Evan lounged on the couch in his cozy living room, engrossed in his phone. The sound of his wife, Andrea, bustling around in the kitchen filled the air as she prepared their breakfast.
Five years of marriage had brought Evan immense joy, especially with Andrea by his side.
However, there was always a tinge of unease when it came to her parents, particularly her mother. Mrs. Sanchez had a reputation for being demanding, which often left Evan feeling a bit intimidated. She was descending the stairs, clad in a striking pencil skirt and a perfectly tailored jacket that accentuated her figure.
Evan's heart skipped a beat, knowing exactly what was about to unfold.
It had become a routine for Mrs. Sanchez to ask for money, claiming it was for various expenses.
Evan, not wanting to upset his mother-in-law or create any tension within the family, had always obliged.
"Good morning, mom," Evan greeted, rising from the couch.
"I need some money to splurge at the mall today," she stated, her voice laced with expectation. "I have a gathering with my friends tomorrow night, and I want to look presentable."
Evan let out a sigh, fully aware of what was to come. He had prepared a 100 dollars for this very moment, hoping it would be enough to satisfy his mother-in-law's needs.
He handed her the money, but her immediate frown told him it wasn't sufficient.
"That's all?" she questioned, disappointment evident in her voice. "I need at least 300 dollars to purchase a decent outfit."
Evan's heart sank at her words. He knew that no matter what he gave her, his mother-in-law would never be content. Reluctantly, he added some more bills.
"Here, mom," he said, his voice tinged with resignation.
"Great." she replied cheerful, didn't say a thank.
Evan sank deeper into the couch, releasing a heavy sigh. He understood that this was just the beginning.
Mrs. Sanchez would persistently request money, and he would have no choice but to comply in order to maintain harmony within the family.
Just as he began to unwind, Mr. Sanchez approached him. Evan's heart sank even further, fully aware of his father-in-law's intentions.
Mr. Sanchez had a gambling addiction and frequently sought financial assistance from Evan to fuel his habit.
"Hey, son," Mr. Sanchez greeted Evan, giving him a friendly pat on the back, "Can I borrow 200 dollars? I have a guaranteed win today, and I need the money to place my bet,"
Evan let out a resigned sigh, knowing that he would likely never see that money again.
Mr. Sanchez whistled, a smile forming on his face as he pocketed the money.
Evan slouched deeper into the couch, his energy drained and frustration bubbling within him.
His bank account lacked any savings, and his monthly income barely covered the bills, expenses, and the demands of his in-laws and wife.
However, as he glanced at Andrea, who had settled beside him on the couch, he knew that he would go to great lengths for her and her family.
Suddenly, Evan's phone pierced through the tranquility of the morning. He swiftly answered the call, noticing that it was from his friend and coworker, Henry.
"Hey, what's going on?" Evan inquired.
"Sorry to disturb you, but I need you to come to work as soon as possible. Mr. Sanfuente has an important announcement to make," Henry urgently relayed.
Evan's heart sank as he realized that this day was not going to be a pleasant one. He knew that Henry wouldn't call him in unless it was a matter of great significance.
"Alright, I'll be there as soon as I can," Evan responded.
Turning to Andrea, who had just finished setting the table, he explained, "I have to head to work early today. Something important has come up," as he grabbed his suit.
Andrea's face fell with disappointment. "But we were supposed to have breakfast together," she pouted.
Evan sighed, "I'm sorry, my love. I'll make it up to you, I promise," he assured her, planting a quick kiss on her lips before rushing out the door.
As Evan reached the company entrance, he swiftly made his way inside. Walking through the familiar halls, a nagging feeling of unease lingered in the back of his mind.
"Evan. Mr. Sanfuente wants to see you in the office," Henry mentioned, attempting to sound nonchalant but failing.
Upon entering the office, all doubts were dispelled. Mr. Sanfuente sat at his desk, his expression stern. Evan's heart plummeted as the CEO delivered the news he never expected to hear.
“Evan, I regret to inform you that we have to terminate your employment. Today will be your last day here,” Mr. Sanfuente's voice was devoid of any emotion.
