Chapter 53Shocked by the question, Naya who had a smile on her face switched to a different expression entirely as she stared back at Rose who was waiting for her response. “Is it that difficult to answer?” Rose's voice made Naya snap her head upwards. Smiling nervously at her, she tilted her head to the side when her phone suddenly began to ring. Taking this as a cue, she took an excuse and then left the ward. Even after speaking with the caller, she didn't return to the ward immediately. She remained in the hallways, pacing to and fro with her hands clutching her gown. At intervals, she would look back at the ward only to return her gaze the next minute with a little sigh. “Seems like she doesn't like me just like her brother.” She muttered absentmindedly, almost bumping into the gurney that held a patient. “I'm sorry.” She apologized with her head bent to the ground but no one paid her any head since they were all in a hurry. Now leaning against the wall, she exhaled deeply,
Chapter 54“Ta-da, I'm back.” Liam said, poking his head through the door, alternating his gaze from one girl to the other. “Hey… I thought you got lost or something.” Rose said, smacking her lips as she leaned into her pillow, a bright smile etched on her face. Before Liam arrived, she wanted to engage Naya in a heartfelt conversation but he came along and then interrupted their discussion. “I had to wait for the drinks to get cold. Seems they just refilled the cooling van.” He said with a shrug, placing what he had got on the table before he went ahead to dispatch them. “Thank you.” Naya said after she received hers and Liam reacted with a nod. “Aren't you going to eat yours now? Nurse Lila would be here any moment from now to perform her routine check.” He said, poking Rose who was examining the bottle. “I wanted to check the percentage of caffeine.” She said, uncorking the bottle. The next minute, she was digging into her snacks with relish since it had been a while since sh
Chapter 55When he got to the doctor's office, after knocking on the door twice, he pushed the door in. “Good morning doc.” He said. Doctor Francis, who seemed busy with the patients' files that were on his table, immediately snapped his head up at his greetings with a bright smile on his lips.“I haven't seen you in forever, what's the issue? School work?” He asked, gesturing for him to take his seat. “Yeah.” Liam nodded, returning his smile. “Thank you for taking care of Rose. She's now in perfect health.”“Not in perfect health yet… she still has a little more to go. In between, I must commend her resilience.” “I want to ask about her discharge, when is it going to be?” “In two weeks.” He replied, pulling a file from his table. “That's fair, by then, she will be perfect.” He said with a broad grin. He was sincerely happy that she was going to get discharged soon, bringing to an end her confinement in bed and in the hospital. Rubbing his hands in a glee, he wanted to start neg
Chapter 56“Oh boy, how did you know we were here?” Jake asked with a chuckle as he walked up to him.“Bring him down.” Liam said through gritted teeth as he stared at his friend, Jake, that was suspended to the ceiling and was hanging upside down like a bat. “Why should I take instructions from you?” Leaning towards him, he grabbed his shoulder, digging his nails into them with a smile playing on his lips. “You think I was going to let go of you after making fun of me at the restaurant? Nah, I don't forgive easily.” He chuckled and the next minute, his hand was above his head in readiness to send them to Liam's face. Before he could make the attempt, Liam ducked, grabbed his hand and then twirled it so hard until he heard a cracking sound. “Are you alright?” Jake asked, only to earn himself a hit from a baseball bat. “What are you guys waiting for? Beat him up.” Jake yelled at his friends who immediately rushed towards Liam. One after the other, they tried to attack him but see
Chapter 57Tired from running around since the day began, Liam walked towards his bed and after allowing his backpack slid over his shoulder onto the ground he fell on the bed with a sigh and his eyes tightly shut only to hear the crashing sound from the living room.Wondering what might have gone wrong, he quickly pulled himself up and with a speed of lightning, he dashed out of the room, poking his head through the door.“Is everything alright?” He asked but he didn't get a response to his question. Pursing his lips, he began to look around in hopes to find clues to answer his questions when his eyes fell on the broken pieces of glass just in front of him.Without a word, he went to get the brush and dustpan and when he was done with this proceeded to go meet with Naya who had her hands wrapped around her body as she stared into space. “What is the issue, you seem to be bothered.” He said with a little voice, giving her a probing stare so she would say what the issue was but her li
Chapter 58Having no answer to his question, Naya was just staring back at him, her lips quivering as she tried to come up with an answer. That morning after he had rushed out, she was enraged and so her mind began to run haywire, cooking up different scenarios for her and when she could bear it anymore, she decided to follow after him. She was curious and wanted to find out what he was really up to. Seeing Liam's angry stare, she couldn't bring herself to give him a response because she feared it was going to skyrocket his anger to the point where he wouldn't be able to control himself anymore. Biting her lips she bent her head, “I'm sorry.” “I didn't ask for your apology. I just want to know your reasons… reasons why you decided to tail me. It's not as if I told a lie, right from the very beginning, I had been always transparent with you… seems like you're still having a hard time trusting me.” He said with a shrug. Still having her head bowed to the ground, Naya let out a sigh
Chapter 59The next day, Naya woke up with a splitting headache which made her grab her head with both hands as she winced in pain. For more than five minutes, she remained in one spot, trying to remember the event of the previous night but her head was blank. Reaching out for her phone on the lamp stand, she turned it on only to see a message from Liam and at once she clicked it. 'Some hangover medicine is on the table.’ — the message read. Without giving it a second thought, she made her way towards the table and shoved the drugs down her throat before emptying the bottle of water down her gullet. Though her splitting headache was abated she was still under the effect of the drug that she had to walk slowly towards her bed and then slump on it with a thud. The next time she woke up, it was already past eight am and once again on her study table was a tray of food. She didn't need anyone to tell her it was all Liam's handiwork and so she immediately reached out for it. Shoving
Chapter 60To this, Naya didn't give a response, instead she clenched her fists tightly with her head buried to the floor. Now laughing, Sandra rose from the arm of the couch and then returned to the couch she had been occupying. Flipping through her invitation cards, she scrunched her brows as if she was looking for something and after what seemed like forever, she snapped her head up and with her gaze narrowed on Naya, she smacked her lips. “I don't have a card to spare with that lowlife.” She mused and at once Sam and Nathan burst into a mocking laughter. They were so happy that Sandra didn't try to take Naya's side even for a second. “He wouldn't even be allowed to cross the gate.” Nathan said. “Exactly! Why should I spare him a card then?” She asked with a shrill voice and once again the trio burst into a mocking laughter.Sitting there, Naya clenched her fists more tightly as she glared at them. She was expecting her grandmother who was sitting in the middle of the living r
