The next day after meeting Warden Bo, a 'charming' guy, by the way, Aiden found his way to the royal library with his ears still ringing from the crazy shouting of Warden Bo.
He had gone to the training grounds early that morning, in a bid to meet Warden Bo, as this was the most likely time he would be at the training grounds, and he was right.
The only part he did not expect was for the Warden to tell him to stay and watch till the workers at the training grounds finished their morning shifts. As expected of the palace guards and the army that trained there, some of them loved to behave with some sort of superiority. An example was the incessant ordering of the workers to complete tasks that they could easily do without help or to do things that were way too hard for the workers to do without getting injured. One such example was when a tall lanky soldier, ordered a worker to hold one of the mannequin-like targets and use it to block as he attacked.Doesn't sound too hard, one would think to themself. "It looks like it will be tough work but nothing too serious...' These assumptions would be valid until you factored in the fact that the soldier was an arcana and the mannequin-like target was just bundles of straw tied together by ropes. This became glaringly obvious after the worker was sent flying seconds after the tall lanky soldier started to attack. The soldier was a fire arcana. The result of the few seconds training session was that he had a concussion, both his arms broken, three fractured ribs, and some severe burns. The punishment the soldier got was longer physical training time on the training grounds. This made Aiden feel like he has been assigned to work in a wolf's house. Luckily, he was placed in the third section, a group of trainees; the sixteen-year-olds who had just awakened their elemental seeds. He quickly noticed that there were a few who were quite cocky. He also found the reason for their superiority over the others. There was not much to be said about them except that he could hear the training instructions given to the sixteen-year-olds. This would help him out greatly in learning to improve his abilities, at least when the seal on his elemental seed finally opened up.Warden Bo had instructed that he must be at the training grounds every day during his scheduled shift time. The only difference was that he wouldn't do anything till the three days of rest were up.After the morning shift, he had gone to the dining hall to get his food. He met Mallory, whom he thanked and asked for directions to the royal library. The royal library was a bit farther away than he expected but it was only a ten-minute walk and some questions before he found it.The library had a dome-shaped top and several pillars lined up in front of it. It was white and majestic. It had huge double doors that looked like they were meant to stop a horde of monsters. There were no gold decorations but its walls looked to be made of stones and coated in ivory that seemed aged with marble floors that had lost their shine. This gave it a scholarly feeling that felt too sacred to defile, like some old sage that had been through thousands of years of knowledge gathering.Aiden had begun to feel this aura of sacredness as he walked toward the library with a solemn expression. The library had more people around it than he expected. There was enough for him to be able to blend into the crowd because he suddenly felt his blood starting to boil as if it was excited.Almost immediately, a loud chime rang out from the library. Every person who heard the chime paused on the spot as they all turned toward the library. The chimes continued until there were seven chimes in total, each spaced apart by a few seconds before the doors of the library flew open on their own, wider than anyone would be able to if they did it.The aged ivory walls seemed to return to their early days and the marble floors regained their shine as they shimmered in the light. The people walking to the library all watched this scene with rapt attention like they were witnessing history in the making but Aiden could feel that the library was alive in a way and was completely unordinary. He took a step back and began walking away. He had an inkling that something in his blood had caused the library to react as it had but he was not too sure until he saw the library revert to its previous state as soon as he began walking away. This made him pause for a moment, then as any other sixteen-year-old would do, he walked back toward the library. Sure enough, the shine returned. He did this a few more times before he slinked away when he saw an old man dressed in white arrive with King Robert, The Queen, The Princes and Princesses, and a lot of nobles. The shine faded away this time completely but the chimes sounded 7 more times before it fell silent, leaving the library as it was before the whole debacle.Aiden who was walking away quickly almost felt like crying because it would be near impossible to enter the royal library without the library going gung ho[1] on him. If only there was a way to mask his blood or something like that......