For a moment, Evan felt dizzy. He gritted his teeth to calm down: "For what reason, sir?"
Mr. Sanfuente showed a twisted smile: "Someone reported you for sexual harassment."
“What?!”
Due to his outstanding performance, many people have hated Evan. Evan realized that someone must be setting him up.
But Mr. Sanfuente looked Evan up and down, said mockingly: "Look at you, it's not weird at all to sexually harass others."
Evan is not as flattering as other employees, Mr. Sanfuente has long disliked him.
"Where is the evidence?" Evan tried hard to stay cool.
Mr. Sanfuente looked at him as if he were an unreasonable dog. "Of course we have evidence. If you don't get the fuck out of my office, now, I'm calling the security."
Overwhelmed by a mix of anger and hopelessness, Evan's frustration boiled over. In a moment of fury, he grabbed Mr. Sanfuente's collar.
How would he break the news to Andrea and his in-laws?
Mr. Sanfuente forcefully pushed him away, his face twisted with rage. "How dare you touch me with your filthy hands." he spat, his voice dripping with disgust. "I can't wrap my head around this. After all the hard work and dedication I put into your company, is this all I get?!" he exclaimed passionately. "Like you said." Mr. Sanfuente smiled coldly, "It's MY company."The Security guards barged into the office and grabbed hold of his arms. Evan didn't resist anymore and followed their movements out of the office. His mind filled with thoughts of his uncertain future. He had lost his job, had no savings, and a bitter taste lingered in his mouth. It was hard for him to accept that this was how everything had come to an end. As he packed up his belongings, Henry approached his cubicle, his expression mirroring Evan's shock and concern. "I can't believe this, man. I'm so sorry," he said, his voice brimming with genuine empathy. Evan could only nod, unable to find the right words to
As he lay in his hospital bed the next morning, thoughts of worry consumed Evan's mind. Just then, a glimmer of hope entered the room as Leo, Evan's long-time best friend, walked in. Evan's face lit up with surprise and joy. "Leo?"he uttered in disbelief. "Yes it's me, man. Long time no see," Leo responded, smiling. It had been six years since he had seen or spoken to Leo, too preoccupied with his own troubles to reach out. Leo's concern was evident in his voice as he asked, "I heard about your accident. Are you okay?" Evan nodded, unable to find the right words to express his emotions. Leo pulled up a chair and held Evan's hand in his own. Leo's gaze shifted towards the pile of bills resting on the bedside table, instantly grasping the weight of Evan's concerns. "Are these the bills? How much do you owe?" Evan hesitated, but Leo snatched the bill from his hand. Leo's expression fell, but he swiftly regained composure and reached for his wallet. "Allow me to take c
Mrs.Sanchez words caught Andrea off guard, causing her to turn to Evan with a look of surprise. Leo just smiled at asked Evan about his current condition. "How's your feeling, man?" Leo asked him. Despite Mrs.Sanchez words, Evan knew that Leo would never betray him. Their friendship was strong, regardless of their different backgrounds. Evan pushed aside any negative thoughts. "I'm better now." he smiled. "I knew everything would turn out fine."Leo said, smiling. On the other side, Leo has gained immense admiration from Andrea's parents due to his successful life. You can easily tell how wealthy he is by his luxurious suit, Rolex watch, and million-dollar shoes. "Leo, can you believe that you and Evan are best friends?" Mrs.Sanchez sarcastically remarked, highlighting their contrasting backgrounds. Evan didn't bother to reply a word. "Yes, Aunt." Leo playfully quipped. "But we can't deny that you has more to offer than him!" Mrs.Sanchez insisted. "Mom! "Andrea raised her voi
Moments later, she appeared, her eyes meeting his with a hint of guilt before quickly averting her gaze. "Where have you been?" he inquired calmly, his voice betraying none of the turmoil within. Caught off guard by his composure, Andrea‘s embarrassment suddenly became furious. "Somewhere with electric." she answered with an irony tone. Evan stunned. "What are you talking about?""They're right, I can't get anything from this marriage. I don't want to spend the rest of my life taking care of a poor and disabled useless man." Andread answered, "If you can leave me along, I might still accompany you for a while longer. But since you have to ask even when I'm not coming home, well, forget it."Her words hung heavily in the air, leaving Evan momentarily speechless, his body almost going numb with shock. "Are you kidding, Andrea?!" His voice carried a mix of desperation and disbelief. "Do I look like I'm kidding? "Her frustration was palpable, her emotions raw and unfiltered. Refu
