All through the bail process and up until the point where Chris walked out of the police station, he was in shock. A while ago, he didn’t even have the hope of paying a huge sum of $5000 for his bail. But then a savior swooped in and paid.
It was unbelievable!
Fortunately for him, he had to believe because he had his freedom now. And now, he wanted to get back to his job as quickly as possible and not let his family know that he had been at the police station. He had already lost his girlfriend, he didn’t want to go through the heartache of losing his job and having his father disappointed in him.
A few steps forward, he saw an elderly man standing beside a black car. However, the man was all too familiar to him, “Uncle Steve?”
“Is that you?” He rushed toward the old man quickly. Steven Jackson was his neighbor, an old man who had always helped him and his family in every little way. Seeing him there, Chris thought that the old man had helped him once again.
He held the old man’s hand with a look of gratitude, “Thank you, Uncle. You saved me. I would be rotting in there if you had not come for me.”
“Chris…” The old man only smiled, slowly letting go of his hand making Chris frown. Why was the old man pulling away?
“You don’t have to thank me, Mr. Chris.” The old man bowed, with so much respect causing Chris’s frown to go even deeper.
“Mr?” Chris was confused. “Uncle Steve, what’s wrong? You are acting so weird.”
On the other hand, Steve was not fazed by Chris’s question, he only turned to open the car door, “Get in.”
Chris was beyond shocked at this moment, “You own this car?” He quickly ran around the car and he could attest to the fact that the car was an expensive one, luxurious, and one only those wealthy masters would drive.
He could never believe that the old man who lived in a poor neighborhood could own such a car. How did the old man even afford $5000 easily for his bail?
“Uncle Steve, are you into gambling?” Chris blurted out before even thinking. He covered his mouth quickly and shot Steve an apologetic look.
However, once again, Steve smiled but this time, he chuckled heartily, looking at Chris with a doting expression. “You are going to find out soon enough whether I am into gambling or not.”
“Get in.” He pointed at the car, directing Chris to get in.
Chris stood there for a few minutes but then he knew the old man wouldn’t be able to harm him. As a good citizen of the country, he was determined to find out whether there was an illegal scheme going on and he might be able to report it as he should.
“You better not hide anything from me, Uncle,” Chris warned sternly as the old man got into the car. Soon, the car started and the drive lasted for twenty minutes before they drove through a large open gate. The car then stopped before a large manor that had statues, trees, and even a fountain occupying the front yard. It gave an antique vibe yet modern.
The whole place screamed money and Chris knew he could never be welcomed in a place like that.
“Why have you brought me here? Do you want me to be embarrassed?” Chris was cautious as the old man opened the door and he got out. But the scene that greeted him as he looked straight at the entrance of the manor shocked him.
There were two rows of neatly dressed people lined before the entrance and he was sure there were more than twenty. How could a place house this many people?!
“Why are they here? Who are they?” He asked.
“Your servants,” Steve answered proudly.
“Welcome, young master Chris!” The servants’ voice boomed throughout the whole manor and Chris froze in shock. His head was reeling from what they had just said.
Was this some sick joke? Him? A young master? He could say that he was young but a master was taking it too far!
“You are playing a prank on me, right, Uncle?” Chris smiled, uneasily, seeking clarification.
“Wait until you get inside.” There was a subtle smirk on Steve’s face that shocked Chris. When did this man get this cunning? Steve led him into the manor and as he walked, the servants spread apart and lined up behind him, following him into the mansion.
He looked around, wondering whether they were trying to kidnap him. He knew that some rich people were engaged in trafficking and they could sell him at a high price. However, he was quickly distracted by the grandeur of the building. It was simply luxurious and opulent.
Soon, the grand door leading inside the manor opened, and Chris's eyes zeroed in on a man sitting on a luxurious chair.
He frowned, “Dad, what are you doing here?”