In The Throne Room, later that day;"Do you know why the library kicked everyone out and locked its doors?", King Robert asked an old man who was hunched in a seat that had been prepared for him.He was the Keeper of the library and he was the only one who could still enter the library after it closed its doors and kicked everyone out.The Throne Room had everyone that was anyone important in the kingdom sitting in it. The chime of the bells was a phenomenon that had never happened in the long history of the nation. They all turned to look at the old man but no one dared to look down on him as they could see that The King showed respect to this man.The old man looked frail but his voice had an ancient feeling that seemed to transcend the normal."This library is just a branch of another library. A legendary existence that has existed since the beginning of time and has chronicled every event since the beginning of the world""There is a prophecy in the library that says"--
When the bells chimeThe wheels of fate slow to a stopTo start anewBringing the beginning of the end--"This prophecy was left behind by The Ancient Celestials that had fought with The Primordial World Guardian against The World Eater"
The Throne Room broke into a ruckus as this was new information that they had never heard of.The Primordial World Guardian, The Ancient Celestials, and The World Eater. These were names they had never heard of. Even King Robert looked surprised. The whispering went on for a while until King Robert raised his hand to quell the whispering and murmurs."Old Sage, does this mean that the library will no longer open its doors?", King Robert asked."The library has been connected to the main library called The Chronicle Of Time, one of the two artifacts that belong to The Celestial Worthy Of Space and Time""The library has awakened which means there is knowledge worth more than kingdoms to glimpsed within its walls. Some are enough to turn a normal person into a monarch, but these will only be found by those to which they are fated"The people in The Throne Room had begun to shake with excitement as the old sage spoke."The library awakened because the bloodline of the Primordial World Guardian walks the land. It will open once more when the bloodline inheritor accepts its invitation"This sent the crowd into another wave of whispers and murmurs. There was someone with the bloodline of The Primordial World Guardian alive? "Old Sage, how is this possible? Isn't the library supposed to open for a person with the bloodline of The Celestial Worthy of Space and Time? Why would it be The Primordial World Guardian?", King Robert asked in puzzlement."This is because The Primordial World Guardian is the only one living. The other Celestials gave their lives to defeat The World Eater, leaving The Primordial World Guardian to hold the world together, preventing its collapse"The implication was simple, The Primordial World Guardian was still alive. What was a Celestial? This was a title they had never heard anyone be addressed as, and The Primordial World Guardian was an existence that could hold the world together."Old Sage, how is the bloodline inheritor of The Primordial World Guardian to be found? Since the library here is a branch, could it be that the bloodline inheritor appeared at some other branch?"The one who had asked was the First Prince, Prince Fitzgerald. His eyes were calm to everyone who saw them but in its depths was light that flickered. The old sage took a deep glance at Prince Fitzgerald, long enough that the Prince pulled away his gaze from the old sage."It's the beginning of the end and the savages will give anything to find the inheritor but all will be as fate dictates", the old sage spoke before he turned to King Robert and said, "Your Majesty", with a slight bow at the neck, then he faded away from where he sat."You have all heard things that are part of the history we know, I don't want to hear that this information spreads to those who are not here right now.""Yes, Your Majesty", they all stood and bowed as King Robert walked out of The Throne Room with The Queen, The Princes, and The Princesses following behind him....
In front of a wide, beautifully designed double door, a middle-aged man, an aged old man, and a young man stood. The middle-aged man knocked on the door before he said with a clear voice, "Your Majesty, the Royal Physician, and his disciple are here".There was silence for a moment before the door opened. A servant was the one who opened the door. He said, "His Majesty is waiting in the tea room to the left".This Royal Physician was the same man who had been asked to check on Aiden when he was still unconscious. The young man who was with him was also the same disciple who had been with him when he came to the unconscious Aiden. They followed a servant who lead the way to another door. The servant opened the door and they entered the tea room to see King Robert seated with a cup of tea in his hand.A servant was pouring two cups of tea. King Robert gestured for the two who had bowed in greeting, "Your Majesty", they said. The two sat and picked up the cup of tea that had been poured for them. The servant left the room, leaving the three to their 'little' tea party. After they had finished the tea, the Royal Physician spoke, "Thank you, Your Majesty, for the treat".King Robert nodded before putting his cup down on the small round table around which the three of them sat."I was surprised that you requested a private audience with me. What happened?"His expression was a little solemn now. The old man gestured to the young man beside him. The young man dipped his hand into the small pouch he carried with him. He pulled out a small bottle with some blood in it. The bottle was pretty small, the size of half of a normal person's hand. The bottle was half-filled with blood. The young man gave the bottle to his master who took it from him with great care."Your Majesty, this is blood I took from the boy His Highness, Prince Adrian saved"[1] Gung Ho - (Adj) Extremely enthusiastic and dedicated.