It had been years since Evan had last laid eyes on his grandfather, ever since he had chosen to depart from the mansion and embrace a simpler life with his beloved wife, Andrea. Mr.Winston's eyes sparkled with joy as he greeted Evan, "It doesn't matter, you are back now, my boy." Evan's voice peaceful as he confessed, "I was betrayed." “You were never truly happy with Andrea. Your love for her clouded your judgment.” Mr.Winston said. "I thought she would never leave me, even at my worst," He confessed, his words slightly trembling with emotion, "You were right at that time. Perhaps she did love me at one point, but she couldn't resist the temptation of material wealth." "It's good to be back. The mansion is still yours, and our company is waiting for you." His grandfather replied, his voice gentle yet resolute. Evan closed his eyes, overwhelmed by a whirlwind of emotions. Anger, resentment, and a burning desire for revenge consumed him. "Trust me, grandpa." Evan answered
“Thank you for your kindness, sweet heart. You're truly sweet," Andrea expressed with a smile. Evan overheard the conversation as he made his way back towards the cashier area where the two were standing. Leo held Andrea's hand and kissed it. "I would do anything for you, my love. I can buy you anything you want, unlike your poor ex-husband," Leo retorted. Evan felt a pang of annoyance at being underestimated by Leo. He was no longer the poor guy he once was. He had transformed into a different man and wouldn't allow anyone to belittle him again. "I thought you were going to run away. Where's your payment?" the cashier questioned skeptically. "Can't you see someone is calling me?" Evan responded coldly and firmly. Leo and Andrea were taken aback by Evan's voice behind them. Leo turned to face Evan, stunned to see him standing there. "Evan?" Leo asked in disbelief. "Oh! Nice to see you again," Evan smirked. "Especially you, my dear ex-wife," he added, looking at Andrea. Andre
The manager's phone suddenly rang, causing the conversation to be interrupted. He quickly excused himself to answer the call. After the manager left, Andrea convinced Leo to go home, stating that it was pointless to inquire further."It's time to go, sweetheart. Let's not waste any more time on this. Evan is not worth it," Andrea suggested."Absolutely. He will regret crossing us!" Leo declared firmly."He better start praying he never sees me again," he added. As Evan observed them from afar, he smirked. Elias, curious, asked Evan about the woman who was with Leo."Is she your wife, boss? " Elias inquired."Ex-wife," Evan replied curtly.Elias admired Andrea's beauty from afar, exclaiming, "She's so very beautiful""Yeah, a beautiful gold digger," he remarked."I vow that they will regret the day they betrayed me," I declared firmly, seething with anger and bitterness.Suddenly his phone rang, it was his grandfather, Mr. Winston, calling him. Evan promptly answered."Grandpa, what's
Leo and Andrea arrived at Carter Mansion around 8:00 pm, where they were warmly welcomed by Andrea's mother."Good to see you both. have you eaten dinner?" Mrs.Sanchez asked. "Yes, mom. "Andrea responded."Good to know. anyway, I have something to share with you," Mrs. Sanchez said with a smile.Leo glanced at Andrea, expecting her to mention Evan's sudden appearance at the mall to her parents. But Andrea remained silent so he spoke. "I have news for you as well, mom" Leo announced.Mrs. Sanchez immediately became curious and asked Leo, "What is it?""You won't believe this, but we actually saw Evan at the mall," Leo revealed.Mrs. Sanchez was shocked, "What?!"Leo decided to twist the story a bit to boost his ego, "Yes, he's still struggling financially. Can you believe he tried to buy expensive clothes worth a million dollars?""He don't have any money to pay for it so the security had to drag him out,"he chuckled.Andrea couldn't understand why Leo was exaggerating the story, but s