“What do you think?” Chris’s dad, Jones Westminster smirked, spreading his arms like a king sitting on his throne.Chris had to rub his eyes repeatedly to confirm if he was seeing things or not. His dad was suddenly looking so regal and refined, unlike the poor man who struggled all his life.“Come here, son,” Jones called out to his son, standing up from the chair. Chris could only move slowly, his body stiff from the thoughts in his head. “Why are you here, Dad? Are you playing pretend in someone else’s house?” Chris asked with a displeased tone. He would be mad if his dad was doing this because he wanted a feel of luxury. “You and Uncle Steve are in on this, right?”“Of course not.” Jones chuckled, alongside Steve. They laughed heartily throwing him into a confused fit. He could only wait for them to come clean to him.“You see, Chris.” Jones started to lead his son toward the same chair he stood up from. He made Chris sit on the chair. However, he looked so small compared to the
“This way…” Steve quickly led Chris out and toward a large open garage. The lights in the garage shined brightly and coupled with the flashy colors of the cars in there, he almost got blind.“Woahh…” Chris stood at the entrance, admiring the rows and rows of cars. “Just how much are these?” The car he rode in with Steve was small, compared to what he was seeing now.“Maybe a few dollars.” Steve shrugged like the cost of the cars was nothing. “We have a Porsche collection, Ferrari, BMW, Maybach, Rolls Royce, and a few others you can think of.”Steve was beaming with pride but on the other hand, Chris was in shock. All this was too surreal for him.“And all those belong to me?”“Yes. What car do you want? You can choose any.” Steve stretched his hand forward and Chris stepped forward, touching the cars with a hint of curiosity. However, growing up in a humble background made him think those cars were too flashy and he might damage them unexpectedly. He was bound to attract attention if
“What the fuck are you doing?” Chris glared at the tackily dressed man and swiftly, he took the man’s hand off him, throwing him off to another side. It was so easy for Chris to throw him off like he weighed nothing.“How dare you touch me!” The man was annoyed that he was easily tackled and he went for Chris again, aiming to throw a punch. However, Chris was quick to dodge making the crazy man punch the air.“You are testing my patience.” Chris was growing furious. He was still trying to be civil because he had somewhere to go and he didn’t want to embarrass himself in a public space but this crazy man wasn’t about to let him go.“And what the fuck are you going to do? Huh? Do you know who I am?” The man pointed a finger at Chris with a condescending gaze, “I am Bastien, haven’t you heard of that name around here before?”Chris’s patience was wearing thin, he was past the time when he would let people bully him and now that he had his father’s backing, he was fearless. In the next se
Bastien swallowed a big lump in his throat seeing the menacing look in Chris’s eyes. He took several steps back, and said shakily, “Don’t scare me, little boy.”However, his back hit one of the men in black and he staggered to the side. “Hey! Apologize!” He snarled but then the man didn't even spare him a glance as he walked up to meet Chris. He seemed to be the boss and he bowed before Chris, “Hello, Young Master Chris. I hope we didn't delay for too long.”“Nahh… it’s alright.” Chris waved his hand in dismissal. “What’s your name?”“Mason, young master.” Mason straightened up and then his eyes zeroed in on Bastien who had his mouth gaped in shock. “How do you want us to punish the man who offended the heir of the Westminster family, young master?” “What?” Bastien let out in shock and not only was he shocked, but the car insurance expert was also shocked. “Little kid! Don't tell me you are the heir of the Westminster family. The owner of the biggest consortium in the country?” Th
“What are you saying?” Chris felt a burst of anger and he frowned, displeased. “I am not a beggar and don’t look like one. You are the one who shouldn’t be in this store since you can’t be respectful to other buyers.”The rush from his encounter with Bastien was still registered in his mind and he wouldn't let another person try to insult him again. “You!” Mrs. Wales was shocked that he talked back at her. “You dare to talk back? You dare talk to me about respect?” She shouted, and even pointed her fingers, poking Chris in the head.“Can you see anyone dressed like you in here? Is this someplace where you can walk into just as you please?” Her pokes moved from his head to his chest as she almost dug her sharp nails into his flesh.Even the female attendant, did a double take at Chris to really see if he was dressed as a beggar, and to her, it was kind of true.“Get your hands off me.” Chris took a step back, slapping her wrist away from his sight.“And what if I don’t?” Mrs. Wales st
“Honey, you are here.” Mrs. Wales, ran toward the burly man, looking all coy, different from her arrogant self. She hugged her husband, swooning like an earthworm with her body glued to his. She didn't even care that she was in a public space! However, the husband loved it. It only took a few whispers into his ears and an angry look formed on his face. “Who dares to bully you, my wife?” The husband thundered and before Mrs. Wales could answer, Bella walked forward warily.“Hello, Mr. Gareth, it’s good to see you here.” Bella tried to be respectful to tone down the situation. Gareth took one look at Bella and glared at her arrogantly, “Did you bully my wife? I am sure you know who she is, right?”“Oh, she is your wife—”“Yes, I am!” Mrs. Wales cut her off, looking so proud. “Honey, this ordinary store manager insulted and bullied me. She didn’t even apologize to me and even dared to support that beggar over me. And that poor man over there dares to disrespect me.” She pointed at Chri
Chris wiped his face, tiredly. He had cleaned through the large expanse of a basketball court. However, he heard voices and the door was yanked open. He looked in the direction the voices came from and he frowned. “Excuse me, you can't come in here.” Chris walked toward the owner of the two voices. He recognized them immediately, Ren and Reid, they were the most notorious group in college, alongside their lackey who was standing behind them, Jose. Ren and Reid halted at first, and then Ren spoke up, “Did you hear someone talking? Asking us not to come in?” “Of course, I didn't.” Reid joked. “A poor cleaner like him wouldn't dare say that.” He pointed at Chris, bursting into a peal of mocking laughter. Ren and Reid managed to calm their laughter and they went about the court, ignoring Chris. Their shoes were wet and muddy, leaving dirty footprints.Chris was already having a headache seeing that. He rushed toward them, blocking their path. “I’m sorry, you would have to leave. The
“Are you out of your mind?” Mike yelled, pulling Melissa to himself while he glared at Chris.“I said, get away from her!” Chris rushed forward, wanting to tear them apart again. However, Jose stepped forward and held Chris. Pak! A heavyweight slap landed on Chris’s face, his face swung sideways as his lips tore apart. Chris’s eyes were red from anger and pain, his face was swollen but then he struggled against Jose, while he glared at Melissa and Mike. On the other hand, everyone there was watching the commotion while Reid and Ren were annoyed that Chris had spoiled the whole thing for them. “Bring him to me,” Reid commanded. Immediately, Chris was pushed before Reid. His forehead slammed on the ground as he lay flat on the floor. Reid bent to Chris’s level, raising him up by the shoulder. “I already told you…” He slapped Chris lightly on the face, continuously, and then continued, “You shouldn't ruin this confession. I told you to get lost and now you are here, ruining it.”H