"Your Majesty, this is blood I took from the boy His Highness, Prince Adrian saved"King Robert was surprised by what he heard as his eyebrows twitched."Blood?", he repeated."Yes, Your Majesty"He put the bottle down on the small round table before he started explaining what he meant."Your Majesty, that boy had been corrupted by a highly corrosive form of dark energy. The dark energy was potent enough to kill a normal person in a few days after making them lose their senses and turn rabid""What I found out from my initial checks was that the boy's body was somewhat special. It did not just resist the corrosion, it was actively purifying it""I was intrigued by the prospects of obtaining some of his blood to study but I stopped myself from doing so..."At this point, King Robert nodded but his gaze quickly flicked to the small bottle on the table. It was unnoticeable unless one were to be watching his face carefully."I tried to take it off my mind but this did not work and I ended
["Why won't you acknowledge me?"]The voice was tiny and felt like a child. It felt like a part of his thoughts but he could tell that it wasn't."Who are you?", Aiden immediately asked, speaking in his mind while his mouth responded to the King's questions."This is the royal physician that looked after you when you were still unconscious and his only disciple"King Robert introduced the two in one sentence.Aiden who had just raised his head had to bow again to greet the old man.He could now put a face to the man who had drawn his blood without permission.Drawing his blood to test was not something special but the fact that it had been done sneakily for some reason made things look... wrong."Thank you, sir, for your care""It was not an issue. You're welcome", the old man replied. As soon as Aiden heard the voice, he could confirm his thoughts. This was indeed the same man who had taken his blood. In that case, all this was very clear. The old man had found something strange happ
That day, a prophecy was left in The Chronicle Of Time, a prophecy that dictates the awakening of The World Eater at a later time.It says;---When the bells chimeThe wheels of fate slow to a stopTo start anewBringing the beginning of the end---The prophecy has reappeared now and it signals the awakening of The World Eater”]Aiden had his head pounding from the amount of information he heard. If it hadn't been because this came from a voice in his mind, he would have called whoever told him this one word; 'crazy'."You mentioned that The World Eater had something called evil spawns. Are those the savages trapped behind the boundaries?"[” That is correct and if one comes near you, it will try to kill or capture you"]The voice answered the question and then dropped a bomb.Aiden's thoughts turned chaotic immediately after he heard what the voice said. Why would that happen? He had found it weird that the savages had come straight for him the moment they set eyes on him. As if
"Tarren!!""Yes sir""Explain yourself""I was feeling sick when I got back to my room yesterday and slept past the time for the evening shift""How was yesterday's dinner?""Missed it, sir""Report to your station, you should have learned something from yesterday. Get to work""Got it, sir"That was Warden Bo, a real charmer. He was basically an army officer that required discipline in everything.Aiden found his way to the training grounds quickly. As a worker, he was expected to report to his post early and leave late. As expected, there was almost no one else there except for the other workers in their uniforms. There were six men and three women there. The men were much taller than he was and were talking to each other while laughing loudly when he got there. The women had two teenagers and one young woman who were also talking to each other. He greeted them good morning and found somewhere to sit. This section was filled with obstacles, lined along the walls and racks of weapon
Aiden got to his feet again and almost immediately, he could feel an incoming attack. At that moment, something snapped inside him and he raised his staff to block the blow.He took a look at Princess Diane and saw that her eyes looked like they had whirlpools in them. He knew she was doing something but at that moment, he did not feel anything instead he blocked the blow, and the next three she threw at him.He could feel the pain recede at the moment and he no longer felt like he was being rammed by a semi-truck.Suddenly, he was able to attack after blocking and his attacks got faster and faster until he found an opening and his staff smashed down toward the Princess' shoulder. The attack came too fast for any sort of recovery but Aiden did not feel the satisfaction of a successful hit, all he got was a smack to the face and he lost consciousness almost instantly....[” Hey, snap out of that daze and listen to me"]Aiden mumbled incoherent words as he opened his eyes and blinked t
The person on the horse soon became clear to the eyes. He was wearing an almost similar kind of armor to the group of soldiers on Fraser's side. He seemed to be waving his hand wildly above his head. Then the real culprits came into view. They looked like jackals but were almost three times the size. They were muscular and you could see the dark shade of their skin as well as their shiny and slime-smeared bodies. It glistened slightly in the grey overcast. There were less than ten of them and they were galloping hard after the person on the horse, carrying on their backs individuals that were just as rough looking."Savages?", one of the men said in surprise as he gripped his spear even more tightly. Fraser Tarren had a frown cross his face as he squinted his eyes. The man on the horse was running toward them and it was clear that he was from the patrol camp, so whose message had they received a few moments prior? The group of soldiers there numbered less than thirty and less than
