Chapter 11: The Golden Mansion

As Jeffrey and Jennifer walked towards the center, they were getting more and more shocked because the surroundings became worse, debris became so common on the pathway that sometimes they had to find other paths. Jeffrey asked Pheona why the previous beasts and humans didn't destroy the rubbles on the pathway and she replied telling him that humans and beasts that could fly would just take the participants to the palace directly, he asked why didn't she do the same and she asked if they would have been able to explore like they did if she did causing Jeffrey to be quiet.

While they were walking, Jeffrey and Jennifer decided to ask Pheona some questions since it'll take some time to reach the center,

" Can you please tell us something like the history of this city, like what happened to this place?" Jeffrey asked while looking at a tilted story building in caution afraid it might fall at any moment.

" To be sincere, I don't know much about this city except for records found in some buildings, this city was created before I was born. This city is called Temporal City which used to be part of the Temporal Kingdom, this city should be where the most important people in the Temporal Kingdom used to live. As you can see there was a battle which occurred here but after I looked into it a lot, I realized that it was one person that caused all this destruction."

" Was the person's cultivation level way higher than even the strongest person here?" Jennifer asked in a shocked tone.

" That's the strangest part, his cultivation level was several stages lower than the king here but he still managed to cause this much damage and destroy this city. You don't know the universal language or I'd have told you the difference in cultivation levels and you'd know how abnormal it is. Even I would not want to fight the person."

Jeffrey and Jennifer were shocked, not because of the difference in cultivation level since they don't understand the difference between cultivation levels, they were shocked because one man was able to fight an entire kingdom and cause this much destruction. As they were looking at the destruction around them, deep in their hearts they were actually worried and hoped that a monster that can cause this much destruction would not appear on Omast or else their families might not survive.

" Do you know the person's name or what they call him?" Jeffrey asked after some minutes of silence.

" In the records I found, he was called Asura."

" Asura" Jeffrey muttered the name softly, he didn't know why but he felt like he should remember the name. What Jeffrey didn't know was that as he muttered the name, a majestic black and palace in the center shook slightly.

After walking for a few more hours, Jeffrey and Jennifer could see the palace from afar and were in awe seeing the majestic palace in the distance.

' It's bigger and more beautiful than even all the leaders' mansions on Omast' Jeffrey thought in awe.

As they were moving once more, Jeffrey saw something different from the corner of his eye to his right. He turned and saw something which somewhat stunned him, Jennifer saw him looking stunned and looked to her right also and also became stunned.

They could see a golden road in the distance and when they saw where the golden road led to, they didn't know what to think anymore, they could see a golden mansion in the distance.

' How much gold was used to do this kind of thing, who was so wasteful as to do this kind of thing.' Jennifer thought in shock while looking at the long golden road and the large golden mansion.

" Pheona, what's up about that place?" Jeffrey asked while looking at the golden road with slight caution, he didn't know why but when he looked at the golden mansion, he felt… hope?. He didn't know how he should call it but he felt something like hope and relief. He was confused and frustrated about all this feelings he's been having lately.

" Oh, that place. From what I know, that place used to be the house of one of the King's bastard son, he was treated as trash after he was born and the princes and princesses bullied him but when it was time to test his talent, he had very superior talent. I don't know much but the records said he was obsessed with gold. It doesn't have anything dangerous and all the important stuff have been taken away."

Jeffrey was surprised because that story sounded like the story a protagonist would have in novels he'd read in his spare time. It was intriguing to him.

Nonetheless, he was not sure whether he should go because according to Pheona, there's nothing of value in the mansion. He was not sure if he a normal person would be able to find something valuable since somebody as strong Pheona said there's nothing.

In fact, he was not sure if he should waste his time checking out that place or he should just go to the palace to find a way out of this world because even the feeling of hope he gets from that place is more like a drizzle of water on a desert, it might not even be worth it to go there.

As he looks at the golden mansion, he decides to go since it's safer according to Pheona compared to the Palace, so he might as well check out the safer mansion than try to find out a way out in a very dangerous place.

" Jennifer, I want to check that place out, can we go?"

" Sure, why not."

When Jeffrey and Jennifer reached in front of the mansion gates, they were not surprised to see the gates made out gold but they were surprised to see even the land they were walking on and the surroundings were made of gold, the garden was made out of gold, it was like they were walking in a land of gold. It was clearly abnormal.

Entering inside the mansion, they were already numb to the fact that everything was also made out of gold, even the chairs, cups, plates, toilets, everything was made out of gold. They didn't even know how much obsession one must have towards gold to do this.

Jeffrey and Jennifer walked towards the top floor and were surprised to see so many bedrooms, they guessed the prince must have had a large harem.

Jeffrey didn't even have the mental capacity to have any thoughts regarding that because he was extremely frustrated, his feeling of danger and fear has been increasing crazily lately and he had not even found anything which brought about the feeling of hope in him.

As Jeffrey was about to give up on this treasure hunt, they both entered a different bedroom, it was at least twice as big as the others but what made it different was that this bedroom was golden while the rest they was not so they guessed this must have been the prince room.

Jeffrey decided to check out the room since who knows maybe he'll be able to find a hidden passage like in one of the walls, floors or bookshelves in the room like in the movies he's watched.

He checked the tables in the room, the bookshelves even the bathroom but he could not find anything. Jennifer had a worried expression while seeing Jeffrey check a couple of strange places in the room, she didn't know what was wrong with him but she knew if Jeffrey wanted to tell her he'd tell her maybe not now but later.

Meanwhile Pheona didn't know what to think about what Jeffrey was doing, she decided to not bother herself anymore, she had already checked the entire building and she has taken everything of value and she had clearly told him.

Jeffrey became frustrated after a few minutes of searching not because he didn't find anything but because his feeling of danger was increasing and it was annoying as fuck, he didn't know how to explain it but the best explanation he could use was when a mosquito considers somebody as it's blood bank and decides to keep on buzzing at the person.

After a few minutes, he just sighed to himself so as to calm down, he sat down on the bed with Jennifer beside him who he knew was definitely worried and hoping for an explanation which he planned on giving eventually.

As he sat on the bed, he started feeling the golden bed and wondered how come the bed feels just like a normal bed, it was not hard like he expected which was surprising.

He looked towards the golden pillows on the bed and wondered if they were also soft like normal pillows, he took one of the golden pillows and was surprised to see it was a comfortable pillow, as he was about to return the pillow he was surprised to see something under the golden pillows beside the one he took.

He removed the pillow and was surprised to see two books underneath the pillow, he could see a golden book and a black book. He was curious as to why two books were underneath the pillow, he looked at the cover of the golden book and saw the title, Book of Paths, he looked at the title of the black book, Book of Rebirth and Regression.
