Aunt Matilda

Wayne knitted his eyebrows and looked at her, he could tell her any amount he needed and go home to his father so he could pay off his debt, but his instincts kept telling him no.

"I'm sorry, but I can't do that, Amber, I'm not a liar, and I've come a long way to honor my father's wish so I can't go back." Wayne explained with a straight face.

"So you're just here to ruin my life? I can't believe you!" Amber said angrily, and then stomped out of the room in a rage.

Aunt Matilda was sitting on the porch with her husband and daughter Bailey when Bailey said.

"I can't believe Amber's getting married to a homeless man."

"Well, she deserves him," Mr. Nathan said, taking a sip of his orange juice.

"We were looking for a way to remove Amber from the heir list and also from the will, but I guess fate has done it all," Aunt Matilda said mockingly.

"You're right Mother, she belongs to the poor family now, that smelly dirty slave," Bailey said as they all burst out laughing.

"I don't want to see you bring a man like that home, or I'll kill you both!" she said.

"Don't say that honey, you should not compare our daughter to Amber, you know Bailey has always been the best granddaughter in this household and everyone knows it."

"You're right." Aunt Matilda said, then paused for a second as if she had an idea.

"How about we teach them both a lesson, especially our new slave boy, and make this place a living hell for them." Aunt Matilda said with a sly smile as they all nodded in agreement.

Wayne dropped his well-worn duffel bag on the bed, he walked over to the closet and checked to see if there was enough room for his things.

His clothes were not many and they could fit on a couple of hangers, he took his duffel bag off the bed and started taking his clothes out and carefully placing them on the unused hangers.

He was done in no time. He walked out of the closet, he went to the window and looked outside, the Cooper's property was huge, he was still taking in the beauty of the scene when he heard the bedroom door burst open, he sucked in a breath knowing he was about to face another confrontation from someone.

It was Aunt Matilda.

Her eyes swept from his head to his feet. Wayne felt insulted again.

"Hey, I need you to trim the gardens, they're a mess." She demanded with a mocking smile on her face.

Wayne was about to refuse when Amber entered the room.

"What's going on?" she asked no one in particular.

Her face was slightly worried, her shoulders hunched in fear. She wondered why Aunt Matilda was in the bedroom with Wayne.

She looked at Wayne and raised a questioning eyebrow.

"I'm just trying to make your soon to be useless husband useful here, we all heard your grandmother say, and it would be a shame if he was worthless to this household, so I asked him to trim the garden."

"Oh really?" Amber asked.

"You doubt me?" Aunt Matilda asked.

Amber sighed coldly as she turned her eyes to Wayne.

"You heard her, do as she says." Amber ordered.

For a moment, Wayne stood clenching his fist and looking at them both, then he took a deep breath and said.

"Where's the garden?" he muttered, his anger sinking in.

"This way," Aunt Matilda said, grinning at him. Wayne turned to look at Amber for a second before leaving the room.

"Here is the garden, here are the tools you need. Oh, and just so you know, you won't be eating today if you haven't finished your work."

"Honey!" Mr. Nathan called in her direction.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

"Oh, I'm teaching this dirty scumbag how to be useful around here," Aunt Matilda said disrespectfully.

"Oh, that's good," he said, turning to look at Wayne.

"When you're done with the garden, you need to clean the hallway. The cleaners are not really doing a good job, so I need you to mop the whole hallway, oh yeah, after that you should polish my shoes, they are all dusty!" Mr. Nathan said mockingly.

Although Wayne didn't say a word, his blood was boiling with anger, as his fist tightened.