"I mentioned earlier that the Royal Library is one of this nation's greatest treasures"King Robert seemed to have not noticed the murmurings as he continued addressing them all like it was just another section of his speech."Anyone who reports valuable information gained in the library will not only know of it themselves but will also be rewarded depending on the value of the information provided.I can guarantee that those who are rewarded on this basis will be the envy of all who know them. You will be protected by the royal family against anyone who would consider attacking you for your findings, that I promise"Unlike the first instance of crowd reactions, there was a great difference this time. If the murmurs earlier had been a loud cheer, then the reaction now was pin-drop silence. All that was heard and reverberating in the ears of those who were present was the King's promise. Even the nobles turned to King Robert with surprise in their eyes."All hail The King!!!", the hera
Knock! Knock!! Knock!!!"Come in", a voice answered from behind the door.Aiden opened the door and walked in to see a familiar face, one that he did not expect. The woman saw Aiden's face twitch slightly and she said, "you did not expect to see this face here?"Aiden nodded instantly before he managed to get a hold of himself. "I'm sorry, I just thought...""...that I work in the palace or someplace that is not here?"Aiden did not answer but the woman continued speaking instead."You're both right and wrong". Aiden was confused before she explained her statement. "Right, because the face you saw indeed works in the Royal palace. Wrong, because that face belongs to my younger sister"Aiden nodded. He understood it now. This was not the same person he had seen at the training grounds when he was on duty. His brain had skimped on the details when he saw her and only when she explained it did his brain start to fill in all the blanks and he saw the differences. As the older one, the w
The crowd was pulled from the tragedy that the nobles caused, and some people started to point to the group suspended above them, whispering and murmuring various pieces of gossip. This was a topic that excited them all, however, the ones who were most excited for the revelation were the nobles who finally knew the people who beat them to occupy the highest floor of the tower. They did not hide the wicked grins on their faces and Aiden saw these grins on their faces. He also saw that the group were starting to descend from the sky into the midst of the crowd. That was bad and was quickly made worse when he noticed the nobles setting their hounds on the group. He could guess their thoughts. Even if the group was stronger than they were, given the position they occupied, they did not believe it and wanted to know for themselves how powerful they were. This gave Aiden a headache and his mind began to spin quickly, looking for a big enough distraction that would give the group a chance to
None could ask the other for help because each had someone attacking them, however, they were not noble scions for nothing. Despite being overpowered by the golems, they dealt some damage over time.It was not immediately obvious, but they managed to hold their own, and avoid grievous injuries even though there were several close calls. It took them each about an hour to circumvent their respective golems and deal enough damage to break through their chests.Hadrian was the first followed by Oscar shortly after with Tristan clocking in third, a few seconds behind Oscar. He was unhappy with this but he had no time to be unhappy because his face soon changed into a somber look. Oscar who had just tried to pick up the glowing multi-coloured orb was surprised to find the orb roll away from him and float up to meet the orb that came from Tristan’s golem. This also meant that the orb in Hadrian’s hand was the only one that remained.Oscar and Tristan noticed this, but they could do nothin
No one cared who had said that word because they all ran. The sight of the gray tentacles rising like pillars from the depths of the abyss was enough to scare every one of them.At the same moment, there was a rumble that spread across the skies of the city at that moment. Everyone heard it. Aiden, sitting in the restaurant was jolted from his thoughts and joined everyone else as they looked up at the ruin.He witnessed a few of the tentacles of the beast appear on the edge of the ruin as he had seen before they entered the ruin.‘That bridge, huh? They might be lucky enough to escape'.He did not care much if these people beat the ruin and made it to the temple. He had gotten his rewards and he was happy with that.Tristan and his group had immediately dashed off the bridge, but the tentacles came down on the bridge at a lightning-fast speed. This attack ripped the bridge apart, leaving just three people from Tristan’s group unscathed.Tristan’s face was painted with horror like ever
