He paused, as if reconsidering, but instead of finishing his sentence, he shook his head and stormed off, leaving the washroom hall in silence.

As Daniel stormed off, Sierra quickly turned to Elijah, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She looked down for a moment, gathering her thoughts, and then said shyly,

"I’m really sorry about that. Daniel…he’s just so proud and arrogant sometimes. He overreacts, and I didn’t mean for this to happen.”

Elijah studied her for a moment, his expression softening. He shook his head and offered her a reassuring smile. "It’s not your fault, Sierra. You don’t have to apologize for someone else’s behavior. Don’t worry about it."

Sierra looked up at him, a hint of relief in her eyes. "Thank you," she said softly, grateful for his understanding.

Elijah shrugged lightly. "People like him are everywhere. You just have to let them be. Are you okay, though?"

She nodded, her smile returning faintly. "I’m fine. Just embarrassed by the whole scene."

Harold suddenly sprang up from his chair.“Hey—hey! What’s going on?” he blurted out, panic creeping into his voice. He looked at Isla, then at Elijah. “Did you really just make a call to get me fired?”Isla met his eyes without a hint of hesitation and nodded once.“Yes.”The word hit him harder than any shout could have.Harold’s face drained completely. His confidence collapsed in an instant, replaced by fear. He shook his head rapidly, stepping out from behind the desk.“No, no, no… let’s not escalate this,” he said hurriedly. “I was only joking earlier. You know how meetings get—just jokes.” His voice cracked. “I have a family. Please.”His hands trembled as he grabbed the file on his desk, flipped it open, and pulled out the approval document. Without reading it again, he slammed the stamp down hard—once, twice—then shoved it forward.“Here,” he said breathlessly. “Done. Permission granted. Everything approved.”The room went quiet.Elijah stepped forward, picked up the stamped

Harold’s face hardened. He scoffed and leaned back in his chair, a sharp laugh leaving his lips.“And who exactly do you think you are,” he said, waving a dismissive hand at Elijah, “to speak to me in that tone?”His eyes narrowed.“You’re just an assistant,” he added coldly. “An assistant sitting in a room he shouldn’t even be in.”He leaned forward now, voice rising.“I’m the head of the Urban Development Planning Authority. I decide what moves forward in this city and what doesn’t. You don’t come into my office and start throwing figures around like you own the country.”Isla opened her mouth slightly.“Sir—”But Harold cut her off with a raised hand.“No,” he snapped. “I want to understand something first.”He turned fully to Elijah, irritation spilling freely now.“You assistants these days have no manners. No respect. You think because you’re holding papers and numbers you can question me?”He chuckled darkly.“Know your place. If you have something to say, you say it through he

Harold picked the plan up properly this time, lifting it closer to his face. His eyes moved slowly over the drawing, taking in the scale of it all. The design was bold yet elegant — a massive multi-level structure with wide open courtyards, glass-fronted sections, green rooftop spaces, and clearly marked zones for retail, entertainment, offices, parking, and leisure. There were access roads carefully planned around the perimeter, underground parking levels, pedestrian walkways, and even emergency routes thoughtfully drawn in. It wasn’t just a mall; it looked like a self-contained city hub, modern and ambitious, something New Ember hadn’t seen before. After a long moment, Harold placed the plan back on the desk and slid it slightly aside. He nodded once. “It’s… nice. Very nice, actually.” There was a pause. Then his tone shifted. “But,” he said, folding his hands together, “projects like this aren’t approved just because they look good on paper.” He leaned forward and began firin

Sierra blinked, slightly surprised by the directness, then smiled and nodded.“Yes, ma’am.”Elijah exhaled subtly, catching on immediately. Isla wasn’t exposing anything—she was helping.“Yes,” Elijah said calmly. “She’s my girlfriend.”Isla smiled as if everything made perfect sense. “I see.”Sierra glanced between them again, stillElijah turned back to Isla and gave a small, respectful nod.“Excuse me for a moment,” he said calmly.Isla returned the nod, already understanding. “Of course.”Elijah then gently took Sierra’s hand and led her a little aside, away from the others and out of earshot. Betty stopped where she was, giving them space, her eyes quietly observing. They came to a quieter spot near the edge of the land.Sierra turned to him immediately, her brows drawn together, confusion clear on her face.“What’s going on here?” she asked in a low voice. “You know Manager Isla personally? What’s happening here, Elijah?”Elijah looked at her for a moment, really looked at her, m

Isla didn’t hesitate. She replied evenly, as if she had expected the question.“For everything secured so far—including government portions and private holdings—it came to just over two hundred and thirty million.”She added, “That covers the frontage, the inner plots, compensation payouts, and initial legal processing. The remaining section will push it slightly higher once today’s meetings are concluded, but it won’t exceed the margin we discussed.”Elijah nodded slowly, unfazed. The number didn’t weigh on him—it only confirmed the scale of what stood before him.“That’s fine,” he said simply.Isla watched his reaction closely, then allowed herself a small nod.“The location alone will double its value once development starts.”Elijah nodded once, then said calmly,“After we secure everything, announce it. Let the city know what we’re about to build. I want to see which of the rich ones will want to tap in once they hear the scale.”Isla smiled faintly, understanding immediately. “T

Zane’s fingers paused on the keyboard. He lifted his gaze slowly. “Yesterday?” he asked, his tone unreadable.“Yes,” Richard confirmed. “He arrived safely and went straight back to his residence.”Zane leaned back against the couch, closing the laptop gently.Richard hesitated. “Do you want us to—”“No,” Zane interrupted calmly, raising a hand.Zane’s faint smile slowly faded as a memory surfaced—one he hadn’t been able to shake since it happened.A few days ago.He could still hear his grandfather’s voice clearly, firm and unyielding.“Zane,” Edmund Halden had said, his sharp eyes fixed on him, “do not look for trouble with Elijah Westbrook.”Back in the present, Zane exhaled slowly, his fingers tightening behind his back. His grandfather rarely interfered directly—and when he did, it was never without reason.“He warned me…” Zane muttered under his breath.Richard noticed the shift in his expression but said nothing.Zane straightened, his composure returning, though his eyes were n
