“These past weeks have been the worst days of my life.“ Wayne said to himself.
The Coopers family had maltreated him so much these past few weeks, turning him into something less than a mere slave, he had gone days without eating, he washed their dishes, did their laundry, cleaned every corner of the enormous mansion, and even washed their underwear. His head came down and his eyes found his reflection in the mirror. Next second, Wayne balled his hand and swung it at the mirror. The first thung he felt was pain, he watched the glass break into big pieces and he watched as the big pieces landed on the floor and shattered into all pieces. He saw the blood dripping from the cuts in his hand, at first he made no attempt to clean it but soon it would form a pool and he wanted to avoid that. He grabbed a napkin and pressed it on his hand. The pain registered and he winced. Suddenly his bedroom door opened and Mr Nathan walked in. His eyes fell on the shattered pile of glass and then he turned to Wayne's angry eyes, he shut the door behind him with a smirk on his cheek. Wayne saw the beige colored coat he was carrying even before Mr Nathan stretched it towards him. “Mr Cooper said you should wear this, at least change out of your rags, and wear something better for once” he said mockingly. “Whatever.“ Wayne said, rolling his eyes. “You ungrateful soul. You want to wear your dirty rags on your wedding day?! You know I can make you do that” he threatened but Wayne didn't even flinch. He didn't even bother if he was to walk down the aisle naked, all he wanted was to get on with what he was here for and fulfil his fathers' wish. “The wedding is about to start, Come with me now!“ Mr Nathan said walking out of the room, and Wayne followed without saying a word. As soon as Wayne walked into the Wedding hall, everywhere was filled with noise. “Just take a look at him, faking a contract to be a member of the Coopers just to have a hand in their wealth.“ “Why did Mr Cooper let this happen?“ “Poor Amber, marrying a homeless man as a husband.“ The words echoed into Wayne's ears but he kept walking, not minding what anybody said or thought. A few minutes later, The door opened and Amber walked in with a frown, she joined him at the altar and then the ceremony began. It all went peacefully, until when Wayne and Amber said. “I do.“ They were now pronounced husband and wife. The large doors flew wide open. There were gasps from the small audience as they watched Drex and his men march into the premises. There were five of them including Drex and all were armed. They pointed their guns at both the audience and the newly wedded couple. A loud noise arose from the aroused guest and every one panicked except Wayne. “You think you can get away with what you did, bastard!“ Drex shouted heading towards Wayne with his gun still aiming at Wayne's head. Amber left Wayne's side and ran to her mother. “Honey what is going on?“ Amber's mother cried turning to her husband Mr Oliver for answers “What do you want now?“ Wayne asked. “Our boss Mr Bruce ordered to see you.“ Drex stated. “Mr Bruce?“ Mrs Emilia asked as she turned to her husband Mr Cooper in shock. “What does Mr. Bruce want with him?” She asked with her eyes wide as saucers, everyone knew who Mr Bruce was. “I have no idea.“ Mr Cooper replied with sweat dripping down his forehead. His face went pale with fear and his hands were shaking at his side. Everyone became afraid as they all stared at Wayne. Wayne knew these men were only here for revenge, but he couldn't afford to spoil the ceremony. He turned his gaze to Amber who was with her mother and said. “I'll be back.“ “What have you done!” Aunt Matilda Yelled, trying to create a scene. But Wayne ignored her, .turning his gaze to Drex and his men “Well take me to this your boss then” Wayne said. “Seems like you're not afraid of death, Mr Wayne, I'll make sure you regret ever laying hands on my men” Drex said furiously. “You can see you invaded my wedding ceremony, and i'm doing you a favour right now, so you either take me to your boss, or leave this premises.” “Let's go!“ Drex ordered his men. They pulled his arm to where they parked their car and they pushed Wayne into one of the black cars. He looked out of the window, he didn't know where these men were taking him and the tension in the car was dark and eerie. But a smirk found its way to Wayne's lips. About an hour later, the car stopped. Wayne looked out of the window, they were in the middle of nowhere. Drex got out first and went to the passenger seat, opening the door and pulling Wayne by his hair out of the car. Drex kicked the back of Wayne's knees forcing it to buckle, Wayne landed on the ground with his knees and immediately he felt the cold metal of the gun on his head. Apart from Drex and four of his gangmen, there was another man wearing a black suit. He was too far away for Wayne to make out his features. He wondered if he was the boss and then Drex confirmed it. “What are the boss' orders?.