156 – UNEXPECTED ARREST

Three hours later, Luke was flipping through some papers on his desk when he felt a strange, sudden chill in the atmosphere.

His amulet tingled strangely against his chest and his heartbeat accelerated with panic. His head snapped upwards just in time to watch Ryker appear out of thin air, looking spick and span in his expensive clothes as always.

Shocked, Luke made to rise from his chair but Ryker raised a hand, indicating he should remain where he was.

“Hello, chosen one. We meet again.”

“My name is Luke. I’d prefer it if you called me that.”

Ryker smirked and sank into the Emory visitor’s chair in front of him.

“I’ll call you anything I damn well please, my boy.”

Luke was not surprised.

“I understand that you’re an elder and whatnot but this is my office, my territory… and you will speak to me with respect.”

For the next few seconds, Ryker blinked at him with a stunned expression. The men were locked in a heated stare battle but Luke would rather be castrated before he looked away