Aiden was dumbfounded. How was this a reward? It simply contradicted itself. The problem it caused was having him be a prime target for the Zaltyr, but it would also save him from them once. Then, is the mark erased once the life-saving opportunity is used?[Yes, everything returns to normal after that]This made him heave a sigh of relief. He tried to look at this from a positive perspective. This meant the mark was not meant to specifically protect him from the Zaltyr, its main purpose was to protect him from every other thing that tried to kill him.Thinking about it this way made it easier to accept the fact that he was going to be in trouble with the Zaltyr sooner or later, albeit only slightly.Elder Zarek watched Aiden go through his thoughts for a few minutes while he thought of the command he had received from The World Seed.Aiden had recovered his thoughts at this point and decided to check on his elemental seed. He was elated to see the changes to his elemental seed. The mu
None of the thirty remaining survivors was stupid and they took things as calmly as they could. There was no visible harm to resting till a problem was identified and this was something they unanimously agreed on.As they expected, there was something that was out of the ordinary and it was found after two hours of waiting. The quiet rumble that came from the depths of the chasm was enough of a wake-up call.Theo of the Arco twins was the one who made the first comment, breaking the silence. None of them believed that crossing the bridge would be easy from the start, however, the realization that some unknown danger lurked beneath was enough to bring them flashbacks of their time in the maze.“There’s something down there as well? Why is this trial so difficult?”“Good thing we were patient…”“Patient? What does that do for us?”“Theo is not completely wrong. Every stage of the trials had been harder than the last”, Oscar took a deep breath.“Indeed… Something that can cause such a ru
“You just had to jinx it?”Raven rolled her eyes in response. The orb glowed and the rubble spread across the hall was drawn to it. One piece after the other, they mashed together and barely a moment later, a statue had formed. This statue looked the same as the ones they fought before, save for a few important differences. One, this new statue was massive, at least three times as tall. Two, the statue now had a weapon – A halberd which it swung around. Three, most importantly, it had lines running all over its body. Looking close enough these lines were runes just like the ones Aiden and the rest had, but these were very close to being complete, easily dwarfing the ones they had.Their expressions turned grave as the glowing eyes of the massive statue locked onto them.It was a golem, and it wasted no time. With a roar that sounded like thunder, it wielded its halberd and charged at them. There was no running from it, because, a sweep of its halberd made the hall feel claustrophobi
Raven who had suggested was the first to move, and the moment she did, everyone else followed her one after the other. They got to the stone coffin amidst their careful creeping without any problems. The unnerving feeling that they felt from the statues kept them on their toes as they expected everything to go wrong at any moment. "Now what", Raven asked. Aiden and Connor stepped here, and as he instructed; "Keep an eye out", the two of them pushed the lid off the stone coffin. They were right to be worried, because the moment the stone coffin opened slightly, light burst out of the opening. They were taken aback by this absurd light show, however, the light was like a tonic, one that breathed life into the surrounding. Life into the several warrior statues that lined the walls. Each of their eyes opened with a snap, glowing a bright orange, followed by cracks that came from the loosening of the joints on the statues. Gadiel was the first to speak regret about the situation, but
With Aiden and Connor leading the way, they stepped onto the rope bridge. The silence that fell on them at that was quite unnerving, but it helped them keep their focus. This meant that their reactions were spot on as they responded immediately to Aiden making any signals. This was the moment that they finally understood the danger that lay in the chasm beneath them. Apart from the scary chasm that looked like a bottomless pit, a sight that already promised them death should they fall into it, there was something else living in the chasm, and the dreadful atmosphere it brought with evidence of its existence sent chills running their spines. The conclusion here was very simple, there was trouble and they needed to be careful.Listening carefully, they heard the silent rumbles gradually fade away, taking with it the tense atmosphere they felt. You would expect Aiden to make a sudden dash to get across as quickly as possible, but he didn't. He was taking no chances, so continued steadily
"Three days?!", Raven started."Oh, don't get worked up, it was more like two and a half days", Princess Eleanor chipped in.Unfortunately, this did not change the reaction Raven had; in fact, her reaction got worse at that moment as she got frantic and almost lost her mind as she looked around."Calm down, Raven. Things are not as bad as you think. We are out of the grassland maze; of course, we had to wait for everyone to de-petrify before we continued…", Deirdre explained."So, what trial do we have now?", Raven asked and immediately got a response."Oh, the long rope bridge, strung across the chasm that has a tentacled beast living in it", Deirdre responded like that piece of information was of no consequence.Raven was silent as she stared off into space for a moment. When she got her mind back, she asked almost immediately… "Are we crossing now that I am awake?"A question to which Princess Eleanor answered in a snarky and sarcastic tone… "Hopefully". Her comment got a few gazes