“ Drex asked one of the men who had gone to discuss with the boss and was now returning. “The boss to find him.“ The gang man replied, "I guess he wants us to make some publishes." “Let's kill him.“ One of the gangman said. “That's not necessary.” Drex said excitedly with a snarl on his face, his eyes were lively and he was ready to watch Wayne suffer, "We can just make him feel pain." Wayne did not have a next move, the first thing he saw was a punch heading in his direction but he used his palm to shield the hit. Wayne's hands were occupied and he was trying to get a good hold of the man trying to beat him up. There was another hit on his head, this one was far too painful to be a fist, Drex had hit him with a gun. Wayne yelled and his hand flew to the place of the hit. He brought his hand to his face and he saw blood, his own blood. With his peripheral vision, he saw a tall man raising his fist to the air, Wayne's reflexes were sharp, he dodged the hit and the man staggered because he lost his balance to the swing of his arm. Wayne stood from his knees and kicked the man in his belly, the man shouted out of pain. One of the men ran towards Wayne with a knife, Wayne held the blade of the knife and turned it around, he pushed the blade of the knife into the man's belly. He spat blood on Wayne's face and slipped to the ground. Quickly a pool of blood gathered where the man laid. Blood dropped from Wayne's cut palm, his right arm was limp and his beige coat was splattered with blood. One man came forward, Wayne quickly turned the former man around, pulled the knife from his belly and he braced himself because the man coming for him was the largest. Wayne caught the man's fist as he tried to throw a punch, he turned the man around and felt for the softness of his throat, he dug the blade of his knife into the man's throat and the man struggled then fell to the ground. First thing Wayne heard was the sound of the gunshot, he looked to see Drex pointing his gun at him, Drex had shot him. The ground unravelled under Wayne's feet and everything he laid eyes on was doubled. Everything swirled and the ground shook again, Wayne lost his balance. “Don't shoot him!“ He heard, but he was already slipping into unconsciousness. The first thing Wayne noticed as he regained consciousness was the steady beeping of the heart monitor. As Wayne's senses slowly returned, he could feel his fingers twitching and then his toes. The scent of antiseptic crept into his nose. He heard two unfamiliar voices murmuring, both men."I think he's awake," one said softly."Thank God, I thought I had lost him," the other replied with relief.Wayne gently began to open his eyes. The room seemed blurry for a few seconds until his vision became clearer.Gradually, Wayne made out the figure of a man in white scrubs and another man who looked muscular for his age."My son, you're awake!" the older man exclaimed as he approached Wayne."Where am I?" Wayne asked, bewildered."You're in my house, Wayne," the man explained."Why am I in a hospital and why are you calling me your son? Who are you?" Wayne questioned. "Wait a minute. I think I've seen this guy before. He is with Drex when they attacked me!""What the hell?!" Wayne yelled as
A few days later, Wayne was finally ready to return to the Coopers family.Drex drove Wayne back to the Cooper's mansion, and a few blocks away, Wayne tapped Drex on the shoulder, startling him.“Sir…Master Wayne, what can i do for you?“ Drex stuttered.“Stop me here.“ Wayne ordered leaning back on the seat and without any hesitation Drex stopped the car.“I'm finally back .“ Wayne said, something under his breath, with a smile on his lips. When Wayne got out of the red Lamborghini, Drex came out and knelt down.“Please, Wayne, forgive me. I didn't mean to kill you. If you don't forgive me, your father will kill me. I didn't mean to hurt you, Wayne. You can hit me. I don't care. I'll do anything to own up to what I did.” Drex pleaded.“You know what? You hit me.” Wayne mumbled something.“What? Never! I would never do that to you, Wayne.” Drex hesitated.“You want me to forgive you? Hit me, hit me really hard to the extent I bleed. It's not a request, Drex. It's an order. Come on, do
It was a Saturday morning, Wayne had gone to the garden, he loved the smell of the flowers and the sounds of the chirping birds, he spent most of his mornings there or when the Cooper's family didn't send him on an errand, the garden had become his favorite and only place in the Cooper's mansion. He heard footsteps and hoped it wasn't Aunt Emilia or her husband, or worse, Aunt Matilda."Wayne!" Amber called out."My grandfather asked to see both of us." She said. Wayne got up from the grass he was lying on."I need you to be at your best for us, because whatever you do affects me, okay?" Amber mumbled."All right, let's go." He said. They both arrived at Mr. Cooper's office, where Mrs. Emilia, Mr. Nathan, Mrs. Matilda, Mr. Oliver and Mrs. Laurette were all sitting, staring at Wayne with hate and anger. And it was then that he knew he was in for another problem."I called you all here because I am going to let Wayne to work for our company!" Mr. Cooper said."What?! No way, you can't l
