Sierra blinked up at him, her body weak but her heart full. The nurse stepped forward, opening her bag to begin examining her.

Celeste wasted no time as she unzipped her large medical bag and began setting up her equipment with smooth precision. She pulled out a stethoscope, placing it neatly on the nightstand before reaching for a small flashlight, which she tested before setting it beside the stethoscope.

Next, she brought out a digital blood pressure monitor, unrolling the cuff carefully. She placed a pulse oximeter on the bedside table, followed by a small case of syringes and vials—most likely antidotes or treatments for drug intoxication. A thermometer, antiseptic wipes, and a small notepad were next, each placed in an orderly fashion as she prepared to assess Sierra properly.

She also retrieved a portable IV drip stand, adjusting its height before hanging a bag of saline solution on it. As she carefully prepared the tubing, she glanced at Sierra, her expression calm and reassur

"A thief?" Elijah asked, tilting his head slightly, amusement flickering in his eyes."Give me your phone," the man said more firmly, stepping closer. "And your car key. Every dollar you have, too."Elijah chuckled, shaking his head. "First of all, thinking you'll get my phone is a joke. Secondly, asking for my car keys?" He let out another laugh. "Now that’s even funnier."The thief scowled, gripping the knife tighter."You know what? I'm in a hurry." Elijah reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills. "Here," he said, holding them up. "This is $5,000… or more, I think. Have it and just leave.”The thief hesitated, his eyes widening as he snatched the cash. He quickly counted through it, his fingers shaking slightly. His breathing hitched when he realized it was actually $7,100.But greed had already taken hold."Drop your car key and the phone too," he demanded, his knife still pointed at Elijah. His confidence grew as he saw how easily Elijah had ha

Nathaniel’s father frowned, his sharp eyes narrowing. “What do you mean by some guy shut down the proposal?”Nathaniel exhaled through his nose, still feeling the sting of the interaction. “I mean exactly that. I approached Celestine Valencia, but instead of responding to me, she let some man sitting beside her take charge. He questioned everything—picked apart our security protocols, pointed out flaws, and made it seem like working with us was a risk instead of an opportunity. By the time he was done talking, Celestine had lost interest, and I had no way to counter him.”His father’s expression darkened with anger. “And you just let that happen?” He scoffed, shaking his head in disappointment. “You let some nobody dismiss years of our research and development like it was nothing?” He stood up abruptly, his hands tightening into fists at his sides.Nathaniel clenched his jaw. “I—”“I might have been wrong handing Mercer Innovations over to you,” his father interrupted, his tone sharp

Elijah leaned slightly against the wall, his expression calm. “It’s a thank-you tip.”Celeste let out a soft chuckle and shook her head. “Thank you, but I can’t accept it. You’ve already paid for everything. There’s no need to give me anything extra. It’s my duty.”Elijah shook his head. “Have it. Moreover, I love how you work. I’ll take your contact and call you directly next time when there’s an issue.”Celeste hesitated for a moment before finally taking the money. “Alright. Thank you.”She then took his phone from the table, quickly typed in her number, and saved it. Handing it back to him, she said, “Now you can reach me whenever.”Elijah nodded. “Thank you, Celeste. It’s really late—are you sure you can leave safely?”Celeste smiled and waved off his concern. “Oh yes, I brought the hospital car, so that’s not a problem. I’m heading back to the hospital.”Elijah gave a small nod and walked her to the door. He watched as she got into the car and drove off before locking the main g

At 5 AM, Sierra’s eyes slowly blinked open. The room was still dim, the early morning light barely peeking through the curtains. She felt warm, incredibly so—and that was when she realized…Elijah’s arm was still wrapped around her.Her body stiffened slightly as the memory of last night came rushing back. She had slept on his chest. And worse—she had pulled the duvet over both of them herself. Her cheeks flushed at the thought. But at the same time… she had never slept so well in her life.Letting out a soft exhale, she carefully shifted her gaze to Elijah’s face. He was still deeply asleep, his breathing slow and even. There was a peacefulness to him that she hadn’t seen often—his usual sharp, calculating expression was completely gone.I should get up.She had a lot to do today. First, she wanted to at least prepare something nice for Elijah—it was the least she could do to thank him for everything. She also needed to replace her phone and get the other things she had already plann

