing but uncertain talk. It only hurts my heart to expect it from you."

Ella raised her voice. She will make the ears of those who hear her so hurt.

Ella made him the target of her hatred. "You are a useless man, Richard. Living with you only makes Jasmine's future worse. It would be better if she became the Brown family's daughter-in-law." Ella glanced at Edward, who was smiling with satisfaction.

The Brown family is one of the most respected and wealthy families. They own a company engaged in agriculture. The general public quite well knows the figure of Edward Brown himself because of his achievements in his career success. Edward is also getting increasingly more famous as he often gets invitations to be a public speaker, which is often highlighted by various media.

Having that wealth and fame certainly made Edward Brown the ideal target for Ella, who wanted her daughter to choose a rich man as her partner. Because, of course, Edward would provide comfort and the luxury Ella had been longing for, and their social status would also change.

"I am trying to bring happiness to Jasmine," Richard answered the woman's words calmly. He did not want to treat the woman disrespectfully because he considered Ella, his mother-in-law, who needed to be respected. "So be patient."

"Patience? You're asking her to be patient with your poverty, then?" Edward was stunned. He tilted his head to look at Richard. "You should know yourself. If you can't make the best of it, then you should resign immediately, asshole. Instead of asking for leniency from them to wait for you to succeed, do you think anyone wants to live hard and support a partner who doesn't give anything in return? It doesn't make sense." He shook his head.

Unlike what they said, Richard believed he could succeed. He had a chance for the success he wanted to achieve. He just needed time, that's all.

"You'd better shut up," Richard warned him, his voice sounding like he was pressuring his opponent to comply.

Edward smirked. He loved the opportunity he had to play Richard. "You know, Jasmine shouldn't have married a loser like you." Edward turned his gaze to Jasmine. He approached the woman standing next to Richard. "She should be mine." Edward smiled passionately at Jasmine. He then touched Jasmine's chin with his hand.

But Richard swatted the hand away firmly. Edward, whose temper was ignited, became angry. "She will indeed be mine. You know that!" Edward exclaims, heating her up.

Richard was annoyed. He clenched his hand. Swinging that hand up to hit him, Jasmine, who was next to him suddenly blocked him from the front. The woman stood between them to prevent Richard from hitting Edward.

"What do you think you're doing!" Jasmine yelled at him. "Don't you have a brain?"

Richard lowered his gaze to stare at Jasmine. His hand was still raised in the air. He deliberately stopped because if he let go, it would not be Edward  but woudldhit Jasmine.

"Move aside, Jasmine," Richard spoke softly to her.

But Jasmine did not listen to him at all. She was still standing there staring at Richard intently. "I'm not moving out of this place. There is one thing I want to tell you right on my birthday."

Richard exchanged glances with her. He found that Jasmine's figure looked different, obvious from her distinct look.

"I had a relationship with Edward," Jasmine revealed, an affair that Richard never expected.

Richard's eyes widened, the veins in his hands depicted on both hands as the man's hands clenched into fists. His hand raised in the air came down. He looked at her in disbelief. "Jasmine realizes you already have a husband." Richard's tone of voice rose slightly. "What do you mean you have a relationship with him?"

Jasmine looked away from Richard as he sighed, then looked back at the man. "I am sick and tired of living with you." He said so painfully. "Do you know what my friends did when they found out I married a guy like you?" She was quiet for a few moments, remembering that thing she disliked. "They mock me, they call me stupid for not being able to choose a man, and they insult me because of you! And I don't want to suffer with you because of that. I don't deserve that kind of treatment because of you, Richard!"

Richard was stunned to find out. "What did you say, Jasmine?" his voice asked in a tone that never changed when he spoke to her.

Jasmine raised her face, which looked full of determination. "I want to be like them. I want to have a husband that I can rely on. A husband I can be proud of in front of my friends, not a man like you!"

"You heard what she said, right?" Edward smiled sarcastically. "If you can't be a man, don't try to marry a woman."

Ella snorted and shook her head. "I'm even tired just looking at you. I can't imagine my daughter enduring such suffering because of you. What a useless man."

Richard gave Jasmine a hurt look. "You disappoint me, Jasmine."

Jasmine came closer to him. She looked up in a challenging manner. "Go ahead, I don't care. Considering today is my birthday, I want you to do something as a present for me." Jasmine walked over to her bag and took a paper and pen from there. She then gave it to Richard by placing it on his chest. "I want a divorce from you, so sign it immediately."

Richard looked at her for a long time. "Are you sure?" Only that one sentence came out of her mouth throughout her silence.

"Yes, I'm sure," Jasmine answered him firmly, without a hint of hesitation on her face. "I'm sick of living with you. So let's end this relationship."

Richard took over the paper Jasmine gave him. He signed the divorce papers with the pen Jasmine gave him. "You guys are really good together." He praised them. "Your cooperation is also very good."

"If it's over, leave this place immediately." Ella quickly took the signed divorce papers, worried that Richard might change his mind and tear them up.

"Of course," Richard replied briefly and left the house. But his steps were halted by a luxury car that stopped right in front of him, blocking the way.

Richard stared at the dashing-looking black car, and soon, a well-dressed man emerged. Richard was somewhat taken aback as the man looked at him while smiling with a warm face. "Young master, I have been waiting for your return for a long time." The man's respectful greeting made Richard even more astonished.
