Rise Of The World's Overlord 202. Someone Tried Killing Him.
“Did you hear that?” Alaric was speaking to Silvan who was still sitting crossed legs, oblivious of whatever was happening. The next explosive sound made some items shake on the table, causing them to crash on the floor. This time around, Alaric didn't need any further prompting before he dashed out of the office, followed suit by Silvan and Sam. The incident happened on the floor just above where Liam's office was located and it seemed everyone had somehow managed to trace the sound. On arrival, the place was congested but somehow, Alaric managed to push himself forward. “What happened?” He asked with a frightened look on his face. “I honestly don't have an idea.” The staff standing next to him replied. On a careful look, Alaric realised the event happened in Liam's office and for a moment, he felt blood seeping from his body. “No way, where is Liam?” He asked no one in particular. This time around, he defiled all orders as he pushed his way towards the entrance of the door.

“Target spotted.” A man in black clothing and mask said, tapping a device on his ear. “Seen.” The receiver replied and with a nod, he ran off before he would be accosted. In fury, Silvan continued stomping towards the elevator. He couldn't believe that Alaric was chickening out all of a sudden. “He hated him and wouldn't mind going to any length to see that he has his position to himself but now he is acting all sainty.” He muttered. Resting against the cold wall in the elevator, he bit his lower lips, “Killing two birds with a stone in the case was feasible. Why didn't I go for it?” He muttered, fist pumping the air. When he got out, a group of staff were gathered in a corner and they were all speaking on the top of their voices. For a moment, Silvan thought he was dreaming. He kept blinking his eyes rapidly, trying to wrap his head around what was unfolding before him. “You're frightened.” Giovanni said, pushing his hands into his pockets as he walked up to him. “Should I use the word scared instead?” He bit his lips, closing the distance that separated them. Now standing next to him, Giovanni placed his hand around his neck, “You shouldn't be scared, it's me… Giovanni Matteo.” “I thought you were dead.” He gulped, blinking his eyes rapidly. “Your mission was a total failure.” Giovanni laughed, hitting his palms together. Scared, Silvan kept darting his eyes around, finding a route of escape but there was none. The presence of the security personnel who had been deployed to his residence gave Silvan the courage to go about his business without fear. Now standing behind the door of his home office, Alaric's call came through again and this time around, he didn't hesitate to pick the call. “What do you want?” He howled. “Liam indeed was a victim of the explosion. Currently, he is in the ICU receiving treatment.” Alaric replied, grasping the edge of the table as he leaned against it. He was relieved when he learnt Liam was indeed alive like he had thought. “You failed again.” He added with a mocking tone. “You keep out of my business. Dropping by the hospital where Liam had been admitted, he decided to pay him a visit before any other thing. Instead of being led to Liam’s ward, he was led to the ward of the janitor which was jam-packed with his family members who were crying. On his return to his office, Alaric tried to resume from where he had stopped but he found himself zoning out occasionally. He doesn't look like someone with mental issues but… I can't believe him even if… ugh!” He tossed his head backwards as it began to hurt. Grabbing a bottle mug, he brewed himself from coffee before returning to his seat. Swirling around, he had his eyes shut, trying to clear his head and reduce the ache that was threatening to split it apart. Still in this position, his door creaked open and he opened an eye.
