Chapter 2: The accident

Mr. Sanfuente forcefully pushed him away, his face twisted with rage. "How dare you touch me with your filthy hands." he spat, his voice dripping with disgust.

"I can't wrap my head around this. After all the hard work and dedication I put into your company, is this all I get?!" he exclaimed passionately.

"Like you said." Mr. Sanfuente smiled coldly, "It's MY company."

The Security guards barged into the office and grabbed hold of his arms. Evan didn't resist anymore and followed their movements out of the office.

His mind filled with thoughts of his uncertain future. He had lost his job, had no savings, and a bitter taste lingered in his mouth. It was hard for him to accept that this was how everything had come to an end.

As he packed up his belongings, Henry approached his cubicle, his expression mirroring Evan's shock and concern.

"I can't believe this, man. I'm so sorry," he said, his voice brimming with genuine empathy.

Evan could only nod, unable to find the right words to convey his emotions.

He left the office, fconsumed by a sense of betrayal and injustice. He will find out who framed him.

Sitting in his car, Evan gripped the steering wheel tightly, his hands trembling. The reality of what had just transpired was almost too much to bear.

He paid too much attention on how to feed his wife and his in-laws family with no saving. Engrossed in his own thoughts, he remained oblivious to the approaching Truck.

Out of nowhere, a blaring horn jolted him back to reality. A colossal truck materialized right in front of him, leaving no room for reaction. The collision was unavoidable.

Evan's car crashed into the truck and spun out of control, ultimately crashing into the sturdy trunk of a nearby tree. Darkness swiftly engulfed him.

When Evan finally regained consciousness, he found himself being loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. The pain was excruciating as he attempted to sit up.

"Please, sir, try to remain still. You've been in an accident," a paramedic urged, attempting to soothe him.

Evan's surroundings were a blur as he struggled to comprehend what had transpired. He remembered leaving the company after being fired, but the accident was a blank space in his memory.

"Where am I?" he managed to ask, his voice trembling.

"You're being transported to the hospital, sir. You were involved in a car accident," the paramedic explained gently.

Evan's heart sank even further. The string of misfortune seemed never-ending. Not only had he lost his job, but now he was injured and on his way to the hospital. What else could possibly go wrong?

Next time when Evan slowly opened his eyes, trying to comprehend his surroundings. The room was bright, sterile, and filled with the scent of disinfectant.

As he attempted to move, a sharp pain shot through his body, causing him to groan in agony.

“Thank goodness you're awake,” a familiar voice said, and he turned to see his wife, Andrea, sitting beside him with tears in her eyes.

“You were in an accident, honey. You're in the hospital.”

Evan's heart raced as he struggled to recall what had happened. Suddenly, memories of the car crash flooded back - the impact, the darkness. Overwhelmed and frightened, he closed his eyes.

“How long have I been here?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

“Just a few hours,” Andrea replied, reaching out to hold his hand, “The doctors say you'll be fine.”

In an instant, the door swung open and Mrs. Sanchez, Evan's mother-in-law, stormed into the room. Evan couldn't help but feel a sense of unease whenever she was around.

"What have you done, Evan? How could you be so careless?" Her voice echoed with anger.

Evan's heart sank as he realized that she had no sympathy for him. Andrea quickly stepped in to defend her husband.

"It's not his fault, Mom," she spoke up, standing up for Evan.

"The other driver was drunk and ran a red light."

Mrs. Sanchez scoffed and crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed.

"That's no excuse, Andrea. Evan should have been more cautious. And now look at him, lying in a hospital bed because of his own negligence."

Mrs. Sanchez turned her head to Evan, glared at him, raised her voice. "How can you earn money when you're injured?"

"Mom, please, can you just calm down?!" Andrea pleaded, her forehead creasing with worry.

Evan's fists clenched. He really spoiled this family. When will she understand that Evan is only nice to her because she is Andrea's mother.

Just as Evan's mother-in-law opened her mouth to say something, the door suddenly burst open and a doctor rushed in. His face was grave, adding to the already tense atmosphere in the room.

"Good day, everyone. I'm Dr.Smith," he introduced himself. "I regret to inform you, Evan, that your left leg has sustained severe damage. You will not be able to walk for several months."

Evan's mother-in-law gasped, her hand flying to cover her mouth in shock. "Oh no, that's terrible!" she exclaimed.

Evan was at a loss for words, the news hitting him like a ton of bricks.

"No," he blurted out, his voice trembling with emotion.
