“You fucker!” Mike pointed at Chris angrily. He held his nose, screaming in pain.

“Kill that bastard!” He ordered Reid and Ren.

Immediately, they all rushed forward tackling him to the ground. Chris’s body was used to clean the muddy floor of the court while they dealt him blows upon blows.

“Let me go! You bastards!” Chris didn’t relent as he struggled against them. He wanted to go free but they overpowered him.

“I will kill you!” Mike threw a punch straight at Chris’s neck and immediately he felt his body convulse.

Blood spurted out of Chris’s mouth as he began to shake uncontrollably.

“Is he dying?” Reid asked, seeing how he was shaking.

“Right! Let’s end him!” They continued the beatings.

At the same time, the sounds of police sirens resounded outside the court.

“Someone called the police!” One of the onlookers notified them. Reid, Ren, and Mike were quick to get their hands off Chris standing aside as three police officers rushed into the court.

“What is going on here?” They raised their guns, wanting to just scare them.

“School violence, I guess.” Another police officer answered as he looked around.

Chris’s body had already stopped convulsing, he was unconscious.

The police officers immediately rounded everyone into a corner and started to question them. One of them went to help Chris up, waking him up with splashing water.

“What happened here?” They started their questioning.

“That guy attacked Mike.”

“Yes! He rushed out of that storehouse and suddenly stopped Mike from confessing to his lover. He disrupted everything here.”

They started to put all the blame on Chris, no one supported him.

However, the police officers looked from Chris to everyone else. “It doesn't seem like that to us.” Chris looked more battered and now they turned their gaze on the said Mike.

“You see, officers.” Mike stepped forward, seeing they were suspicious of him. He then wiped the blood on his nose.”This guy certainly attacked me. My father, Mr. Moyes, would not like someone attacking his son, would he?”

“What?” The police officers were shocked. “You are Mr. Moyes's son? The richest man in the country?”

“Yes.” Mike was puffed with pride. “I guess you know what to do now?”

“Yes! Yes!” The police officers rushed to bow before Mike. “Forgive us for not recognizing you, Mr. Moyes. We will make up for it.”

“Good,” Mike smirked.

“Arrest that bastard!” They immediately arrested Chris who was already awake but weak. Before everyone, he was taken out and the confession moment continued.

“Let me out of here! I didn't do anything wrong!” Chris banged on the cell bars, wanting to get out. It had been hours since they locked him up and though he had been patient, the police officers were not attending to him.

Now, he couldn't wait anymore.

“Let me out!” He continued. He had regained his strength and though he was still in pain, he could at least demand his release.

“Will you shut up your mouth!” One officer marched toward him, banging his baton on the bars.

“Why? I should be out by now.” Chris countered.

“Oh, you want to be out?” The police officer sneered. “Your bail is $5000. Pay up and you will be out of here immediately.”

“What?” Chris was shocked and furious. “Why would you demand that much for a bail? Is this a fraud?”

“Don’t you have the money?” The officer was impatient. “If you don't have the money, then rot in there.”

He was about to leave when Chris stopped him, dragging his collar through the gaps in the cell bars.

“I didn't do anything wrong.” He glared, his eyes red. “Mike also attacked me. Why isn't he here? Huh?”

“You bastard! Let go of me!” The officer cracked Chris’s hand, releasing himself. “You attacked an officer of the law, you will pay for this.”

“Do you know why you are being kept here?” The officer yelled angrily. “It's because you are poor! Mike is Mr. Moyes’ son. And you, you are the son of nobody! Nobody is going to bail you out and I will make sure you rot here.”

“You piece of thrash!” The officer walked off.

Chris was left in his cell, feeling disappointed and angry. Why was the world against him? He was facing all these hurdles and hardships because he was poor! He realized that was why Melissa even denied him.

After all, who would want to identify with a poor man?

As he was lost deep in his thoughts, he heard footsteps and the door to his cell opened.

“What is it now?” Chris looked up and saw that it was another police officer.

“Chris Westminster, you can go now. Someone has paid your bail.”

