Jason looked intently at her as he searched for an answer to give to her. He had said that in the spur of the moment, and thinking about it, he meant it to some extent. He was thinking of Jasmine at this point and the things that he had told her about Daphne being a mere distraction to their being together. "Do you love me?" Daphne asked him again with a faint voice, and he looked up at her with a small smile, her hand still wrapped in his. "You gave me my first child, so of course, I love you," he answered her. He did not know if he had given her the answer because he wanted her to feel better, but he did not feel so bad saying something like that to her. She smiled so brightly at him, and it went a long way to display her extent of contentment at his answer. "Have you seen our baby?" She asked him again in a faint voice. "Of course, I have seen him. You gave us a beautiful boy, Daphne. You made me a father and I love you so much for it," he said as he leaned in and kissed her on th
Without another word to Jasmine, Jason rushed into the hospital immediately and headed for the infant ward immediately. He stood behind the glass as he watched the doctor and the nurses surrounding the incubator that nurtured his son. He watched them closely with folded arms, but that was not how his mind was. His mind was in a haze, endlessly thinking and hoping that his son would survive. He saw a nurse pick the child up, cradled him in her arms, and took him through another door within the ward and shit it after her. The doctor came out of the ward and walked up to Jason. "Is the child still alive?" Jason asked him, not sure if he wanted to hear the news or not. "He is premature and the chances are slim, but we will do whatever we can. We just discovered a hole in his heart, and we are well aware of the conditions that may have led to it. The prematurity is part. The doctor's voice trailed and all Jason could think about at that time was what he was going to do if he lost the chil
Jason entered the doctor's office and took a seat while he fidgeted. Laura said that she would be waiting outside for him in case he needed anything. He only hoped that it was not going to be a shoulder to cry on. The doctor headed out of the washroom with a towel in his hand and came to sit down. "We managed to preserve your child," the doctor announced to him, and Jason saw himself letting out a sigh of relief. "However, he would have to be dependent on oxygen for the first year of his life, so that his lungs would not be overstressed and cause another complication."Jason did not expect things to be easy considering that the child was premature as well. He would have to deal with whatever was tossed at them. If he wanted to do so, then he would be of much support to Daphne. It was as though a sense of responsibility had suddenly dawned on him and he was suddenly seeing things from a better perspective. "Do we have to keep him in the hospital?" Jason asked as he was concerned about
It had been three weeks since they got home from the hospital, and Jason had not set his eyes on Jasmine or heard from her at all. He had been trying to reach her, but she had only been communicating with him about work through email. Today was not an exception. As he came to spend time with Daphne and Benjamin in the suite, she sent an email again. He had ordered that his private suite should be converted into a nursery, so he and Daphne could stay with the baby as well. The doctor had told them that it was not safe for the baby to be left all alone and they had heeded accordingly. They took turns spending time with the baby as the nurse was not usually around for the entire day. She had taken her time to teach them how to use the nasal catheters for the baby. She had also taught them how the oxygen worked, and the basic ways to feed their child. She had gone the extra mile of teaching them resuscitation measures as well in case the child ever stopped breathing. Daphne and Jason had
Jason did not know if it was because of the gravity of her request, or if it was because of his lack of expectation of the request, but he knew that he was shocked at her request. "What are you saying?" He asked her. "Do you know what it takes to have a baby? "From what I remembered, it was quite easy for you and Daphne," she said to him. "Remember that I was in the house when you both were fucking around the place," she added. He knew that this day would come when she would use his mistakes against him, but he wanted to focus more on the situation at hand. Loving Jasmine was suddenly looking like a debt, as though he intended to repay a huge favor that she had lent him in the past. "Come on Jaz. Benjamin can barely even breathe, so I don't think that it is the right time for me to have another baby, especially from another woman who is not my wife. It is a big deal," he said. "Well, rub it on my face that I am not your wife, even though I wonder why you keep professing feelings that
The gate was finally opened and the presidential entourage of over five Rolls Royce Phantoms drove into the compound. Jason was not surprised at all. It was an official visit and he knew that the president would love to make an appearance. Three uniformed men got out first and scanned the perimeter for any sign of danger. Jason did not think that there was any need, as it was his daughter's matrimonial home that he was visiting. He did not think so much about their protocol, though. When they were done with the scan, they proceeded to open up the second car. The president first stepped out. Miranda was already with her phone in the corner on a live feed to her social media followers. He then held out his hand and a more beautiful older version of Daphne stepped out of the car with a big smile as she held onto his hand. Daphne was indeed a spitting image of her mom, and Jason knew that he would still have a beautiful woman by his side in old age. He almost slapped himself when he foun
Jason headed upstairs to go be with Daphne and Benjamin, but Laura met him on the way. She grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into her home office. "What does the president want?" She asked him in hushed tones, as though they were not in a soundproof room. "He is suspecting me concerning the death of Alex, but I am not sure that he has proof yet. I ensured that there were no loose ends," Jason answered. However, it was obvious that he was shaking with trepidation, and Laura understood where his fears came from. "If he is suspicious of you, then I don't think that he is the only one who suspects you. Maybe Klaus is looking for the best time to strike," Laura said. They were silent for a while, as though she was thinking of what to do. "When are they leaving?" She asked him. "They said that they are spending the night.""They cannot spend the night. You cannot allow it," Laura said. "You expect me to go tell them that now?""You have to come up with an excuse because there are t
When Jason was sure that everything was fine, he finally retreated into the private lounge, where Daphne was with his son and tending to him. He went to the bed where they lay and Daphne gave him a warm smile. Jason stared kindly at the child for a while and he thought of what Maxwell had said to him earlier about his child not surviving. It brought a certain kind of pain to his heart as he looked at how helpless Benjamin was, with all the machines that were attached to him. He went ahead to pick up the child and cradled it in his hand. Benjamin was so small that he could not completely fit into Jason's palms put together. He watched the sleeping child for a while as he struggled to breathe. Jason eventually placed the child against his chest endearingly and kissed the top of his head. Daphne watched him being intentional with her child and it warmed her heart, the luck that came with having Jason to be the father of her child. "From this day going forward, I promise to be not just y