Elijah's eyes slowly opened, adjusting to the morning light. He blinked a few times, instinctively reaching toward the other side of the bed—only to find it empty. His brows furrowed.Sierra wasn’t there. His gaze shifted, noticing the used drip now removed and placed neatly on the nightstand. That was enough to get him fully awake. He sat up, running a hand through his hair before swinging his legs off the bed.Where did she go?Pushing himself up, he walked out of the room, his bare feet making soft sounds against the floor. As he stepped into the hallway, a faint but distinct aroma drifted toward him.Food? His eyes narrowed slightly as he followed the scent. The closer he got to the kitchen, the stronger it became—warm, rich, and unmistakably homemade. Sierra was cooking.Elijah walked toward the kitchen, the scent of rich, simmering stew filling the air. As he stepped inside, he saw Sierra standing by the stove, her back to him, completely focused on what she was making. His gaze

Sierra’s hand froze mid-stir. Her heart skipped a beat, and she felt her face heat up even more. "W-What?" She turned her head slightly to look at him, eyes wide.Elijah just shrugged, like he hadn’t just thrown her into complete disarray. "I’m just curious," he said, his gaze locked onto hers. "Every time I look at you, you just get prettier."Sierra swallowed hard, gripping the spoon in her hand tighter. "I—uhm—Elijah…" She couldn’t even form a proper response.Elijah chuckled at her reaction, clearly amused. "I should say it more often," he mused, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "You look cute when you're flustered.”Sierra quickly turned her attention back to the pot, trying to focus, but her heart was racing too fast to concentrate.Elijah’s eyes trailed down to the silky nightgown Sierra was wearing. His gaze darkened slightly with curiosity and something else she couldn’t quite place."You took your bath this morning and changed into this?" he asked, his voice low.Si

Sierra nodded. “Yeah, she’s with me now for the time being. You know she rents, so I figured it’s better for her to stay with me now that my parents aren’t around.”Elijah frowned slightly. “Where are your parents?”“They relocated, so I’m the one here alone,” she replied.“Really? Relocated?” He asked, his frown deepening.Sierra nodded. “Yeah, due to business and—”Before she could finish, Elijah’s phone began ringing.Elijah brought out his phone and saw an unknown number flashing on the screen. He hesitated for a second before answering."Hello, who's this?" he asked.A familiar yet unexpected voice came through the line. "Hello, Elijah. How are you? This is Sierra’s mom."Elijah's brows lifted in surprise. His gaze immediately shifted to Sierra, who was focused on the stove, unaware of the conversation. The timing was uncanny—they had just been talking about her parents, and now her mother was calling."Hello, Mom," Elijah quickly responded, adjusting his tone.Mrs. Lane’s voice

Sierra’s head shot up, eyes wide as she turned to look at Elijah, silently wondering if he was about to tell her mom about the Chris situation.Elijah met her gaze, reading the silent plea in her eyes, but instead of mentioning anything, he smirked and leaned against the counter. “Oh, I was talking about her performance last night,” he said smoothly. “She was supposed to rest, but instead, she’s up and cooking.”Sierra let out a breath of relief, but she still gave him a small glare for scaring her like that.Mrs. Lane chuckled. “Ah, I see. That does sound like my Sierra.”Mrs. Lane’s tone softened, turning serious. “Elijah, I need to ask you something.”Elijah straightened. “Go ahead, Mom.”“Please… protect Sierra for me,” she said, her voice laced with emotion. “She’s my only child. I know she’s stubborn and doesn’t always think things through, but she has a good heart. I won’t be there to watch over her, and it scares me. I need to know she’s safe.”Sierra’s breath hitched slightly

He set the tablet down. “So currently I’m supposed to add my own million dollars, right?”Isla nodded respectfully. “Yes, young master.”Elijah leaned back slightly. “Alright. I’m just getting ready to head out—got some meetings and work stuff to handle in town.”Felix hesitated for a moment, then said, “Can I come with you?”Elijah raised an eyebrow slightly. “You want to come along?”“Yeah,” Felix nodded. “I don’t really want to just sit around the house all day. It was already minutes past 11 p.m. He shut his laptop and placed it aside, picking up the remote to turn off the TV.“Might rain till tomorrow or stop around midnight. He tapped it open, and there it was: a clear image of Elijah Westbrook’s license photo attached to the car registration. His eyes narrowed instantly. It was him. No mistake. The same man who had humiliated him that night—dismantled his plans, ruined his pitch in front of everyone, and walked away like it meant nothing.Nathaniel stared at the picture for a few long seconds, his jaw clenched, fingers tightening around his phone. The rain picked up, dripping onto the screen, but he didn’t move.He swiped the rain off his screen, his lips curling ever so slightly. “So it’s really you,” he muttered, a dangerous glint in his eyes. His jaw tightened as thoughts swirled in his mind.“Could he be part of the Valencia family?” he murmured to himself.