  • You Have No Power

Gerald had long left the hospital, however, his face had deteriorated and he had also refused treatment from the hospital. He refused to let any doctor touch his face apart from Doctor Blackman. However, no matter how he reached out to the doctor, he never got a reply. Now, he was staying at the secluded house Baron had grudgingly provided for him with an attendant by his side. “What is he saying? Did you tell him I agreed to the surgery he proposed before now?” He asked desperately. “I am sorry,” The attendant apologized with pity in her eyes. “He has warned me to stop contacting him otherwise he is going to involve the police.”“Ohh…” Gerald let out, his finger nicking his flesh as he was slowly immersed in worry. The doctors had said he had a tendency to have a stroke now due to the way his health had deteriorated. But then, he wasn't ready to give up. He was going to find adequate help by all means. “Contact Baron.” He ordered the attendant. At this point, he had no choice b

  • Released

Five days later…“Have you heard?” A police officer rushed to the detective in charge of Chris’s case with a bewildered look.“What is it?” The detective asked, his gaze displeased. He had a lot on his mind, he was trying to connect the Westminster family to the bomblast but there were no leads. He also has not been able to contact Chase about their ongoing deal. “Reid has been found.” The officer said and immediately the detective whipped his head in his direction. “What…what do you mean?” He asked shakily. “Oh, you don’t know?” The officer laughed scornfully. “I thought you were the detective in charge of the case.” Of course, he knew this beforehand but then they all knew how much the detective had been so hyper about the case.“What do you mean by that?” The detective snapped! “It’s my case and I know everything about it.” He lied through his teeth so he wouldn't be seen as a fool. He was the one in charge but how could he not know? “I guess you know then…” The officer chuckle

  • Emptiness

“Family member?” Gerald muttered, his eyes flickering to the empty space in the corner of the ward. He was just like that, empty. His life, empty. On the other hand, the nurse wondered why he was thinking deeply about a family member. Did a billionaire like him not have someone to call his own?“Don’t you have one?” She probed. She was just curiously asking but Gerald felt like she was mocking him.“I do.” He blurted out without thinking. “Can you give me their names or contact?” She asked joyfully, feeling like there was progress. At least, if he had a family, they could help oversee his checkup. “Baron…” He whispered. “My son, Baron Rice.” The feel of those words on his mouth left a bitter feeling. He didn't have a son, he just had people he could use. “Okay, I will contact him. Rest well, for now.” The nurse quickly left. It was easy to get Baron’s contact especially when she contacted the police about Gerald’s case. They were overseeing the bomb blast incident. An hour later,

  • Sweet Smile

Gerald’s frail body was spread on the hospital bed while he stared at the white ceiling in frozen shock. He didn't know how he got there or how long he had been there. He just opened his eyes to see that he was there. He called for Chase, but there was nothing. No one was by his side. The door opened and he whirled his head to the side weakly. He saw a nurse walking in with the sweetest smile on her face and in that moment, his heart shifted a little. No one had ever smiled so sweetly at him before. Not even his parents. All his life, he was surrounded by misery. “Excuse me, good day.” She greeted. “I see you are awake. I would like to do a quick check-up on you. You don’t mind if I touch you, right?”Gerald couldn't speak, so he only nodded. The nurse moved closer, and though he didn't suffer any burns from the blast, she noticed that his face was a bit weird with little bruises here and there. He wasn't like this when he came in with the emergency unit. “Uhm, Mr. Rice, did you

  • We Will Find Reid

It had been two days since Chris had been wallowing in the police cell with the detective in charge of his case passing mocking remarks to him. However, Chris was counting down in his mind, until the time his father would make a move. With the true Westminster power, he should be out in a day. However, it was now stretching to the third day. “Hey, you.” The detective walked to his cell, with a sneer that had been plastered on his face for the last 48hours. He gripped the bars and poked his face between the bars. His mashed-up face between those bars made Chris cringe a bit and he pulled away, due to the stench emanating from him. “Aren't you going to go home? You stink.” He hissed. “Why would I?” The detective smiled, his yellow teeth more visible. “When I personally escort you into jail, then I will leave for home. For now, I just want to watch your misery—”Ring!Ring!!!The detective’s head whirled around when sudden ringing sounds filled everywhere. Different stations were ge

  • Everything Falling Apart

Chase frowned, confusion riddled him, “What do you mean I was fooled?”In that moment, Gerald chuckled, “Like I said, you are a loyal dog who would never change its stripes. Dogs like you…” He licked his lips, taunting Chase even more. “Will always be led around, used, deceived, and dumped.” “Shut the fuck up and tell me the truth! Did you send Greg to kill me or not?” Chase barked, holding onto the old man’s shoulder, “I signed a document. Did you send him to do that too?”Gerald wasn't moved by his barking, he only continued to smile. No answer. He was reeling in Chase’s pain. “Damn it!” Chase cursed and slowly let go of the old man. His feet moved backward as he stepped out of the basement. As soon as the door closed behind him, he stumbled to the ground, struggling to even breathe. Darkness had overshadowed the mansion, the night sky brooding heavily as a storm was about to happen. A storm was happening in Chase’s mind too. All along, he had his suspicions. Chris had easily ag
