Chapter 39. The Syndicate

Xavier's eyes locked onto Sofia's, his mind racing with the implications. "The Shadow Broker was just a test?" he repeated.

Sofia's gaze narrowed. "Who's behind this?"

Xavier's jaw clenched. "We need to find out."

Maximus stepped forward. "We've got the Shadow Broker in custody. Let's interrogate him."

Sofia nodded. "I'll analyze his communication records."

Xavier's phone buzzed again – an unknown number. "Xavier, meet me at the old warehouse at midnight," the low voice said.

Xavier's grip on his phone tightened. "Who is this?"

The line went dead.

Sofia's eyes locked onto Xavier's. "What's happening?"

Xavier's jaw clenched. "Another meeting with an unknown contact."

Maximus frowned. "Be careful."

At midnight, Xavier approached the abandoned warehouse, gun drawn. A figure emerged from the shadows.

"You're the one who called?" Xavier asked.

The figure stepped forward, revealing a hooded face. "I'm a former operative of the real enemy."

Xavier's eyes widened. "Who is it?"