Tears welled up in Amber's eyes, and she was left speechless. This was something she had worked and pleaded for, and now it was all ruined."What's wrong?" Wayne asked, noticing the sudden change in mood."Nothing, let's just go home," Amber said, wiping away her tears.Wayne had a feeling that something was amiss. Someone in the family must have orchestrated this.Seeing Amber so dejected made him feel bad too.Pulling up to the mansion, Amber got out of the car. She gazed at the grand building, then took a deep breath before going inside. She knew her grandparents would be disappointed in her. She was in big trouble, and her heart continued to race.Entering the living room, she found the whole family seated, as they did during emergencies or important discussions."Look who decided to show up," Mrs Emilia said bluntly.Amber's heart leaped into her throat."You foolish girl! You had the audacity to turn down Mr. Rolland's appointment to go on a date with that lowlife!" Mrs. Emilia
Mr. Leo woke up feeling worried; he had barely slept through the night."What if they find out?" he asked himself over and over again. He dressed for work and walked to the bus stop. He was about to approach a taxi when two muscular, tall men in black suits and black sunglasses approached him."Are you Mr. Leo?" Drex asked."Yes...yes...I am Mr. Leo, but I have done nothing wrong to Mr. Bruce," Mr. Leo stammered."How do you know we are here because we think you have done something wrong, or have you?" Drex asked."No..no please spare my life. I'm clean, everyone in this town knows that if you show up, you've either done wrong to Mr. Bruce, the richest man in power, and most of them don't live to tell the tale, please I don't want to die," Mr. Leo pleaded."Well you're right, but it's not my senior boss you've offended, it's his son, but you're lucky he asked me to spare your life, now go to the car and get in," Drex ordered."Mr. Bruce has a son?" Leo whispered and fell to his knees.
The next morning, the whole family gathered in the living room as usual, including Wayne.Mr. Leo was seated amongst them, sweating profusely with his body trembling as fear raced through him. He was scared because he knew the family wouldn't take what he was about to say lightly. Wayne had left him with only two options: confessing to the Coopers and Mr. Rolland or paying with his life. And Mr. Leo definitely did not want to die."What did you call us here for?" Mr. Cooper asked sternly. Slowly, Mr. Leo turned to Aunt Matilda. She looked terrified and worried. Then he glanced at Wayne who sat there calmly, with a soft smile on his lips. Wayne winked at Mr. Leo, reminding him of the consequences. Mr. Leo's lips became loose."It's me, I lied," he stammered. The whole family looked at each other in confusion."What do you mean by it is you?" Mr. Cooper asked."I was asked to lie to Amber about her meeting with Mr. Rolland. Please forgive me, it was never my intention," Mr. Leo pleaded,
Later that evening, Wayne phoned Mr. Leo to remind him that his job was not yet finished.“Remember, your job isn't done yet. First thing tomorrow morning, we'll meet with Mr. Rolland and Amber must sign the contract. If not, you'll still have to pay,” Wayne said.“Yes, Master Wayne. I'll schedule a meeting with Mr. Rolland first thing tomorrow. I promise, I'll do anything you ask. I don't want to die,” Mr. Leo pleaded.“Good,” Wayne replied before hanging up.The next day, Wayne tried calling Mr. Leo but received no answer.“But he agreed to meet Mr. Rolland today,” Wayne thought to himself. He then decided to call Drex.“I need you to go to Mr. Leo's house. It seems he's forgetting our deal,” Wayne instructed.“Alright, boss,” Drex responded.A few hours later, Drex called Wayne.“Boss, there's bad news,” Drex stated.“What do you mean?” Wayne asked in curiosity.“Mr. Leo is dead. I found him lying on his bed with a gunshot wound to his head,” Drex said. Wayne couldn't utter a word
The next day, Wayne told his men to track down the person Aunt Matilda wanted to kill Mr. Leo."Teach him a lesson and ensure he ends up behind bars," Wayne ordered. Little did Wayne know, Aunt Matilda had bigger plans in store for him. She had no intentions of harming him or Amber. Days and weeks passed without any sign of the assassin."Don't give up until you find him," Wayne instructed his men."Our presentation is in a few hours, and this is the script for your speech. I hope you're not nervous because I am," Amber mumbled, handing Wayne a sheet of paper."We've got this, alright?" Wayne reassured her."Okay," Amber replied with a faint smile. As every employee gathered in the conference hall, including the entire Cooper family, Amber heaved in a deep breath peaking through the backstage, felt overwhelmed."I don't think I can do this," she confessed to Wayne, who was standing behind her."I'm right here with you. Don't worry about anything." Wayne said, and in a split second h
